^Thank you TRB.^ That movie was absolutely beautiful, visually and otherwise. Full of fantastic acting, pacing, and genuine suspense. I love that people can't seem to tolerate the ending and think that it ruins the movie as a whole. And then blame it on the Coen's writing. I found it troubling but what grade were we all in when the teacher covered the idea that some stories don't have a typical ending? 2nd? 3rd?

Thanks though Deano for at least giving credit to Raising Arizona, one of Nick Cage's finest performances. But it sounds to me like you're just jumping on the, "It's cool to dislike this because so many people do like it" bandwagon. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though. I'm not trying to be a dick.

Couldn't agree more about "The Hudsucker Proxy" DFT. That movie is one of the greatest examples of comedic timing ever. I find when I show it to people, especially actors, that their biggest problem with the whole movie is that their modern, sitcom inundated minds can't pay attention to any sentence longer than ten words and they just zone out. It's really unfortunate. There are so many great performances there.

"But the Coens aren't remaking this film. They're adapting the book. I think there's room for different film versions of books. If there wasn't, we would've never had Peter Jackson's version of the Lord of the Rings as we've be left with Ralph Bakshi's version."

I Lurve the Coens. Great characters, intelligent writing, superb direction, inspired cinematography, great career defining performances. Their only real stinker was Ladykillers. The most underrated Coen production was Hudsucker Proxy.

Die Hard - Only the original. It's a freaking classic, not just a good action movie. So many little details worked out that there's a scene where you can see a whole sub-plot silently occurring based on one of the character's facial expressions. When Gruber puts the coke fiend on the radio to talk to McClane watch all of McClane's facial expressions.
Way of the Gun - This is another movie where entire conversations occur between characters without a word being spoken. The shoot out at the end is incredible and well thought out.
SE7EN - David Fincher at his best.
Aliens - Video games will never stop quoting from this movie (or stealing ideas from it). Can't wait for Avatar (no, not the cartoon).
The Hudsucker Proxy - One of the best comedies no one's seen.
Face / Off - Cheesy over the top in the best possible way. John Woo's best American movie IMO (Hard Boiled being his best period).
Event Horizon - Many don't like this flick, I loved it. The whole scientific concept of hell being this other place of pure chaos that this ship slipped into really drew me in.
I've got a ton more, but I'll stop here. Why do I like these movies? Because they're fun in some form or fashion.
And soon as Hollywood can get back to making movies that aren't based off something from 10-20 years ago I'll get back into being a movie buff.
Oh and PS, I SOOO Want to see Antichrist too. Looks like some really F'ed up horror.

I couldn't agree more about "The Hudsucker Proxy". I can't tell why people don't like this movie. I think it might just be hard to take in all the rat-a-tat, fast paced banter but this really is one of the Coen's gems.

However:
It's funny to me that I couldn't disagree more about "Event Horizon". It's just Hellraiser with a space ship for gad's sake. How is it that people can associate "pure chaos" with just chains and razorblades? It would seem to me that pure chaos would be just that: something that you couldn't possibly understand any part of. You wouldn't even fear it after you got there because it wouldn't make sense. After entering, no part of you would be in order anymore. Thus, you wouldn't really even exist.

It's just like that movie "Sunshine" that I was excited to see. Great initial concept and then all-of-a-sudden there's a freakish looking sunburned guy chasing people around with an electric scalpel. WTF? Isn't the initial concept, i.e.: falling into the sun, entering a reality of pure chaos scary enough without all the fish-hooks and blood spattered walls?

Anyway,
I think I agree with most of the suggestions above. Especially "Conan" or: The story of one young man's struggle against adversity in a harsh, unforgiving world and how he wrestles a giant snake and eventually cuts off James Earl Jones' head with his golden sword-phallus.
