Russell Howard On Jesus

transmorpher says...

Stuart Lee is exactly the thing I'm talking about. I'm not saying that you SHOULD make fun of muslims or islam just to arbitrarily balance things out. I'm saying that you simply can't, or else.

Because when someone makes a joke or a cartoon, people get beheaded, cartoonists get shot with AK-47's, riots ensue, and clerics wish death on people. And at the very least people start yelling "racist".

I don't agree that the clip I've posted is satirizing the situation. He's pointing out that he knows what would happen if he did make a joke about it. The joke being "I'm not that stupid to do that".

Maybe you're terrified. I'm really not that concerned and the clip you posted is actually satirising that very attitude.

I accidentally posted the wrong Dara O'Briain clip, but please watch the edited one (it's very funny and relevant).

Here's Stewart Lee on the same topic

Batman - Evolving The Legend

NaMeCaF says...

Best cartoon series ever made. And yeah, everytime I read or see a picture of the Joker or Batman, Conroy and Hamill's voices are automatically what I hear. They are the quintessential Batman and Joker bar none.

Cholos Watch Speedy Gonzales

FlowersInHisHair says...

Maybe, but it certainly seems there are plenty of Mexican stereotypes that are reinforced by the cartoons!

newtboy said:

I thought Speedy was being used to disprove the racial stereotype that all Mexicans are slow and lazy when I watched it. He IS Mexican, and he's not slow or lazy by far, nor is he dumb.

Toph is Blind

Such a good series. Episodic cartoons are fine and all, but I loved that Avatar presented a well-planned, multi-season story arc that actually had a satisfying resolution. Shows, animated or live action, rarely seem to have a decent ending, but both Avatar and Korra nailed it in my opinion. If you've written it off as a show for kids and not watched it, do yourself a favor and get to it. If you need an excuse, find / borrow / steal a kid or two first (but really, no excuse should be needed).

Acrobatics in the garage (Voltige)

I wonder if anyone ripped on "Road Runner" cartoons for unrealistic physics effects.
It's not supposed to follow the laws of science. That's what makes it awesome.

Come Visit Australia

transmorpher says...

I'm glad we didn't make the same mistake the kind countries of Europe did, and instead we have a vetting process to help ensure that only genuine refugees are coming in. I'm not saying the approach is necessarily the best one, but what can you do when so many economic migrants are clogging the system (on purpose) for people in genuine need of help. (I'm a refugee myself btw).

If it was up to me I'd add some additional tests to ensure that these people are fit for a modern society too, you know, to make sure my daughter/wife/mother/sister etc can go outside on their own, unlike some cities in Europe now.

But then again if it was up to me, neither of the 3 major political parties would be in charge since they're all useless. Liberals are just a mouth piece for big business (literally, that's why they were formed). And they all also look like the bad guys from any 80s and 90s kids cartoon. The Labour party is well meaning, but ultimately as lame, pathetic and gut-less as their "leader", they simply don't stand for anything and all of their policies boil down the lowest common denominator. The Greens driven by emotion not facts, and now they don't even seem to care about the environment very much.

There needs to be some kind of progressive party that is capable of driving humanity forward into the future, instead of weighing it down with traditions of the past. The whole system needs a huge reform.

Rashida Jones coaches Stephen on how to be a Feminist

Babymech says...

'All houses matter' comes from an old cartoon referencing the "all lives matter" argument. Everybody can agree that all houses matter, but let's prioritize action on the houses that are actually on fire, and let's call ourselves firefighters instead of houselovers.

Like I said, egalitarianism is a respectable vision, and I think it's a decent counterpoint to, for example individualism. I just see an unfortunate behavior among many self-proclaimed egalitarianists to shout down activists by saying that equal treatment is more important than prioritizing specific social remedies. Eg "it's not about gay marriage, it's about all marriage; it's not about black lives, it's about all lives, and it's not about women's rights, it's about human rights." I agree - there's nothing in egalitarianism that inherently precludes any specific activism, but I see it as fairly common and non-constructive for people to act as though it does, or that it's somehow morally superior to care equally about all issues at once.

I'm not sure I understand 'all houses matter'.
I see nothing about egalitarianism that precludes me from admitting that women are farther behind in receiving equal treatment and rights on most (but not all) topics, but it does seem to more clearly reflect my goals, those being equality for all.

Bill Maher: Dilbert Creator Scott Adams

Imagoamin says...

Scott Adams has always been a raging trashfire. Not surprised he's a Trump supporter, especially after his rant about how women are like "children and the mentally handicapped".

MRA Dilbert blog taking his actual quotes and putting them into Dilbert strips should really just replace his cartoon.

I think he will do this for ever 80s cartoon like Voltron.

Michael Bay will hit his peak when he makes a film composed completely of single frame cuts. When they're selling buckets of Ritalin in the lobby, instead of popcorn, you'll know he's achieved his magnum opus.

Con artist Donald. I have read about half of Scotts book and found a couple of interesting things in there I had not known about myself. Really interesting for people with a particular set of problems. The Joseph Heller of cartoon strips.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Trailer #4

AeroMechanical says...

I dunno. I mean, it looks like it's better than the first one because at least it's picking the cartoon version of TMNT and sticking with it, but it still has that Michael Bay 'style' where they tell the CGI team to just go fucking nuts and to hell with composition or editing, shot to shot cohesion and basically realism and believability in general. Put tons of shiny CGI shit on the screen moving around really fast and call it action.

So... the 7-12 year old male demographic will probably like it. I guess that's okay. That's who the cartoon appealed to.

Three Teen Girls Drowned as Cops Stand By and Do Nothing

ulysses1904 jokingly says...

There's a dashcam video making the rounds showing the usual afterglow of police brutality\indifference, where they are smoking cigars, giving high-fives and gloating "we don't need no stinking badges".

Michael Moore and Disney are already in negotiations to secure the rights. If anyone can make a movie out of a stick figure cartoon it would be them.
