Genius Test - Can you Solve it?

Kimmel: Starbucks Coffee Prank: New $7 Cup of Coffee

direpickle says...

These still all involve priming people to be prepared to expect one thing or another. Blindfold a bunch of people. Arrange a bunch of reds and whites. Have people taste them in random orders. Can we get consistent descriptors? Do people in general rate particular wines as better than others? As more enjoyable (not the same thing)? Do individuals consistently rate certain types of wine higher?

The perception of price definitely influences what people expect. No doubt. Expecting to taste a red will make a white taste more like a red, no doubt. But if there's no prompting, can people distinguish? I've never seen something like that.

The little 'gotcha' trick studies mostly just prove that the differences are/can be small enough that people can convince themselves to ignore them--which is fine, fair, and reasonable, but shouldn't be the end.

I pretty exclusively buy random $8 bottles of red wine with no preconceptions about how they'll taste, and there are some I like way better than others.

Wine-tasting is mostly in our minds:

"In one test, Brochet included fifty-four wine experts and asked them to give their impressions of what looked like two glasses of red and white wine. The wines were actually the same white wine, one of which had been tinted red with food coloring. But that didn’t stop the experts from describing the “red” wine in language typically used to describe red wines. One expert said that it was “jammy,”5 while another enjoyed its “crushed red fruit.”

"Another test that Brochet conducted was even more damning. He took a middling Bordeaux and served it in two different bottles. One bottle bore the label of a fancy grand cru, the other of an ordinary vin de table. Although they were being served the exact same wine, the experts gave the bottles nearly opposite descriptions. The grand cru was summarized as being “agreeable,” “woody,” “complex,” “balanced,” and “rounded,” while the most popular adjectives for the vin de table included “weak,” “short,” “light,” “flat,” and “faulty.”"

A bit uncalled for, I was not indicating that He was not guilty, I am however saying that we lack context in most of these videos because we have no idea what actions were taken immediately before or after this video. We have one angle of view and no idea if what looked like a haymaker from this angle looked like a poorly aimed attempt to grab a fleeing suspect from another. What I love about alot of these videos is they only contain about a 30 second "gotcha clip" of the cop when the next ten minutes could be the same cop apologizing profusely for an accidental hit. If you think that people don't accidentally hit each other I can point you to 100+ videos on this site alone backing me up. Now my main point here is even though I can remain apprehensive until we know the full story I'm also not jumping on the cops side and saying he is automatically free of blame, because honestly I don't know, I wasn't there (and neither where you). These videos leave a bad taste because of intent. I used to support the idea of Posting police misconduct until it became a habit to spread this "Us vs Them" attitude. For the most part, unless you are a criminal, you and the police should be on the same side and most police are more interested in getting through their day and just doing their job than actively trying to hurt anyone. Implying I'm a rapist is nothing more than ad hominem because you couldn't argue against my opinion.

>> ^Kofi:

I'm not saying that @arekin is a rapist. I'm just saying that he was male at the same time as a woman was raped. >> ^arekin:
I always hate police videos because they completely lack context. The "punch" looks very awkward to me, The officer would have been in his right to detain the woman if he believed she was throwing water (or even silly string) at the officers. If he felt that she was fleeing (as she was walking away) he is permitted to use acceptable force.
I'm not saying that any of this is the case, but "gotcha" police videos always leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Most "Malinformed" Audience (still): Fox News

Ahh. Gotcha.

Almost all TYT content is just "talking heads" and the odd graphic, so they use topical thumbnails to make them different and easier to search through.>> ^bareboards2:

I've never noticed that about TYT before. Interesting.
Siftie wouldn't kill the vid, Siftie would take away your ability to fix thumbnails. And since you aren't choosing the thumbnail, then there is no violation.
The rule, I think, is to prevent luring in viewers with a bait and switch. Which I think is why I have never noticed before -- there may have been bait, but there was no switch.
>> ^messenger:
If that's a rule, then most TYT videos should be removed from the Sift because almost none of their thumbnails are part of the content. The thumbs, FWIW, are somehow encoded in the video itself or are part of the embed when fetched from YouTube. Either way, they're chosen and placed by TYT. Think of them as dust jackets. I'd call that part of the original content. I don't add them later.
If Sifty still thinks that's a violation, then I guess he can go around killing them all. I'm not going to fix them. I've sifted so many.>> ^bareboards2:
PS your thumbnail doesn't appear anywhere in the vid. Siftbot says it must....

REVEALED: THE GOP STRATEGY

PostalBlowfish says...

Mittens won't have to answer to anyone. I'm sure everything he does stuffing his own account will benefit all the people who are backing him.

The first two prongs are crappy, but meh. The third one, however, is fucking disgusting. Someone should ask Republicans why they hate America and democracy. Not even in a "gotcha back" kinda way, but in a serious way. Seriously, Republicans, why do you hate democracy? These voting laws are like noticing a kid playing with matches, and reacting by drowning the population of the state he lives in.

It's chosen once a week. I go to the "top Sifts" tab on the day - use the "week" dropdown, and see which one is at the top at that time.>> ^messenger:
Neat-o! So it's a rolling thing. There might be a new one every few minutes, or even two replacing each other back and forth as votes come in, if things worked out that way. It seems like one video tends to stay up there for a week, so I thought it was chosen once a week.
Thanks!>> ^dag:
This is the method I use

You can see (for the next few hours) that it's the top SFW video of the week.
>> ^messenger:
Thanks dude! I notice that this vid only got the 5th most votes. Any reason you chose it for sift of the week? Wouldn't want people to think I've been lobbying the powers that be after all the TYT anti-corruption vids I've sifted. >> ^dag:

2. He says he opens his lunch that way?
3. His eats canned stuff for lunch?

Spose it depends where and when you work, or what you work as. And if you have a can opener or not
