The BBC have a botnet and I have a question (British Talk Post)
used it to send spam to email accounts that they owned.
How would that be illegal if they owned the accounts? Or did you mean they "owned" a list of valid emails derived from usage on their website?
What could I do to improve matters and what other software could I run to ensure I haven't installed malware?
Buy a Mac. You might also find everything else in your computing life getting easier as well.

The Service Pack 3 version of the touch business card has a nifty malware removal tool.

Whoops, sorry about that...
So used to using noscript in firefox, I don't get the malware warnings from random pages...didn't check it with Javascript on

Thanks mysdrial -- but Google Chrome advises that that site appears to host malware, be advised all.
Bad ads? (Sift Talk Post)
Ah, the irony. After posting this, I got the warning page and the faux malware site again. Looks like a bad banner already. Something from fastclick.net...
Oh god how I hate computers (Blog Entry by swampgirl)
Your PC probably just needs a lil' scrubbing, first of all download, update and then run Spybot S&D, this catches most malicious malware and other crap that manages to attach itself to your system when surfing.
Then get Glary's Utilities and run their all in one check up that will remove various bits of rubbish that may have accumulated. Use the start up tool especially and remove everything you believe shouldn't be there on start up, you can google each application running to remove it from starting up.
Then get a copy of AVG anti virus and do a scan, you never know what you may have picked up. I know you go to all kinds of nasty spots online while drunk
Last of all just do a general defragmentation of your HDD via System Tools. It doesn't help as much as it used to, but it's still good to carry out I believe. Hope this helps.

Break and Metacafe (Sift Talk Post)
Everything works fine for me. I'd say check your OS for spyware/malware perhaps? Or download Firefox 2... that would usually fix everything...
Spyware (Sift Talk Post)
No no no no... all you need is Spybot Search and Destroy, it's freeware and it's the best out there.
Also stop using internet explorer, 90% of all spam bots/spyware/malware is built for IE. So let that sucker out and get Mozilla Firefox.
Spyware (Sift Talk Post)
i highly recommend NoScript as a FF extension. it disables all javascript unless you specifically state that some are allowed. it's a simple toolbar and it's saved me many headaches. the only 'questionable' thing on the 'sift is the google-analytics. i leave that disabled, but enable vimeo, sift, google, etc. and everything works fine. this should prevent a lot of the malware out nowadays, since they come through JS calls more often than not. drive-by downloads...
go into safe mode (tap F8 as the pc boots up) and run ad-aware, windows defender, spybot s&d, or your favorite malware scanner.
although hijackthis! is a great tool, it will devastate the PC if not used correctly. i also recommend not fooling around in the registry unless you know what you're doing.

Spyware (Sift Talk Post)
ds, you probably have malware. I got it just by clicking on a web page. They are veeeery sneaky, those bastards. Check in your "Add/Remove programs" (in Control Panel) to see if you have any unidentifiable programs. These are almost impossible to remove. This is what killed my computer last month.
I highly recommend installing the free "WinPatrol" which allows you easy access to all the information about what's running, starting, etc. on your computer and requires you to approve new "installations."
I had to reformat after my bout because the malware I got was so bad. Adaware and Spybot didn't detect it because it slips in...somehow. Not a computer genius, me.
However, after reformatting my son got it. My research brought me to Spyware Doctor, and the full version cleans most malware programs. However, it is $29.95 USD *cough*(torrent)*cough* Spyware Doctor cleaned it and his computer is all better now.
Do an online virus scan at Housecall. It checks for malware as well as viruses.
Those buggers are a bitch to get rid of. I hope it's simpler than what I described.
Luck!
(If you do Housecall, post any malware it finds.)
