Sheriff Rips NRA - You’re Not Standing Up For Victims

notarobot jokingly says...

Guess the people who called in should have told the cops they thought the kid was growing weed.

Better to ban plants than guns, right?

bobknight33 said:

The kid was a nut.... Not a gun issue....

The system failed.
39 calls to local police.
Few calls to FBI..

Yet again the only leftest solution is to ban guns.. What bullshit.

This cop IS responsible for what happened. The buck stops with him and his office.. His office failed.

John Oliver - Opioid Epidemic

Erm... How would making alcohol illegal help, exactly? Amateurs making alcohol are much more dangerous than amateurs growing weed. The stuff can poison you or leave you blind.

bring on the corporate take-over of the industry and watch the quality diminish.

Well that's probably not true. A large corporation isn't going to risk their money with takeover from the federal government. I imagine what you'll have is something like wine. Small operations and small businesses who have been growing weed before but now can do it out in the open. Hopefully that won't force the product to dip drastically, and also it will inspire competition between growers due to more public and allowable advertising. You can try different peoples stuff and maybe it'll be your thing.

They have only legalised possession so far though. Growing/distribution still seems to be illegal for the moment right?

Anyway, its not as if budweiser is the only option when it comes to alcohol. Plenty of smaller businesses making different varieties. Look at Amsterdam coffee shops.

i never thought about it like that, with the whole "free economy competition" aspect of it. or advertising. very good point.

also i chuckle every time the guy at :48 says "one ounce of marijuana" and holds two fingers an inch apart. obviously has never seen an ounce of weed in his life.

How To Grow Weed

Reefie says...

...or inexpensive. There's no way anyone would go through that process for 'personal consumption; as he says at the start.
Full on.

The setup portrayed in this video is too much for personal consumption - much more likely an effort of that size is to supply friends and family too.

For personal consumption a grow tent, ventilation (including carbon filter barrels), hydroponics, lighting, grow medium and nurtients will typically cost between 750 and 1000 to get up and running. Grow tents are susceptible to high humidity but when due care and attention are applied to the effort then it is possible to overcome the humidity issue without worrying about smell.

Have to say that the difference in quality of personally grown plants is phenomenal. I'll never buy from anyone ever again.

entropy,
i wish things were that simple but when i see tools such as this dickwad, who are so readily bought off to sell his fellow man into subservience..i tend to get mighty pissed off.
the number ONE abused drug in america is not weed, nor is it booze..it is prescription pain killers.study after study have shown not only the low risk weed has concerning addiction but has also revealed a rather stunning beneficial factor.
the opiate business has reached sales in the hundreds of billions but you cant grow oxycodone in your back yard but you can grow weed and opiates have shown themselves to be anything but beneficial in the long run.
its all about business and this douchebag sold his soul to obfuscate the facts in order to keep an antiquated and repressive law active by using propaganda and outright bullshit.
notice how he skirts the subject of cannabinoid pills?
yeah..thats cuz his overlords want to corner the market on????
you got it...weed..in pill form but you can only buy from them, growing it for your own use is considered "illegal".
free market..pfffft..my ass.

President Obama Says No to Legalizing Marijuana

volumptuous says...

>> ^sometimes:
Does anyone seriously believe that legalizing pot would help the economy? prices would drop substantially, and I really doubt there would be a significant increase in demand to make up for the price cut.

Yes, many many people believe it will help the economy.

• At one medical marijuana facility in Oakland, Ca, they fork over more than $100k per month in taxes into the state coffers. That's one facility, in one month.

• We have over 1,500 facilities like this just in SoCal alone. The expected revenue the state would see would be an immediate injection of $14bn, and at the very least an added $1bn per year.

• You then factor all of the administrative, policing, courts, etc issues, and the revenues you keep expand to a LOT OF MONEY.

There is no reason to believe prices would drop. In fact, as CA state legislator Tom Ammiano wants to tax sales at $50 per oz. That's a LOT! But us potheads would gladly pay it.

As far as the argument "oh, but then everyone would grow it, so there'd be less sales" is ridiculous. I drink beer, but I don't brew it. Why? Because it's really difficult, time consuming, and costly for me to home brew, and the end result would pale in comparison. I also don't want to invest so much time and energy in growing weed in my house, plus where would I do it? How much would my energy bills be?

Still, the title of this video is crap and should be changed.

And Obama would be an idiot to have answered this really any differently. Sure, he could've said something like "our drug policy is flawed, and there are cancer patients who need help, but legalization isn't going to cure an economy that is trillions in the hole."

Be happy he at least took the question. Obama doesn't work the way that Rougy would like him to work. Obama is a master behind the scenes, and I believe he's more likely to secretly open doors to decriminalization, than to risk his entire agenda by being center stage for the pot fight.

Hell Yes Drug Legalization Would Help Our Economy!

Psychologic says...

The book isn't about how much would be saved by legalizing marijuana, it's about the savings from legalizing all drugs. Meth, crack... everything. You can't use the numbers he states as evidence that legalizing marijuana would help the economy. The savings from that alone would be much lower.

Maybe legalizing all drugs is a better option than prohibition, but I bet that the support for allowing harder drugs will be much less than for weed. Weed is seen as harmless by a great number of people, but methamphetamine is widely viewed as very dangerous and highly addictive.

I very much support the idea of personal responsibility and being allowed to put whatever you want into your body, but I also wonder if our current system could handle such a change. Where would the supply of these drugs come from? Growing weed is pretty safe, but cooking meth could blow your house apart... would that be legal (probably not)? Someone would have to provide it, but would they be liable for known health risks (like brain damage)?

It is an interesting idea to contemplate, especially given the utter failure of prohibition.

Tim Meadows Warns of the Dangers of Smoking Reefer

rottenseed says...

no, but you can't grow weed for free either. light, water, nutrients... I mean unless you have some pasture out in the middle of nowhere and you don't mind shwag outdoor dirt weed. Otherwise maintaining proper PH levels, nutrients and other variables that determine the quality of the plant isn't free.
