more evidence that the women belong sin the kitchen

Troll. So tired.

Simple-minded moron so tired

Yup, I'm a moron because I don't appreciate the high-art of "women belong sin the kitchen".

Such subtlety! Such subtext!

Sorry, but the "westy the internet retard" act is tired. Maybe you should try "westy the racist birther conspiracist" or "westy the neocon libertarian douche-bag". There's plenty of folks on the sift doing "performance-art" that are more interesting and entertaining than just behaving like a dumb-ass.

Doubling the votes... ha ha ha , that's awesome!
I find it strange that you didn't get more votes.
I think if it was edited up posted in bits, there would be some great posts in it, It was just too long I suppose...

In reply to this comment by kymbos:
Apologies, but I did warn you. It's not high art, but it's disgustingly funny... to me at least. Thanks for doubling my votes!

In reply to this comment by Sagemind:
Dammit, I kept watching, 4:54 is disgusting...

Making the Creepy/Mesmerizing Prius Commercial

So much BS in this , and the idea is not "HIGH ART " i mean its such a fucking obvious idea , infact ibet there are far more efective + cheeper ideas that would sell the product better than this. what a bunch of tossers.

What are you reading now? (Books Talk Post)

Sarzy says...

I'm tempted to lie and say I'm currently reading Ulysses or something along those lines, but as it happens I'm reading John Grisham's the Appeal at the moment. It's not exactly high art, but if you like Grisham it's pretty decent (so far at least).

A song being denied airtime in Britain

spoco2 says...

Hmmm, I'm going along the lines of 'Hey, I know a way to get noticed, make a song that's offensive, pretend to try to get it aired, knowing already they won't let it be and then make a lot of noise about it being banned so people will come and watch/listen to it on the interwebs'

It's trying to do a reverse thing of pretending to make light of something that is really a really emotional and traumatic subject, well it doesn't work, just comes across as downplaying how horrible these things are for someone to experience.
I've read her little ramble over it in her blog and she says it's supposed to be about people who don't let the severity of these experiences get to them, but you HAVE to know how this song will play to a lot of people... and she gets all uppity about people's reactions to it.

Look... all well and good to have this as a track on an album, but to expect it to get national airplay is just stupid, don't try to go on any 'freedom of expression' bullshit. No one is stopping you releasing the track, no one is stopping you performing it live, just radio stations and the like don't want to cop the lashback from listeners who will take offense. And I would say they think 'yeah, it's not that an amazing track anyway, can't be bothered with the fallout'.

For her to get so shitty in her blog about people taking offense to the track and 'not getting it' is the typical insular mindset of 'fuck you all, THIS is what I meant, and if you take it ANY other way you're a dumbshit'. That's called having an entire lack of empathy, so she should grow up a bit... it's not like the song is frigging high art or anything.

YES it has a reasonable point to it, but stop being so indignant that others might take it the wrong way. GEEZE

Videosift not on Wired's list of best video aggregators? (News Talk Post)

Excellent point, as an outsider looking in, it is easy to spot the high-colonic needed, to eliminate or or otherwise dispel, the ever-increasing, douche, dweeb, and dingleberry element, from this playground of nobel beginnings-Some folks simply need to post video content, and shut the fuck up.
Rules??
Rules and decisions by majority vote, should send this place into the toilet if some high art does not return or otherwise take over-Voting. What a Concept. For most monkeys who think that their participation in National Elections for example, holds much more than some pseudo-symbolic satisfaction sensation, well...what can be done with damaged goods but to return them to the manufacturer to be repaired or replaced? Oh, suppose one could be satisfied with the defective product....Welcome to Planet Now.

Dita Von Teese- Striptease Martini Glass Performance

Zonbie says...

>> ^dag:
There is definitely a difference between this and porn - it's hard to pin down but I know it when I see it.
It has to do with exploitation, production for sexual gratification, the will of the person performing and artistic merit.
The Wii girl was closer to porn than this.

Exactly - Pornography is done purely for sexual pleasure, often very graphic and sexually explicit. Erotica on the otherhand, often protrays sexuality and human anatomy often to high art aspirations (such as this performance)
Human anatomy is not porn, and it shouldn't be "indescent"

Go to their my space page http://www.myspace.com/officialinfantsorrow
and listen to the flavor-of-the-week, Bono-esque, save the planet, woe is earth muzak.....and try to understand why high-art and true talent is so hard to find(dead for all practical purposes).......These guys blow.

Björk talks about music snobbery: If you like it, play it

spoco2 says...

i agree with Björk, but i also think there's more to it. it's like what is art? for instance compare a 10 minute monotonous computerized drumbeat to a beautifully crafted dynamic masterpiece of emotion. it's a question of taste, but i think to the human ear some music will have more emotive content, it's still subject to taste though...
But that's not the point, we're not trying to say which has more integrity or worth, what we're saying is, why is a bad thing to like many different things? To suggest that one is only allowed to listen to or enjoy 'high art' pieces is utter crud. Let everyone enjoy what they want.

I wish for more 'good' music in the popular charts, but that doesn't make me attack people for liking what's currently on there. (Unless it's hateful, blatantly sexist or the like, but that's a different kettle of aquatic life)

Chumbawamba - "Tubthumping": Yeah, I get knocked down too...

spoco2 says...

I wasn't going to upvote this, but I am going to do so just because I too find offense in overcast's comments... You don't have any guilty pleasures that are not high art?

I love 'good quality' music as much, if not moreso than the next person (See my soon to die sift as an example), but that doesn't preclude me from being able to enjoy this mindless song for what it is... a catchy song that can be great to sing along with a bunch of mates when you've had a few too many.

Am I sick of it now? Yes... did I enjoy it at the time? Yes... do I look down on anyone who likes it? No.

Do I lament the vast majority of drivel that's on top 100 these days? Yes

Do I preach my musical taste upon those who like said drivel? I try not to, as I know I've enjoyed some pretty abysmal songs in my day, and continue to... there's no accounting for taste. I enjoy some songs in spite of myself...

But what I hate most are musical snobs, who won't even LET themselves enjoy a song, even if they secretly DO like it, just because it's doesn't have the cred it should. All the while making snide remarks about anyone who dares to like any music that can be considered popular.

So, yeah... upvote for me against musical snobs, take your judgmental attitude and put it away with your collection of obscure albums by artists who you will scorn if they ever get popular because it's not cool to like them anymore.

What are you reading? (Books Talk Post)

Thylan says...

Re Heinlein. I'm re reading my dads collection, so have only recently read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Tunnel in the sky. Just finished Glory Road. His views are interesting, but are not as clear cut, just as Farhad shows, as he tends to explore things in his books. It's possibly they are/have reflections of his true feelings, and their apparent evolution/revolution/subtle changes reflects his views at the times of writing of each book. i've noticed how "sex" is often almost completely ignored as a human trait, when exploring some of the stories with an adolescent male protagonist (anything up to 25 ish) and his female characters have a lot of consistent traits (although to be fair, his male chars are often very samey too). I'll get around to stranger in a strange land again in a bit, but The one i finished last night was Glory Road. It tackles the relationship/cultural aspects of sex obliquely, considering how different parallel universes (interconnected) allow utterly diverse and somewhat isolationist evolution of culture. How very different attitudes and norms can be seen as moral, given an appropriate context. Just as TMIAHM allowed the moon penal colony context to justify exploring stable and appropriate social adoptions/human relationships, Glory Road presents the idea that there are as many possibilities as you can come up with.

He also shows a strong hint of a dislike at the sexual culture of America at the time, and an acknowledgment that "enlightenment" as to their unreasonableness is not the same as being free form it's influence. He condemns earth pretty harshly, by declaring it to be the only place that had invented Prostitution, in any form, with all other places considering Sex to be High Art, worthy of much study and respect. The concept of Prostitution, or of sex being a commodity, had so pervaded the culture that it influenced every aspect of relationships, referencing examples of dowry, and men paying for dates, as cultural transaction. However, the lead female is almost fearful from the start, that her promiscuous nature and past will cause the Hero to see her as a slut. At the end, he makes the following point:

"The typical American female is sure that she has genius as a couturiere, as an interior decorator, as a gourmet cook, and, always, as a courtesan. Usually she is wrong on four counts. But dont try to tell her so.
Unless you can catch one not over twelve and segragate her, especially form her mother -- and even that may be too late.
But don't missunderstnad me, it evens out. The American male is convinced that he is a great warrior, a great statesman, and a great lover. Spot checks prove that he is as deluded as she is. Or worse. Historo-culturaly speaking, there is strong evidence that the American male, rather than female, murdered sex in your country."

"What can I do about it?"

"Slip over to France now and then. French women are almost as ignorant but not nearly as conceited and often are teachable."

But he also mentions: ".. is where they tried to outlaw sex entirely. I had seen enough of that dreary graveyard in ..." which i think was referring to the UK, but cant be certain. Almost certainly somewhere in Europe. So his disgust at our attitudes and behavior regarding sex is world wide, and not just at America of the time. (its dated 1963 for ref)

I think he had strong practical, anarcho, very small government, butt out and leave it alone views about organization, with an acknowledgment that a sizable portion of the populace have opinions too ill educated to be considered as needfully relevant to the organizing body/government, whomever.

I'm reading The Star Beast now. thats fun.
