Hard Copy: The Trent Reznor (NIN) Murder Mystery

Nina Paley's "Copying is not theft" - arrangement by Willbe

Asmo says...

The sky started falling back when vocal artists complained that the first phonograph records (which would allow reproduction of their voices) would make concerts a thing of the past. So yeah, are concerts extinct now?

I agree, a person should benefit from their work. I think a person can benefit from their work quite adequately even with copying/piracy. One of the more notable was Trent Reznor/NIN with their Ghosts albums, but plenty of bands have used the net, viral advertising or releasing their content for free to interest people to attend concerts and buy merchandise, to great advantage.

I also tend to think that middlemen have been involved far too long and are far more concerned with preserving their money making ability rather than exploring new models which might cut their profits even if allows the muscisian or artist to reach a wider audience. If muscians and artists can connect to their audience directly by doing the extra work themselves, they can cut out the recording industry entirely and take those profits they would have otherwise paid their agents for their own.

Piracy is here and it's here to stay. Copying has not killed the movie, music, cartoon, PC or console computer game industries and it's not likely to anytime soon. Adapt or die.

I thought the narration was very fitting, both with the music and with the overall visual fantasy-noire. All a matter of personal preference, of course.

Also, just to clarify, those aren't really NIN lyrics for Ruiner. I'm sure Babymech was only joking
>> ^Babymech:

Why is the voice-over just reciting NIN lyrics at us?

Weezer - El Scorcho

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Weezer recut the vid themselves and Romanek took his name off it. Eventually they came around to digging the vid and preferring the original to their own cut. I think Romanek got himself into trouble for being too eclectic. He was famous for doing NiN's 'Closer' vid, so perhaps Weezer expected something more aesthetically similar.

asking permission to create my ELECTRONICA channel (User Poll by enoch)

enoch says...

hey bud.
i figured i would run this by you first considering this your site.
now that i am ruby and can make a channel i dont want to make some redundant channel but one that will actually be used.
i am thinking electronica for a few reasons:
1.we dont have one
2.while it is a sub-genre of music it does give the ability to specify WHAT kind of music.
3.electronica covers a broad range of music and if we consider that synthesizers started in the late 50's and early sixties the channel will have a pretty large potential to actually be used.
examples:
steve miller band-fly like an eagle-electronica/classic rock
flock of seagulls-i ran-electronica/new wave
pink flowd-several different species of furry animals gathered together in a cave grooving with a pic-electronica/acid rock
NIN-wish-electronica/industrial/punk
sasha and digweed-remake of enjoy the silence-electronica/techno/trance

i could really go on forever but any music that uses a synthesizer, samples, loops, digitized media to create music with or without organic instruments would fall under this category.considering that farhad, myself, stingray, eklek and volumptuous all have a pretty large archive of electronica i dont feel the channel would be empty by any stretch.
i noticed you have a vote up for the community to vote on possible channels.that is a good idea.i will be voting yes but i still would like to hear your thoughts on my suggestion.
thanks in advance.
till next time.
namaste.

*edit* ok..blankie changed my mind.i voted no he is spot on.

Shinedown - Sound of Madness

Stormsinger says...

Admittedly, the vocals here aren't close to either group...I can't even come up with anyone he sounds like. But the music isn't far from some of Nickelback's harder songs. And the lyrics (for some reason), just remind me of NIN...I'm not sure why.
