Donald Trump is whatever he needs to be to get your approval right now. He's not a man of conviction who can be relied upon to stand by his beliefs. He's an adolescent with a twitter account who needs more followers to prop up his ego. He's a thin skinned, vindictive narcissist who cares more about the appearance of popularity than committing to the hard work required to earn true respect. He's a child in the middle of the room who's suddenly realized everyone's paying attention to him, so he hams it up and makes silly faces to hold the attention. His relentless need for praise and zero integrity allowed him to shape-shift into anything that would get the highest ratings. He is whatever the desperate and disenfranchised wanted him to be, so they voted for him. But he still only cares about the cheering section, even if he has to bring his own with him. So he will never do what's hard to fulfill his promise. He'll put up the facade, sign the papers in front of the cameras, bask in the glory, move on and blame someone else when he fails to follow through. There are people who need what he promised and I feel sorry for them that the only one saying what they needed to hear was a sad little man who's universe does not extend beyond his own ego. He will self destruct, because he always does.

I was thinking much the same thing. I think he's hamming it up a bit to suit the show, but that was some pretty deep honest introspection there, along with an almighty well of angst.

I'm starting to get why people vote for Trump. To throw a radical in to the equation, for better or worse. It's a gamble, and it's likely going to turn out bad if he wins the presidency, but it's not like the establishment is going to magically reform itself...

And though it's his show and he's trying to run it, I though Colbert was actually ruining it a little bit. It became apparently pretty early in that Bill was talking from the heart for a change (rather than shooting from the hip), it might be worthwhile listening.

My take on the Craig Ferguson show is that it would be a lot better if he was funny. When your sidekick is funnier then you , that's trouble. And if you take out the gay insinuations, references to past drug problems, and hamming it up to the camera, there's little content left at all.

I want to see how they played the delivery part later. I'm not sure whether it would be more fun to go completely deadpan and act like nothing unusual happened, or to ham it up even more when she got there...

I dunno Boise, this might the first time I disagree with you. I will agree that she appears to ham it up a bit when she "plays" the recorder, but my cynicism tells me she almost got away with it were it not for those meddling kids.

A lot of the idiot abroad series is tame compared to the podcasts and radio shows. Karl isn't putting anything on (except for the 5% hamming it up bit), but gervais is laughing extra hard because - well, he has to, he made a comedy tv show about it.

The china one was alright, the taj mahal one was hilarious, but the latest one at petra was really tame. But that's from the perspective of someone who knows him. Anyone who knows him will watch them all and find something to laugh at, people who don't mind not even see it as funny.

For example in the petra one, he was telling a story about getting blackmailed into going to church and getting kicked out for bouncing a ball in the aisle. On the podcasts, not only is it told funnier, but gervais/merchant are riffing off it and he goes off on tangents about the people in the story, whose stories are even more outlandish and weird than the first.

His school used to make them correct travel magazine print errors for a little earner, making them think it was a class exercise
His neighbor had a horse that lived in their house (in the middle of a city)
His friend lives in a hole underground which he dug in a field because he 'wanted to live like in the army'

Woman with a strange looking head
2 kids at his school who had very big heads and webbed hands
His uncle used to use a rubber dinghy as a bed

quality explanation. I don't always enjoy Karl as much as Ricky seems to. It does seem to be a bit put on at times.

A lot of people insist that he's 100% genuine, some say that his persona has changed a bit as time went by, almost like he's got slower and stupider. Some people claim that this is because he's opened more as ricky makes him feel more comfortable about his own persona.

Personally, i think during the early years when they got together on XFM, Mr. Dilkington was 100% genuine, but i think as time went by, he began to ham it up to make it appear funnier. I don't think Ricky or Steve cajole/cajoled him into doing that, i just think he realised why he was funny. I think nowadays both Ricky and Steve realise that the shaven-chimp-coconut-face is hamming it up, but no one minds.

I wouldn't say he's acting or pretending to be stupid, i'd just say that he adds 20% stupidity onto his already whopping stupidity.

But also, i feel he's far funnier during the early years of XFM before he started to ham it up a bit.

I am more annoyed now than I have been in a long time. Not only was that guy hamming it up, he was doing it in a way that scratched across my proverbial chalkboard whilst making the most annoying sound in the world. This is just a longer version of this video;

Yeah, I was going to protest... but after watching the clip, you're right. He's marginalizing an otherwise valid message by hamming it up with the voices.

In answer to your question, I'd have to say...kind of both. She's really a rather talented musician; that's some impressive keyboarding skills she's showing. But she's definitely hamming it up (poorly, in my opinion). I'd think she'd be better to just do a straight performance...but I've been told many times that my tastes aren't very mainstream.

I appreciate his message, but he hams it up WAY too much, and all of the quick editing is completely unnecessary and distracting.
