Russian anti-aircraft gun turns into full-auto nightmare

Asmo says...

Given that usually the guns would be acting in tandem, and that the turret spins to the left and elevates as the left gun blazes away, it's the only theory I've got. Well, unless the gunner hit the "deathblossom" button... *grin*

Interesting hypothesis. I would HOPE that a tank turret has enough weight and control that it wouldn't just spin from the guns off center force, but considering the lack of control over the guns and age of the tanks, you may be right.

I don't know that they turned it, the gun on the right side stops firing (possible jam) and the second keeps going. Possibly the sheer force lifted the gun and spun the turret.

Why in the hell did they start turning the turret while it fired? It was pointed in the safe direction, then they freaked out and nearly killed everyone there! YOINKS!

Tank brake test

It's nice that he pointed the turret up in the air, just in case it got too close.

I was surprised when I learned that tanks can do 50+ mph (80+ km/h).

Inside the World's Most Dangerous Amusement Park

OMG nostalgia! I lived not even 20 minutes from there when I was a kid. I almost got killed in the parking lot there on the 4th of July once when a firework exploded right after launch and sent fiery fragments out into the crowd (one of them smashed the windshield of the car next to me). I also remember totally wanting to go on the Cannonball loop but my parents wouldn't let me (in hindsight probably a good decision on their part).

Motorworld there was awesome--it was across the street from Action Park and I think run by the same people. They had these cage-enclosed go-karts tanks equipped with compressed-air tennis ball cannons and sensors that stopped the tanks temporarily if they got hit by a tennis ball. You could pay to drive the tanks around inside an enclosed arena or you could also shoot at the tanks from the outside of the arena using air-cannon turrets that required quarters to operate. Tons of fun.

Mostly, though, I went to the water park, which according to Wikipedia had the most casualties. I got a fair amount of scrapes from the waterslides and I can totally see how people could get seriously injured on some of them.

US Air Force's Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser Defense Program

See those two haunchin' CAT generator-lookin' boxes sitting next to the turret in that video of the one on the deck of that vessel? Instant wattage. Hospital emergency generators for ex., use way bigger diesel engines. I'm guessing this thing uses a similar set-up, and you could pack a lot of generator in the cabin of that modified jet.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for this sort of defense, but did anyone else think it was a little disturbing when they talked about the debris of the shot down missile falling on the country that fired it as a plus.

That's all fine and dandy, but there is no guarantee that the debris will damage anything that will impede the enemy war machine, if anything it will probably fall on the civilians of that country. Civilians whose only crime is living in the wrong country.

Still, I hate to say it, but it's a small price to pay to stop a potential attack of large magnitude.

Now...that out of the way. what the heck powers the lasers? The jet turbines couldn't be enough could it?

The Greatest Zerg Strategy Ever!

Because half of those overlords would have been killed if yellows defences had been shooting at them. Those turrets didn't fire a single shot because he was allied to red. The overlords move so slowly you have plenty of time to build more defences once you see it coming.

I'm sure if he had been able to do this to an adversary in a normal game, we would be watching that video, not this one. He probably tried it a dozen times before realising he could still make a cool video by backstabbing an ally instead.

So, if you think you can pull this off, I look forward to the video.

But god DAMN that was a nice Half-Life reference with the crowbar and pickup sound!

Sheesh. A few too many imho. Portal cube, headcrab in the jar, lambda symbols all over the place. Talk about subliminal advertising. It's not like Valve needs any........more.......awesome games! Valve is the best developer ever! I love this video! I'm gonna go load up Half-Life 2.

Have you had a look at the Black Mesa overhaul of Half-Life 1?
Oh, and I think I spy a Portal turret and possibly a picture on the wall with Gordon.

Oh yes. They did a lot of good things in that mod; and some bad. Ladders, for one. There's also another team working on recreating Opposing Force for Source.

Looking at the cabling connecting it to the laptop, I doubt this will be a retail product.
Or if it is, it's going to have some expensive electronics inside.

Expensive? Motors, motion sensors, flashing lights and a voicebox? They could definitely make this affordable.
For some reason I thought it had a motion tracker that told the servos to aim the guns directly at you. But it doesn't which makes much less impressive.
