TSA Agent Found With ABC IPad

Motorist Intentionally Runs Over Dozens of Cyclists

Sagemind says...

Brazilian police have been questioning a man accused of driving his car at high speed through a crowd of cyclists, injuring at least 12 of them.

Video of the incident in the southern city of Porto Alegre shows bikes and riders flying through the air as other cyclists scream in panic.

The driver said he accelerated because cyclists were banging on his car and he feared he would be attacked.

The cyclists were holding a regular event to promote the use of bikes.

The incident happened on Friday evening but came to national prominence in Brazil on Monday when television networks began broadcasting amateur footage that had been posted on the internet.

No-one was killed and the injured have all been released from hospital.

The driver, Ricardo Neis, 47, fled the scene of the incident but was brought in for questioning after his abandoned car was found.

Police said he could face a charge of attempted homicide.

Cyclists in the demonstration said no riders had threatened the motorist.

The riders were part of a movement known as Critical Mass, which holds mass bike rides in cities around the world to demand more respect for cyclists and is sometimes accused of deliberately blocking traffic.

I think salvia should be legal but it's quite humorous that salvia is legal and mushrooms aren't. It's like they want kids to buy salvia just to have a snake infested psychedelic trainwreck go flying through their mind to scare them off from the good earthloving medicines.
Oh, just drink your Budweiser, go to work, eat at Subway, shop at Costco, vote some pigs into office and STFU. You have it so good, right? RIGHT ?!

Atheism 2.0 - TED talk by Alain de Botton

I love this talk. I find that some atheists can be just as dogmatic and invasive in imposing their point of view as any evangelical. This guy has it nailed.

There were some interesting ideas, but mostly I wasn't impressed.

He opens by talking about the "kind of atheist that likes christmas carols". So, for example, Richard Dawkins?

He then talks about how we can use the "tools of religion" to make our lives better. He's essentially talking about 2 things, community and indoctrination.

Community, I think we can all agree happens easily without religion. Just look at this site. For a more real world example, last years earthquake in my home town saw groups of people coming together to dig out liquefaction from each others houses.

Indoctrination, on the other hand, I can live without.

As for the sense of mysticism or wonder, again that's not an issue I worry about. On this site alone there are hundreds of videos that talk about a secular sense of wonder about the universe (pretty much anything with Carl Sagan, Neil DeGrasse Tyson or Brian Cox). At a more local level, that "sense of belonging to something bigger" comes back to community for me. Whether that's a group of friends, a city trying to rebuild itself, or even in the larger sense that we all inhabit the same rock flying through space.

All the very best fails of 2011!

Good collection, but I'm not sure if I'd classify all these as fail. Particularly the one with the wooden spike that flies through the window of the car. That was actually a great success against bad luck with no obvious fault on any part that I could see.
If this video has taught me anything, it's to not assume that thin metal poles are sturdy.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective, it's a win for the guy dodged sudden death and fail for the moron who did such a poor job of securing it in the first place.
I feel kinda bad for laughing at some of these incidents, but then many of them are just idiots engaging in reckless behavior and reaping the results, damn you schadenfreude.
