Tom Cruise and His Broken Ankle on The Graham Norton Show

The Disturbing History of the Suburbs

Stormsinger says...

You have to kind of worry about someone who shows no signs of any knowledge of the events of the last fifty years. Or is -so- partisan that they'll deny them all. Either way it's a bad sign.

In the name to help Americans we get another Democrat program to keep the black man down.

Even after Republicans ended Democratic controlled slavery. Democrats still find ways to oppress.

Democrat policies have done more to hurt the black man than any other cause.

Democrat President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a reputation as a friend of black people, yet he signed laws that promoted racial segregation throughout the United States.

When will you sifters learn... Democrats are the enslaving party.

the young turks call for a democratic party takeover

Fairbs says...

I find the history of how the Dems got here interesting. This isn't something I know much about. Is it accurate?

Personally, I'd like to see a third (and more) party. I think the Independents which are a majority in number could come together around a platform and be a force. Bluntly, fuck both the Dems and the Republicans.

One more point is that I don't think the state of the Democratic party is as dire as Cerk suggests. There were still 3 million more votes for Hillary without a fifty state strategy and with horrible gerrymandering and vote suppression.

Bill Maher - New Rule - The Danger of False Equivalency

If you understand how are voting system works and know that i'm in California you would know that ALL the electoral votes in California will go to Clinton no matter how i vote. If i were in a swing state (think there are eleven* of them out of fifty) my vote would have an impact and most likely id hold my nose and vote for her. I'm thankful i don't have to do that. Im glad i get to have my 'protest' vote, and by the way, it's a vote against both candidates and both the major parties.

Although If you have any thoughts regarding the rest of my ballot im happy to listen The only thing i've decided on thus far is where my presidential vote will go.

Who Pays on a First Date?

bareboards2 says...

That thing about "best friend"? I have been saying that EXACT THING for years.

And not just about who pays for a date. It is for all aspects of the relationship. If I wouldn't put up with certain crap from a friend, why would I from a fella?

Side note -- never have I been in an abusive relationship. I wonder why that is?

But I know I am wired differently.

Long before feminism was a big important concept to me, I went on my first date with a young man I didn't know well.

I was 13 years old, in 1967. We went to a matinee at the local movie theater. Fifty cents a ticket.

I remember standing behind him in line, as he awkwardly paid, and I awkwardly didn't know what to do or say.

And my main thought was -- I have a job. I can afford my own ticket. (I cleaned test tubes in the junior high science lab. I still have sense memories of moldy agar in a petri dish.)

I never got over that. I still feel that way. Go ahead and treat me to something special that you can afford. Next time, it'll be my turn to pick the activity and I'll pick something I can afford.

I was lousy at dating. But I was clear about the basic equality necessary in order to respectful to both of us.

You want me to link to a dictionary?

What, you don't believe they exist?

Slander is verbal only, written untruths that hurt the reputation of the recipient are called "libel". For it to be slander OR libel, the statements must be untrue and they must do damage to the offended party, I can't see how my words would fit either of those definitions, since they were about the WORK and not the person. (yes I know I said he hasn't got a clue, but that's valid criticism, and you'll see worse on any given day on Rotten Tomatoes)

Secondly, I'm not going to link to my work. I'm anonymous here for a reason (mostly because I'm an asshole). The first professional work I did was on a series called Weird-Ohs. Feel free to look it up. I've worked on about a dozen other shows for forty, maybe fifty episodes plus some other work on the side.

I don't see how linking to some animation will somehow prove that I am one of the credited animators anyhow.

The limits of how far humanity can ever travel - Kurzgesagt

gorillaman says...

It's not quite true to say it would take thousands of years to reach our nearest star. If only people weren't pussies about the small matter of exploding hundreds of nuclear bombs in the atmosphere, we could use technology that existed in the fifties to accelerate spacecraft to as much as a tenth of light speed. Proxima Centauri in a matter of decades, no problem.

There's no reason to actually do that; nothing to be learned, nothing to gain in terms of technology or resource exploitation or potential for the future, but god damn it, it would be cool.

Burger King Employee Pranked To Break Windows

eric3579 says...

First off i'm not sure where anyone is planning on raising the min wage to 15hr immediately(I don't know one way or another for sure). Even if the California bill passes for a min wage of 15hr its rolled out over six years. I think the first bump is fifty cents(10 to 10.50). Arriving at 15hr in 2022.

I also think the way you raise wages for everyone is exactly this way. The pressure to pay more for more skilled positions comes from the bottom.

(edit)
On another note. Ive never understood the attitude that if im not going to get more, then others shouldn't get more. Also a few of the people i hear saying there shouldn't be a 15 hr min wage are people who make quite a bit of money themselves($75,000 and up). They are so quick to judge others work value. It boggles my mind how workers will argue against other workers getting a bit more. The powers that be(owners) have duped you into doing there work for them it seems to me.

ForgedReality said:

So you can't possibly live on less than $15/hr? I feel like maybe that's more an issue of your money management skills then.

Sure, $6/hr is probably not enough. But it wasn't too long ago when 15 was a pretty decent wage. And kids living with mommy don't exactly require the same kind of "living wage" as they don't have any real expenses. So now, you raise the bottom to 15, and these kids now make more money. What about those who were making 15 before? Suddenly they're making minimum wage. I'm sure that makes them feel swell! Everyone should get a boost, not just those at the bottom. Probably a combination of that and a bit of a sliding scale to a certain maximum, along with tax reforms to close loop holes for those gaming the system.

Why Uber Is Terrible - Cracked Explains

Mordhaus says...

Uber and Lyft wouldn't exist if the Taxi system wasn't horrible beyond belief. Fix the medallion/license issues and they both go out of business. Otherwise, even if both ride sharing companies go out of business, people will still create some type of app to get around the shitty monopoly that is currently in place.

As far as trained professionals with background checks, yeah, a day's worth of training is amazing (sarcasm). Also, most taxi drivers go through a minimal (if any) amount of background checking. For instance, here in Austin, Tx, it was reported that fifty-three drivers who failed background checks to become Uber drivers had been issued chauffeur’s licenses by the City of Austin.

Why I Don't Play Videogames Online

HammerU says...

The kid was spamming forums inviting people to play with them. When they showed up he would trap them so they can't get out killing them and taking all their stuff. The disturbing part was he was taking their heads and hanging them on his wall as we see in the fifty second mark. When the admin started destroying his chests they were also full of other player's heads.
