Yes, that was an awful film. After reading your post it occurred to me that Transcendence without Johnny Depp (or any other love interest / human A.I. component) might actually have worked...

His "style" is to take elements of existing movies and genres and putting them together to what I'll call generously "homages" to the originals. Tarantino is a remixer, taking samples and putting them together into a new song. Sounds familiar but is somewhat new.
He is very, very good at that and can write interesting dialogue (the first half of Death Proof was nothing but). He also starts to believe his own hype (as seen in Django Unchained, a good but way too mastubatory in nature film) and risks to develop the same relationship to Christoph Waltz (a very good, distinctive and interesting actor) that Tim Burton has with Johnny Depp.
I love pretty much all his movies but he certainly has to watch out that he doesn't trip over his own ego and reputation, both bigger than good for him.

I was hoping for Johnny Depp to star in a *dramaticised" version.

I've always had that uncanny valley feeling watching Johnny Depp. This makes a lot of sense.

I'm looking forward to it, as Gore has demonstrated he has a knack for just all out fun films. Also, he seems intent on taking over Tim Burton's crown for working with Johnny Depp more than anyone else.

Depp certainly seems to inspire some loyalty in his directors, that's for sure.

Boy, that looks cool. I like the sideways steam engine powerslide effects. I will not be the one to apologize to the native American nations for what Johnny Depp is likely to do here though. I think he should do that himself.

I never knew Johnny Depp to have such a complex and turbulent past! I'm glad this has finally help bring to light some of his greatest achievements as well as his darkest moments, that we can ALL relate to!
