Anthony Bourdain falls in love with Vietnam's street food

I'm seriously so bummed out right now. Celebrity deaths don't normally affect me so much, but as someone who loves to eat and to travel, Bourdain was an inspiration in so many ways. The world is definitely a worse place without him in it.

I know you weren't asking me, but:

Speaking from experience, as long as you come out the other end of it, yeah. It wasn't heroin and methadone for me, but I was definitely out of control with a cocktail of drugs when I was younger. I got lucky and walked away with my life and my freedom.

Those experiences, living in that darkness, have made me who I am. It sprung me into and around the world and pushed my life down a much more exciting and unconventional path. Specifically, it gave me the ability to feel comfortable around unsavory people, to have a sharper more focused mind in dangerous situations, to not turn down an experience out of prudishness, to know my limits, and to have a dark sense of humor which can get me out of a lot of tight squeezes.

I believe it is these qualities that also empower Bourdain to be Bourdain at this stage in his life. Now, I just need to figure out how to make a lot more money and parlay my experience into getting someone to pay me to travel so that I can enjoy my 50s as much as he seems to be.

sorry, i just opend the video and didn't vote. I didn't realize how long it was.

Not to worry, it is sort of a niche video... gotta be either a Joe or Tony fan to really appreciate it. That said, if you don't know either of them and have 2.5 hours to blow, you'll get a great view into them.

Dammit! I can't seem to find it. I think I tried to find it because i wanted to submit it. I could have sworn it was on here. I saw it through netflix and it was one of the first full episodes I'd ever watched and one of my favorites. Here's a link to the clip. http://www.travelchannel.com/travelchannel/TV_Shows/Anthony_Bourdain/Video/Tony_Eats_Live_Octopus
I guess if I can find a copy of it to embed, it shall be submitted by me... until someone finds the original! LOL

I've had fried calamari, more than once, and it never did anything for me. I thought it tasted bland, and I didn't care for the texture. Still, I'd be willing to try it again if it were seasoned, as long as it wasn't too spicy. (I like spicy food, provided the spice doesn't overwhelm all the other flavors.)

I don't recall seeing the Anthony Bourdain clip that you're mentioning, but I'd watch it if you found it for me. And served me some potstickers. Mmmm...potstickers. In reply to this comment by Issykitty:
Personally, no... but Issy and Frankie probably would. LOL! I do enjoy having grilled octopus and squid at the Korean BBQ, and it is usually marinated in a sauce that contains very spicy gochujang (hot pepper paste). Have you seen the Anthony Bourdain clip of when he went to South Korea with the producer of his show who is of course Korean? I will find it. I believe it is on here. It is a most interesting episode!

Have you ever tried this? If so, remind me to NEVER mess with you. Anyone who could do that strikes fear into my bowels. Yes, bowels.
