Derren Brown - Mind Control at the Dog Track - Incredible!
so, the jedi mind trick works?
Derren Brown does an Amazing Money Trick
I'm convinced that for some of his most 'amazing' tricks that Brown just uses planted people for the trick. He's openly said that his goal is to always leave people guessing as to how much of what he does is real and how much is just tricks. Something like this is, as the lady said, impossible. If she didn't know how much money she had on her there was no way for him to even hope to read anything from the questions he asked her. Brown is an excellent showman and I still enjoy his pieces, but my interest is admittedly much lower now that I'm pretty much certain he is willing to use planted people for his 'mind' tricks. When there's always the chance he's just working with some actor it's all much less impressive.

Matewan: West Virginia's Coal War
"There ain't but two sides to this world: them that work, and them that don't."
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Incidentally, a lot of political analysts pointed to this era as the reason why West Virginia voted so heavily against Barack Obama; they had a long-term problem with African Americans taking their jobs in the mines. Most West Virginians didn't realize that shunning them from their Union wasn't helping the situation for either party.
It's sad we divide ourselves, but it's sadder still that the world is run by people who're masters at exploiting those divisions. They advance themselves by getting people to blame a convenient scapegoat rather than taking on the real roots of the problem.
The whole conservative movement is one giant Jedi mind-trick on people; since corporations always get away with bribing government into doing things against people's interests, people's interests should be to deprive government of power over corporations.
Never mind that the end result is that the corporations get more power that way; they were always the good guys here. All the bad stuff you think they did was really just some government regulation somewhere that forced them to be evil.
This fairy tale about how unregulated free markets always lead to equality and freedom for all flies in the face of what history has taught us.

Sam Harris - On Calling Out Religion, Death
MaxWilder and Fletch: why the anger? you're all wound up and can't even engage in a simple conversation with someone not as well-versed in the topic as yourselves. Rather than call me names, why not just make the argument and educate me. Does it make you feel good to make subjective, derogatory comments about others, when those comments have no content or basis? I wouldn't be asking questions if I didn't want to learn. You're obviously answering them to make yourself feel smart. I don't think you're smart. I believe I could trick you into painting my fence! The fact that you can't just ignore my comments without ANNOUNCING that you're going to ignore my comments indicates that you would fall easy prey to my Jedi mind trick.
How come BicycleRepairMan and drattus are able to craft rational arguments without calling names or storming out of the room?
Thanks BRM and drattus. The links were very interesting.
questions:
Are there assumptions out there that if all eyes were opened, and an atheist society emerged, it would be intrinsically better? Or are we just getting rid of the flawed, and hoping the alternative is better? Do people think it will be more peaceful? Does a peaceful have anything to do with a better world, if there is not theist morality?

What New Channel? :) (Wtf Talk Post)
aha yes the *brains channel - well jonny - is it kind of you to offer, I think there are a few more out there to try, and I think you should stick with the channel - I know alot of stuff must be long in there - however you should redefine it
From the molecular biology of neurons to theories of consciousness, the Mind and Brain channel is devoted to workings of the brain and its emergent mind. All videos in this channel offer some insight into the workings of brains (organic or synthetic). Videos of trippy optical illusions and Derren Brown mind tricks are generally not acceptable - unless, of course, they contain some explanation of how the brain is being manipulated to produce the demonstrated results.
to include any hypnosis or other trick, optical illusion - that while no prehaps expalaining the effect, requires the brain for the trickery to work.
This should be a fantastic channel! Take out the bit that requires some explaining, and you can have a channel choc full of brainteasers, opticals, manipulation, experiments, hypnosis, and medical related stuff - it'll be great
In the meantime...just as a side note - no to *zombie channel, fun, but dark and horrowshow cover that nicely
The Slingshot Man
Jedi mind tricks.
Michelle Bachmann "That's not what I said It's urban legend"
Colmes: This is what you said...
Bachman: No it wasn't.
Colmes: Err, we have video tape... On my website...
Bachman: No you don't.
Colmes: Yes we do. I can play it if you wish.
Bachman: No you can't. /wiggles fingers and concentrates
Colmes: You know the Jedi mind trick is from a fictonal movie...
Bachman: ... ... No it's not... <.<
I'm not sure what amazes me more, the fact that she tried to do that or the fact that enough morons will believe her so that she never gets taken to task over it beyond the occasional reporter with at least half an ounce of integrity bringing it up.

Absolutely. One of the best ones is dead. I'll go through them all more thoroughly, but you should put this into your playlist to replace the discarded dupe.
Any video in the brain channel should provide some info about how brains or minds work. Basically, the idea is to filter out demonstrations of mental behavior and include explanations of it. I didn't want the channel to be a collection of card tricks, optical illusions, and Derren Brown style mind tricks. Manipulating a sensory system (however wonderfully surprising), doesn't necessarily help describe the system. Of course, certain demonstrations of mental or neurological activity do help define their function. A behavioral change arising after some specific neuropatholgy, for instance, at the very least gives some indication of how that neural system is organized.
Any vid describing animal, or synthetic, minds and brains is welcome, so long as it helps inform the viewer about how such systems work.

Just wondering if there's anything in http://www.videosift.com/playlists/schmawy/Animal-Intelligence that would qualify for your channel?
How to Deal with Cops Attempting to Search Your Vehicle
General rule of thumb. If a cop isn't getting their way, they will raise their voice and behave aggresively towards you. The specific intent being to provoke a reaction from you thus giving them probable cause.
The Jedi mind trick is to remain calm and collected,do not reflect their aggression.
