I view it on my tablet sometimes. It isn't huge problem since I can just reload the page to get a different ad, I just thought I'd let you know about it.

In reply to this comment by lucky760:
Sorry I don't think there's anything we can do about how the ad is being rendered on your phone. Have you tried using the mobile version of the site? It is much more suitable for your phone (and doesn't have any ads).

You can load the mobile version on any page by clicking the link in the page footer or you can just put "m." before videosift.com: m.videosift.com

Hey, I'm having an odd problem with an advertisement on android. The Amazon ad (square on right side) clickable area seems to cover 90% of the screen, including the video. The ad displays normally, it just prevents me from clicking on anything.

I have"t had this problem with any other ads. Zoom level doesn't seem to affect it.

Theoretically yes, but the efficiency would be terrible with current tech.

If only relying on radiative cooling then the condenser would need to be huge just to cool something the size of a house. Of course, the hotter the coils, the more heat transfer there would be.

Then the radiation would need to be transmitted through the atmosphere. That would heat some of the air along the way, reducing the efficiency of the transfer and further increasing the amount of cooling needed to offset global warming (clouds wouldn't help either).

There's also the fact that the entire process consumes a lot of power to compress the coolant. Currently much of that power comes from sources that emit greenhouse gasses, reducing the net efficiency of the cooling offset. The machinery itself also creates heat, which would need to be offset with additional cooling.

I don't think her idea was "stupid"... she just doesn't understand the difficulties and cost involved. If we had unlimited solar power and extremely efficient large-scale AC farms then it might work, but there's also the unknown side effects of localized cooling on wildlife and the hydrological cycle.

It's a neat idea, and I'd love to run the numbers on it sometime for fun, but it's currently impractical and possibly counter-productive with our current capabilities.

Ordinary air conditioners could only increase global mean temperature due to the law of conservation of energy. But if the condenser coils are in a vacuum surrounded by glass on top and a mirror on the bottom, then they just radiate into space.

Don't know, but there should be something in options that lets you choose which keys move your character (or at least tell you which ones do).

Generally it's W,A,S,D.

next time play amnesia: the dark descent, you fucking pussy.

I thoroughly enjoyed that game... played it with headphones and no lights on (as intended).
The atmosphere was wonderfully effective, and not just in a "suddenly startled" way. Unfortunately it lost some of that atmosphere towards the end in favor of depicting torture, but it was worth playing either way.

I downloaded the trial for that but couldn't actually move my character. I tried all the keys. What was I doing wrong? (I'm not much of a PC gamer)

If I start lending it out then I'll just lose it again!

Usually if I find myself typing a lengthy post I'll stop myself and try to think about the subject from a different perspective. After two or three attempts I can usually get a pretty good idea of what is needed and what is fluff.

On the other hand, if I can't cut it down to a manageable size I just end up not posting. I think it mostly comes down to thinking of efficient and appropriate examples to illustrate an idea, which is deceptively difficult. My success in that regard depends greatly upon the subject.

Also, I've worked in public relations and teaching jobs dealing with people who tend to glaze over if I take more than three sentences to describe anything, so that may have something to do with shortening my posts. =)

How come you can easily sum up in 2 short paragraphs what it has taken me, and failed in me, 5 comments of walls of text! I hate my brain, can I borrow your's from time to time?

Statistically speaking Gods do not and can not exist.
[...]
Some statistics are absolute. The probability of a deity existing are finite:infinite. In other words 0.

By that logic humans can't exist, because the probability of any specific individual you could imagine existing is practically 0.

You can point out a lack of evidence in the existence of gods, and I would agree with you on that point, but statistics cannot disprove the existence of something.

If you want to think of it in mathematical terms... 1/X approaches zero as X approaches infinity, but 1/X cannot equal 0. You can't just divide something by infinity and proclaim it is therefore impossible. Mathematics do not work that way, goodnight.

That's embarrassing. I've lived in the southern US all my life and tend to slip back into the local grammar when I'm tired. ><

Valid correction. =)

Yea, that's a possibility. Us lowbies might do something dangerous with certain videos... like submit more of them. =X

Oh well, feel free to submit it yourself since apparently I'm not allowed. =)

I think that once you reach higher levels (e.g., bronze, silver, gold), you are able post post more types of embeds. I would ask one of the senior members, though.

Hey, how did you get the PeeWee video to embed? I never could get figure out why it told me that the embed was invalid.

I get the same error on another video I've been trying to embed (see below)... any suggestions?

(edit: wtf, why does it work here but won't let me submit it??)

I can't speak for chilaxe, but for me it's the tedium rather than the physicality I'd like to avoid. I can't see much of a health benefit from filling envelopes or scrubbing septic tanks. One could argue that it "builds character", but so does learning advanced physics or training for a marathon.

There are many jobs that people would rather not do if their livelihoods weren't dependent upon them, and many of those jobs could (or soon will) be performed by robots rather than people. I don't think that situation, in itself, is a bad thing. I'd rather spend my time improving myself both physically and intellectually, but I also have to eat so that means I need my jobs (I have three currently).

I do agree with you on the value of physical work, but if we end up in a world where people can choose their own methods rather than choosing those that pay well then I believe we will benefit from such a world both individually and societally.

Studies are showing that the healthiest and longest-lived people in the world do some daily manual labor their whole life. There's nothing tedious about accomplishing something with your own sweat and two hands: in fact there's nothing more rewarding.

Physical activity is certainly a very healthy thing.
Personally though, I'd rather go hiking than bolt wheels to car frames every day.

I didn't think much of physical labor either until...

I'm depressed that we haven't even been to the god damn moon since the 70's... yet in our minds we dream of going to other solar systems.

What's so great about the moon? It looks pretty boring to me. I'd much rather be here than there. Wait 20 years and see if you still think a rock floating around in space is more exciting than the virtual worlds we can create here at home.

Personally, I think the I-Phone is going to be the high water mark of human culture and I don't even own one.
People still have iPhones?
Aw, which part was the downvote for? =)
