Walmart on strike

Shepppard says...

Okay.. Honestly, I've been holding this back. But I can't honestly say that the people who work at wal-mart need more money for what they do.

I get it, you've got bills to pay, and the minimum wage you make at wal-mart isn't cutting it. But seriously, can I play devils advocate here for one second and say: you work at fucking wal-mart.

Any store clerk of any kind, work in a grocery store as a stock boy, bag boy, cart boy, cashier, anything that A) A teenager could do well, or B) you need little to no education to do shouldn't GET more than minimum wage. Yes, people make mistakes in their life, but should the person with 3 kids and no husband be getting paid 15 bucks an hour for putting clothes on the rack simply because she has a sad story behind her?

The rest of the points, respect, hour slashing, discrimination, all that - completely justified, and power to you all for attempting to change that.

I get it, it's only one part of the bigger picture that i'm picking apart, but it still bothers me.

400 Pictures of a Transsexual Male To Female Transition

Why is it that any time this topic comes up guys have to go on about wether they'd date/fuck a TG person? Who asked you that? When you walk into a McDonalds and see the cashier behind the counter and she happens to be female do you IMMEDIATELY wonder about sticking your dick in her? Is that the be-all-end-all of your relationships with women? If so, yes, its you, its not them.

The way attitudes get changed is to talk about things in a rational way, and not dismiss them out of hand just because your sensibilities are too... sensitive.

Well, that seemed relatively uncalled for.

There was nothing in this thread about wanting "To stick a dick in 'her'" no "I'd tap that" nothing.

Infact, there's a genuine discussion going on right now where a couple people have said "I don't think I could have a relationship with her". Not "I don't think I could have a sexual relationship" just relationship. And then, those same two people actually saying "And I feel bad about it."

Basically I think the discussion is the realization that because the person is TG, they automatically associate that with the male aspect, and would think that dating that person is effectively being in a gay relationship in a weird and twisted way.

And.. as for who asked, this would be a community where, fortunately, free speech and freedom of expression are allowed, even if it wasn't asked for. That's generally how the best topics get discussed, one person says something, people either agree and add to the conversation, or disagree and a discussion rages on making the website, you know, interesting.

(oh, and for the record, it WAS asked "would you date a girl who used to be a guy")

Police Militarization in Anaheim, CA

If a protest involves hordes of people marching in the street, blocking traffic and generally being loud and annoying, I don't really consider that "peaceful." It may not be violent but it's entirely disruptive and hinders people's ability to get where they need to go and do what they need to do.
You can try and justify the disruption by saying that it's the only way to get attention but really, you would only say that if you agreed with the protestors. If a bunch of people marched on the streets because the MSRP of Twinkies was raised by 5 cents, would that protest still be "justified"? A disruption is a disruption, regardless of motivation. If the protestors in the video had permits and conducted their activity in a genuinely peaceful manner, I seriously doubt there would have been any police intervention.

You only see what you want to see. The only people being disruptive and blocking traffic in this video are the cops and their fucking horses.
And who said you have a right to life without "disruption" anyway? You gonna call the police when that asshole won't stop talking in the movie theater? You going to just keep your mouth shut and walk away peacefully when that cashier overcharges you for your Twinkies? Maybe your idea of protest is standing quietly on some street corner, permit in pocket, holding a sign. It's not my idea of protest (not any more), and if disruptions bother you, stay home and veg on VS all day. Just remember to be quiet and keep your opinions to yourself, because I feel they are disruptive, and they bother me.

Flawed analogies. If you're telling someone to quiet down in a theater, you are directly addressing the person you take issue with. If you tell a cashier that he overcharged you, same deal. Nobody aside from the people directly responsible for your grievances are affected. Conversely, when you block traffic so you can protest against police brutality, who are you actually affecting? The cops will show up and do what they get paid to do. Bystanders, on the other hand, get screwed.

If you want to protest police brutality, do it where only police are affected. Like a police station. Don't do it in the middle of a business area where you're just impeding people's ability to live their lives. If you're so self-centered that you're willing to promote your agenda at the expense of everyone else, don't surprised when people get irritated. And when these people have body armor, guns, tazers, tear gas, pepper spray, riot shields, etc, things probably won't end well for you.

What Is Your Worst Pet Peeve?

mintbbb says...

Most of my have to do with driving, some already mentioned, but also: people who don't use turn signals (especially the ones who just slam on their brakes, then turn left or right, no indication where they want to go).

People who cut you off, then want to turn LEFT the next intersection on a busy no-turn-lane road so you sit behind them for 5 minutes.

People who refuse to pull into the intersection when turning left, or even go when there is nobody coming, because there is 'only a green light but the turn arrow turned off already'.

People who start digging for something on a traffic light and never look up to see when the light goes green.

Oh, people on supermarkets/grocery stores who park their cart in the middle of the aisle, then browse something next to their cart and never mind that nobody can get by.

People on (Starbucks or ANY) line (of 5/10/20.. people) who come up and say 'oh, I have no idea what I want, let me think...'

People who wait for the cashier to say how much they owe, THEN dig out their CHECKBOOK and start writing a check. Special treat if they can't find their checkbook. Also, the people who use a credit card, but first can't find it. They they have to try to figure out which way it goes in the reader, then type their PIN wrong 4 times, and after that have to use a different card.

I think I just have no patience..

Thanks for your response I'll think on it.

The other thing that usually drives me insane is that he'll ask questions about something I've JUST answered! BUT, his literal lack of knowledge (in this case general relativity and special relativity) is making him spout buffoon and sadly very uninformed statements or opinions, often aimed at me and my previous post (well-informed and standard--backed up with testing and experimentation); which as I said is hilarious as I already answered it in that post "right above" and he can't read between the lines to see that the answer is sitting the for all to see, he just doesn't understand the answer, nor do I think he ever will see it very soon to be VERY fair and blunt. His main issue is with telling himself the truth in the first place and he can't yet do that with simple children's stories--not to be a snob or complete snide remark, but it is merely a fact that he will not accept the truth--faith and platitudes are far more important to him in his life right now than are being able to build:

An arena that can fit 100,000 people at night and day with the top open and closed; elevators, cashiers, electricity, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, heating, sound, seating, walk-paths and stairs, vendors--food and accessories, security, camera & video, HDTV and a HD-JUMBOTRON, housing for teams and workers/staff, office space, etc, etc, etc... Places that are amazing to behold in their construction and if you're part of the management of the construction at any level or you have to be THE manager that keeps the building going once it's done you will find out very soon that a lot of what he says is utter rubbish; especially if you are the engineer that designed this Behemoth with every life in mind so that they would NOT be die to some kind of mental lapse; this is a job (like no other really) that has a HUGE amount of pressure on it and ALL THAT you have to rely on is: Physics (and that little brain of yours + a good calculator and drafting tools ). Does he have even any idea of how incredibly smart these people are, then he comes in and mocks Einstein like he's just this buffoon that of course NEVER thought of the COMPLETELY OBVIOUS stuff. He would NEVER do that; Einstein made people that build the greatest structures on Earth look like idiot children! I'm guessing that was skipped in seminary!? That little thing he thinks is so utterly useless to talk about in the grand scheme of things is so vitally important to everything he does EVERY day (and I really wonder if he knows HOW MUCH we depend on Science and it's discoveries--I mean your whole house would basically disappear without the inventions, it's a complete joke and I really do think he takes it for granted.

It's hard to EVER have a conversation with someone that loves their God SO MUCH they have their OWN God complex! I refuse to talk to a brick wall I'm not a damn mad man!

Anyway, thanks again.

BLAARGH!!! It just gets frustrating, especially when they don't seem to be trolls--so ignore it is.

Walmart Manager Denies Xmas Eve Shoppers

mintbbb says...

Believe me, every other day the retail workers smile and say 'yes, you are right, how can we help you?' to all the asshole customers. But ON CHRISTMAS EVE! Just ONE day of the year, just frigging think about the retail workers! Since they already work 364 days a year now, after Thanksgiving was taken too. Is it too much to say 'On Xmas Eve, PLEASE let them leave work on time! JUST Do your shopping before 7:30pm on Christmas EVE!

Yes, the store hours might be untilo 8pm, but do you HAVE TO BE THE ASSHOLE WHO SHOWS UP AT 7:59???? Show some respect to the people who already are working their butts off and get no respect, no thank yous, no holidays off!

Thank God I am not working retail any more, but my best friend is, and so are lots of my other friends. They are the hardest working people, and still, they are the ones that worst of everything.

And things like this last minute shopping not just Walmart. I never worked for Walmart, but I salute this manager for standing up to the employees. I am sure the other money-hungry retailers were still ushering people out around 8:50pm and having cashiers stay there, just because the elite wanted to have their last minute leisure shopping 'when it is finally quiet in the store'.

>> ^mintbbb:

The guy's a douchebag but he is right. There is no inherent right to shop. They have the right to refuse service.
That said. It's a stupid policy. Deny entry at 8. Sure it takes longer to close because you have to get the people out..but so what. It doesn't take THAT long to get people out vs the bad PR incidents like this generates.
Let the consumer whores shop. that standoff was completely unnecessary.

It does take that long to get people out. When a store closes at 10pm, you have to pretty much try to wrestle some people out by 10:30. Turning off the lights and announcing that the store is closed does not help. On a normal night, people have to be scheduled at least that extra 30 minutes late. So, even now, I am sure nobody gets to go home before 8:30.
It is frigging Christmas eve! Retail workers are people too (surprise!), and they might want to get out of the store and to their families, and not stay extra late because some idiots want to do LAST MINUTE SHOPPING.

Mintbbb,
I understand what you are saying but I disagree.
Are retail store workers people? Yes. But unfortunately they are people with jobs, and that job is to allow people to shop. I've never heard of a policy where "Yes the store is open until 8:00 but we stop letting people in at 7:30".
I understand these people have homes, families, children, cats, etc to get home too but when you work retail it's part of your job. You (unfortunately) have to service guys like these who wait till the last minute and make you late going home.
As a person who did customer service extensively I've had people plenty of time call up 10 minutes before closing and I don't say to them midway through the call "I'm sorry I was not able to resolve your computer issue, however it is now 6:00 PM and we are closed, please try your call again tomorrow HAVE A NICE DAY click . Nor do we stop picking up at 5:30 because everyone wants to leave at 6:00.
What's happening sucks but the Manager and everyone in the store needs to suck it up and let those people in.

You just fucked with the WRONG McDonald's clerk.

Update from gothamist:
Last week, a jury voted to dismiss all charges against the McDonald's cashier who used a metal rod to beat up two customers who slapped him and then jumped over the counter at the West Village location in October. While 31-year-old Rayon McIntosh is off the hook, a jury has now voted to indict Denise Darbeau and Rachel Edwards, the two women who jumped over the counter, on burglary charges.
The 24-year-old women were initially charged with misdemeanor trespass in the West 3rd Street McDonald's altercation which took place on October 13. Those charges were increased to burglary, which meant that they allegedly entered the fast food restaurant with intent to commit a crime. “The person who committed a crime got away with a vicious assault,” said defense attorney Harold Baker. “It seems backwards to me...The people who were hurt are now charged with a crime.” Darbeau suffered a fractured skull and a broken right arm in the incident, while Edwards received a gash on her face.

I was a overweight person like the people you decided to criticize, so yes I do get worked up when assholes say off the cuff retarded shit that once hit me close to my heart. To be overweight is to be constantly brutalized based on the fact you are larger then another. One memory that serves at the moment is a cashier when I was 15, she was mad at me for whatever reason but said " shut up you fat fuck" as if being fat as some how offensive or whatnot.

The stupid sh it you said did hit a notch.

so eat your own shit for a night and fuck your own asshole. Then douche yourself with bleach and be a better person.
