No, it's because beyond expressing an immediate emotional reaction, he doesn't want to form a coherent counter-argument. By dismissing rottenseed as a "troll" he can avoid the burden of rational thought.

I can certainly agree with that, and also with the assertion that troubles in childhood can lead to criminal behavior later in life. I just don't think that your original comment supported any stance on abortion.

It said, in essence, that when population size decreases, so does the total number of crimes committed. That's fine as a simple observation, but if you try to use that as an argument for abortion then it tends to lead toward the logical conclusions I stated earlier. The "troubled childhood" argument is a bit stronger.

I don't think abortion is evil, just unfortunate. Terminating an "accidental" pregnancy isn't altogether different from not getting pregnant to begin with.

If someone chooses not to get pregnant then aren't they preventing a possible child from growing to maturity and enjoying life? I don't have any children, but I'm sure I could have produced well over 10 by now (assuming one partner, both starting at age 18). Is it a tragedy that those 10+ children will never live?

Within ~20 years we'll have easy and reliable methods for preventing accidental pregnancy, so the abortion issue will fade away once such methods become widespread and affordable. No unwanted pregnancies = no demand for abortions.

Until then we can perhaps concentrate on education and contraception to reduce the demand for abortion. Trying to outlaw it (or demonize it) would likely be about as successful as the War on Drugs.

Well, logically it tends to lead to the conclusion that abortion is a positive thing, and that more abortion is even better.

Right because everything is segmented into binary. People don't have abortions if they want a child...but if they don't want a child, they should feel free to abort. I don't care if another asshole isn't born into this world. I mean maybe that aborted fetus could've grown to be the most brilliant scientist we've ever seen, or maybe the most hate filled murder-rapist the country has ever known...but most likely it'll just be another run-of-the-mill, amount-to-nothing human joining a frat, clogging up the freeways, and wasting their life away in an 8 cube until retirement.

Making the assumption that each murder had a unique murder, the recorded population of Kansas of 2,775,997, and extending that trend, the abortion of 60,000 babies saved the state 2.3 murderers. These are murderers that kill real people with a life.

Something is seriously, seriously broken if that's how you see the situation. That just makes me sad. How many lives were saved as a result of the Holocaust? 9/11?

We all die. People in the Holocaust and 9/11 suffered they had a vested interest in life and a will to live. Fetuses are glorified plants.
