How Marvel Actually Makes Movies Years Before Filming

cloudballoon says...

All the previs in the world can't make bad scripts into good movies.

I enjoyed the early Avengers movies (the Ironmans and the 1st Thor & Capt), then the later ones are all bore-fests.

Why are they dumb? For me MCU movies have the tendency of the second 3 heroes are on screen together the action gets dumb.

Super busy VFX bores me to death, there's rarely any emotional payoff in those scenes. And all these previs does is to make a busy mess of action shots. Meh...

The Predator | Teaser Trailer

jmd says...

Yea...this should have been direct to netflix. I like how its all like "from the director of ironman 3" like that means something. That is probably the most forgettable ironman movie.

How SEALS training tests even Olympians

SDGundamX says...

Yeah, like the SEAL said, athletes don't need to be physically prepared for life and death situations 24-hours a day. I mean, that SEAL training ramps up to "hell week" where they basically train 20-hours a day to simulate an extended combat engagement. No athlete needs that level of mental/physical endurance excluding maybe ironman race participants and even then that kind of training is likely overkill.

ChaosEngine said:

For me, the interesting question is "does this kind of training actually benefit an athlete?"

I'm obviously not an olympian or a coach, but I'm not sure it does.

As a one-off team building exercise, maybe, but on a regular basis, I doubt that it would be more effective than "normal" training. Basically, if this was actually beneficial to an athletes performance, people would be doing it.

1st Trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War”

artician says...

They've been disappointing me with their last few; kind of losing what made superhero films actually work for a while, but as long as they keep up this good character development I'll watch it. Already pulling at my heart strings watching Captain beat up on Ironman. Awe!

XCOM 2 - Gameplay Trailer (E3 2015)

ChaosEngine says...

I never played the original old school X COM, but I played all of Enemy Unknown on Ironman, and I have mixed feelings about a rewind system.

First, I think ironman really adds to the experience of X COM. There's a genuine sense of loss when one of your best troops dies.

I wouldn't mind an option for a rewind system, by with one caveat.
Invisible Inc. is clearly designed with the rewind system in mind (and it's a great game). But I'd still like to play X COM without the rewind without the game penalising me for it, i.e. the games get easier with it rather than harder without it.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining that very well.

Jinx said:

Yeah, I hope this was a pretty heavily scripted encounter to show things off rather than a representation of actual gameplay.

I'd really love to see a mechanic similar to the rewind from Invisible Inc. Purists would probably hate it, but I think turning what is basically save scumming into a limited resource does a lot to smooth out the dice rolls. I think it would be cool to have to agonize over whether you should burn a rewind to try and save that rookie or save it for a more valuable veteran.

XCOM 2 trailer

Asmo jokingly says...

After finishing Classic Ironman with zero deaths/zero country losses, I'm fucking pissed that I go away for a well deserved 5 weeks of vacation and find that someone has dropped the fucking ball and let the aliens win...

Louis CK Probably won't be Invited back to SNL after this

poolcleaner says...

Mild racism: Watching the two black band members react to Louis' jokes. How will they take the jokes?

Mild racism: Watching Age of Ultron and exclaiming, "Everyone has a black superhero friend!"

Captain America <3 Falcon

Ironman <3 War Machine

Thor <3 Heimdall

Black Widow <3 Black Nick Fury

Hulk is black Bruce Banner

Daredevil <3 the Night Nurse

Jessica Jones <3 Luke Cage

Need i get into the black on Asian, black on white, Hyde on Asian action going on in Agents of SHIELD -- you're an inhuman happa hacker that fires earthquakes out of your fingers, welcome to the future.

Yeah, mild racism!! Eventually it's all meaningless because no one cares. Don't need to be getting all Ulysses Klaw on no Wakandan kings or nuthin'.

Awesome Haka Face Off by Schoolkids

ChaosEngine says...

@tomspeed, yes and no. There are certain parts of Maori culture that have definitely been adopted, various Haka, some waiata (songs), pounamu (jade) carvings

But there's still a lot of racism and resentment toward Maori as well.

If you want to see an example, here's a story on one of the largest media sites in NZ about a local Maori tribe who had the audacity to charge a fee to have a commercial event run on their property. Read the comments.

OK, by 'bunch' I can only think of one more off the top of my head, the water jetski ironman flying contraption thing I saw the day before.... still two australian/nz pieces in two days served by an English paper's site is odd

Every 3D Movie is the Same

jmd says...

truer words were never spoken. I just got the evo 3d and really dig the 3d thing, but you know what? I could care less for hollywood 3d movies, the majority of them were made 3d in post production. Instead I like either producing my own or watching other users content on youtube. 3d video becomes more realistic when the content is realistic. You can make ironman as 3d as you want, I still know he is all cgi fakeness.
