okay, so, man + prosthetic tits - women's clothes + auto shop + flirtation with sexy girls = lesbian. I think I understand, but the mathematics of sexual identity I find baffling sometimes.

Is that a lesbian? I thought it was a man? I'm still so confused.

funny thing about promoting videos, is that little things make the difference, but brute force doesn't. So, yes, I'm redoing my lesbian garage video!

"We need a culture of courage in Washington instead of a culture of cowardice."

I couldn't agree with that man more. Democrats are proving over and over and over again that they are cowardly and I am becoming more and more and more disillusioned over my hopes for the Obama administration and a democratically controlled Congress.

Frankly, Obama's 180 on this (or perhaps more accurately 90 right turn) shows he does NOT have the courage of his convictions, and is willing to simply give up on something because it is hard. That is NOT the man I voted for and it eats me up inside to see him do this.

Goddammit, the one things modern "Republicans" have in spades is the cojones to take the bold steps and initiatives, dam the torpedos, and run in a direction until they by-GOD get what they want. Unfortunately they wanted a war for profit and the elevation of corporate profits over the safety and health of America's citizens.

If Democrats could find the same sack as Republicans had under GW, this debate would be over and done with. Use their tactics! Call supporters of the status quo unpatriotic, show up with guns to anti-healthcare rallies! Pay priests and pastors HUGE sums of cash to get them to tell their congregations Jesus would want public healthcare! Get country music stars to write songs for you! Christ people, republicans wrote the godsdamn playbook on this, just friggin COPY IT!

You've reached the second to the last milestone that means anything. The rest is empty status. Enjoy your new powers and may Jesus ride in on his white stallion-led chariot and gift you eternal life in his kingdom of country music, mullets and perms.

Channel Assignment Limit Increase? (Sift Talk Post)

To address Deano's point, I don't think eliminating the Music channel is a good idea. There are too many videos here that don't fit neatly into our five musical genre tags:
rocknroll
metal
jazz
bravo
hiphop
Even if we included Wildwestshow for country music, that's still not enough to cover all of our musical bases. Where would reggae go? Or theremin music? Or any experimental instruments, such as tesla coils? Or just plain old acoustic folk music?
Music definitely needs to stay, IMHO.

That's not what Deano said. The point made was that if a music video already fits in a certain musical channel, then it should not be necessary to also add a music label to it. For instance, you submit a classical music video, so you put it in the bravo channel and possibly the livemusic channel; if the video already has those 2 musical channels, why bother adding it to the music channel and waste one slot that could be used to describe another characteristic of such video?

at least that's how I am reading that post.

Good Bye Indie 103.1 (Blog Entry by gourmetemu)

That sucks. What about internet radio and pod casting? That's how I get by. Deepmix.ru and Bluemars are my foundation of internet radio.

At least you have good radio to listen to. In Kuwait we have AFN, VOA, Marina, RKFM, EasyFM and a shit load of Arabic radio stations that are essentially interchangeable as Arabic music is in a huge creative sink (90% of the songs start with HABIBI, which means my darling and is always orchestrated the same goddamn way).

AFN and VOA are really standard American corporate music fare, though its hilarious to hear a 40 plus announcer try to show enthusiasm for Soulja Boy's Superman song.

RKFM is the worst, its state owned so they really don't need to try at all. They had this woman announcer for donkeys years now that loves playing shitty country music all the goddamn time and keeps replaying songs that were considered new when I was learning to walk. They have the worst music selection and the worst announcers in every time slot. Oh and someone really fucking loves Sugar Ray over there because I know the entire lyrics to Every morning... argh.

Marina FM is okay but it tries to hard to be hip and comes off totally square. The over enthusiastic announcers talk to their audience wayyyy too much.

EasyFM is the most bearable as they simply play classical music, but sometimes someone fucks up and they play what sounds like Elevator muzak.

Hugh Laurie: British Slang vs American Slang

mizila says...

Ummm.... accents are not slang words.... - MarineGunrock

They're actually discussing British vs. American slang, not accents. -xax

I think what MG is saying is "shawty" is not slang, it's "shorty" said with an accent. If they're including accents, "flossing" should really be said "flossin'" more so than "shorty" should be said "shawty." In fact "shawty" is so close to "shotty," if he'd have said "a shotgun" she would've had to give it to him.

Then again maybe he meant the whole "chin wag" vs. "shin wag" debacle.

I was under the impression that badonkadonk was from country music

I think you're referring to Trace Adkins's 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' which is definitely a play on the rap term, so no, not originated from country music at all.

Nice. I wonder what the grape-lady thinks of these videos and spin-offs? Someone she knows must forward them to her.

Maybe she'll run for the Republicans in 2010. Or write a book. Or start a website. Or make a country music album.

Hehe, that really is sweet of you, thanks! Honestly, that's what I meant in the first place about not being the best person to ask, just cos I know that I haven't worked abstract out yet and probably never will. I don't really feel retarded about it, I just have a incredibly common-as-muck grasp of the english language and am far too dry half the time. It's ok though, I have my uses

(i hate country music)

In reply to this comment by kronosposeidon:
Hey, don't say that you're "retarded." Maybe abstract works just aren't your bag, so you've never felt compelled to learn more about them. No biggie. It doesn't make you retarded. There are so many different art forms, and then there are so many different approaches to each of those art forms that, unless you are a completely blank slate, there's no way you could possibly like them all. In general I can't stand country music, though I do like some. Does that make me "retarded?" Shit, I hope not.

In reply to this comment by alien_concept:
See that's exactly what i'm saying man! I wouldn't of got that from it in a million years. To me it's like oooo pretty colours, ahhh lady bits, oooo smearing ragjuice over her belly, wtf are all these numbers?? I'm 110% retarded when it comes to matters of abstract anything

In reply to this comment by kronosposeidon:
No, you're not the worst person to ask, or I wouldn't have asked you. I liked it because I thought it was trying to express how we try to quantify people, thus taking away their individuality. Then again, I may be the worst person to ask.

Your "Wide Open Space" video will eventually make it, even if not in the next 48 hrs. You just gotta believe.

In reply to this comment by alien_concept:
Hmm, it's very pretty to look at, draws you in and makes you keep watching, because the animation is so unique. But all in all, it does nothing for me, it's far too abstract, if the blurb wasn't underneath for me to read, I wouldn't of had a clue what to make of it, which sort of doesn't count in terms of being able to appreciate something for me. Then again, i'm probably the worst person to ask

And thank you for the promote again on Wide Open Space Looks like it's staying where it is...

heheh - now that I"m a bit more sober, I have to pull back just a bit from that grandiose compliment. It is one hell of a playlist, though.

I used to have a similar (i.e., word for word identical) philosophy on music. But after years of listening to the likes of the Grateful Dead, Bela Fleck, Johnny Cash, Allison Krauss, and dozens of other country musicians, I realized that what I didn't like in country was the same as what I didn't like in contemporary pop music - no soul. There is an incredible amount of really great country music out there if you learn to avoid the pop music crap created in Nashville studios. Given your otherwise very eclectic tastes, I'd recommend keeping that door not entirely closed.

In reply to this comment by Gunter:
Thanks man, Yeah my tastes in music is pretty much everything except country music. If I wanted to hear men crying then I'd go to a strip club and listen in on what they say to the hook erm um strippers

I was just about to go off on the inclusion of Sly in a "Muzak" playlist. Then I checked the whole list. Wow - that might be the best playlist on the sift. Nice work!
