It's not a discussion unless you contribute something. Like maybe some way the site could reduce its bandwidth requirements. Or increase its revenue. Issy, no one here doubts your loyalty to this place (hell you're the poster girl), but your loyalty isn't going to keep it afloat unless you have a few 10s of thousands of dollars to donate. $50 here, $20 there isn't going to do it.

Yes, dag, please give us some indication of where the money is going so we can help you figure out how to use it better. We trust you, but we want to be a part of the solution, not just a cog in the machine. Is it all draining down in your cdn? That seems unlikely, but I don't know - I've never run a big website. Can everyone go without avatars? Are thumbnails really relevant? Unless we know how the place is run, it's impossible for us to help you make it run more efficiently.

Government intervention? What, like safe working conditions, child labor laws, fair wage enforcement, health standards, environmental protection, limited work hours/days, liability for negligence and abuse? Free market zealots want no part of Democracy. They view publicly elected representatives as the enemy and the general public themselves as expendable cogs. But are you holding up Digg and YouTube as examples of communities we should emulate? Sorry, but I'm 100% against that. Although those sites are successful in some ways- I see them as failed communities. The "community" itself has no power to make descisions- or any kind of realistic communication with the "executive" branch. The members are "resource units" without any say in the decisions and directions of the site. Tiny little cogs talking amongst themselves.
We don't want to take the humanity out of this community in that way. We'll continue to have "human" issues that have to be worked through and solved.
The fantastic code that Lucky has built into VideoSift is about empowering members - not fencing them in. But with power, comes responsibility- if the members can't handle the responsibility then as a community we have to act to take care of the problem.
I'm really appreciative of all the input and discussion on this- it shows that as a community we're very alive and thriving.

Aside from account stuff and admin contact, there should not be emails, except if you want it and it makes your life easier. You certainly should not have to be receiving emails to keep the cogs of VS turning. I receive NO emails eva.
