Swat Team vs. Wall

shole says...

erm?
it's a sliding door.. and a girl from the inside opened it just before the car tore it off
surely i'm not the only one seeing this?

so yea..
-breaking down a door with excessive force when a nudge at the locking mechanism at the edge would do the trick
-forcing the door open to the wrong direction, ripping it off it's hinges
-almost killing the girl who opened it for them in the process
-almost getting themselves killed
that's 4x the fail

i bet it's the wrong house too

Rough Police in British Columbia

Skeeve says...

>> ^kir_mokum:
looks like they've taken a page from the VPD show of force manual.

Exactly. This isn't excessive force in the least.

Firstly, for the police to approach with guns drawn means this was already something relatively serious - these guys aren't wanted for something benign.

Secondly, notice how the guy in brown does what he his told and isn't even touched until he is handcuffed? The guy in black repeatedly disregards instructions. If a police officer with his gun drawn tells you to put your head down and not move you put your head down and stop moving. This is for your safety. Every time he moves the officer has to make a quick decision - is he going for a weapon? Listen to instructions and the police will not be rough.

Another thing, the kicks to the suspect's sides are a trained move by police that is considered a physical control method. Every police organization trains to use these in this type of situation.

I think this was well handled by these officers. The guy in black should have used his brain and followed instructions.

*wtf
by the way, if she was mouthing of at having her personal belongings look through, that can be understandable. And if she was relucant to let the guy look though maybe talk a bit more, instead of just saying 'step away ma'am' Is it just me, or was that not excessive force - it was a woman ffs - seriously - learn some fucking people skills and you won't need to throw people about like that...

If she got brain damage then it's excessive. I don't recall the TSA being ever granted the power to permanently damage people or their property.

If Westy Gets Hobbled for a however long for making a Joke (Terrible Talk Post)

budzos says...

A few points in my defense:

1. My comment was in support of Throbbin's point to QM that the onus of proof is on the accuser, not the accused. I was making it in an offensively humorous way, which is a trademark of my persona here. The need to explain this is sad. To say I am making an attack on homosexuals is fucking ridiculous.
2. My comment is only a personal attack if you are homophobic or think there is something wrong with sucking dick left and right. Otherwise see above about scathing humor.
3. Take a look at my unsifted videos. I posted something to the gay channel yesterday.

And finally, if you look at section 30 (Hobbling) of the FAQ it says (summarizing) that hobbling is for members who are abusing their star priveleges to the detriment of the site or community. Making a single inappropriate comment does not fall under this heading.

Furthermore, section 32 states that a comment found particularly offensive by enough members of the community will be deleted. Nowhere does it state this earns an instahobble.

You're right. I jumped the gun on that one. I'll post in the thread about that, too.

On second thought, after actually looking at the FAQ, I think this is bullshit.

Q 30 (Hobbling)
"unstable members have a meltdown and use their star powers to inflict damage to the site as well as the whole community. In order to cope with this unfortunate possibility, there exists the ability to hobble (or handcuff) an abusive member before they can continue doing damage to the Sift.

Diamond members and above have the ability to instantly hobble any starred (or better) member who is blatantly misusing their abilities."

Q 32 (Comments)
* What can't I say in a comment?

We love a good fiery comment thread, but sometimes they go overboard. Please avoid personal attacks. It's okay to criticize ideas but refrain personal insults. Please avoid blatantly racist speech, threats, or other verbal abuse. This goes for comments in public arenas as well as private member profile comments. If a comment is bad enough it will probably be deleted due to negative feedback. "

It looks to me like I was not abusing my star priveleges to inflict damange on the site or community. I merely posted an inappropriate comment, which should have been deleted if you felt it was so inappropriate.

I really like you man, but that comment was out of line. Sure QM can be the biggest of douche bags, but an open insult like that was too much. Don't take the hobbling too hard, man. It's nothing personal, dude. Things just need to be done for fairness sake, you know?

Louisiana Police Choke Man to Death for Drugs in His Mouth

tsquire1 says...

Heres what I saw:

A drugged out overweight redneck tried to hide drugs in his hand as he talked to a cop, probably forgetting they were there in the first place. The cop sees this and he says 'uh...nothings there sir. i swear.'
-the cop says, 'ok. then open your hand.'
-he refuses
They struggle, and the cop says open your hand, but he says 'theres nothing there' and doesnt open it
- he puts it in his other hand then in his mouth and they fight and he RESISTS ARREST.
-this fatass was on drugs, resisting arrest while the cop tried to subdue him as he told him to 'spit it out'.

How else was the cop supposed to handle this fatfuck who was probably drugged out? When did he hold him down and choke him to death? I have seen alot of videos on here of excessive force and police brutality, but I'm not sure I would call this one either of those.

Arrested For Asking A Policeman For His Badge Number

Esoog says...

Am I the only one on the other side of the fence here? First of all, YES, there was resistance. When asked to comply, one them being placed on the ground was fighting and struggling.

This "watchgroup" got exactly what they wanted. A reaction from the police, a response, and some publicity. There one goal in these situations is to generate public emotional response by doing anything they can, and that includes obstruction. Just let the people do their jobs.

Having said that...YES, I saw one case of excessive force when the officer was standing on the person's foot. That was unnecesary.

Police officers are not evil, sad people. PEOPLE are evil and sad. Some of them just happen to be police officers.

Raw; Iranian Police Shoot Protester

>> ^Psychologic:
I'm really curious what is going on here. It looks like the guys up front are setting fire to stuff, and I saw at least one person throwing rocks. I really wish the video showed what was happening right as they opened fire.
This doesn't look like the police attacking "nonviolent demonstrators". There was definitely some destruction going on before the shooting (though I'm not sure what they were destroying).
Firing on those people definitely seems like excessive force, but it doesn't look totally unprovoked. There will always be people who use such general disorder as an opportunity to take their frustration and anger out on their choice of targets. Unfortunately that also gives the government a visible excuse to respond aggressively, even if disproportionately so.

From what I understand, the protests started out with nonviolence; however, the pro-government militia, the Basij, started beating people for protesting. If I heard correctly, the police were actually protecting the protesters from the Basij during the first couple of protests.

But with every protest, you can almost guarantee that some protesters are using violence and destruction.

Cops Kill Mentally Challenged Teen Using "Non-Lethal" Force

kronosposeidon says...

Gunny, how many times do we need to see cops being allowed to use (by their own regulations) excessive force before you'll believe we live in a police state? This shit is happening all the damn time, and the cops are routinely getting away with it. When the cops have more rights than their victims, then that's what I call a police state.

I used to instinctively recoil at the use of the term "police state" as well, mainly because I didn't (and still don't) think our freedom of speech has been hampered over all. But since I've seen more and more police brutality videos, the more I'm convinced that a police state exists all the same. I don't use the term lightly. Also lets not forget that our government authorized the use of torture on "enemy combatants", and the President was given the power to designate anyone he wanted as an "enemy combatant." He still has that power, BTW. If all this shit isn't the trappings of a police state, then I don't know what is.
