Mock the Week: Lockerbie, Scotland, NHS, Palin, Tourism
>> ^spoco2:
It's here Except... they've edited it now (there's a note on the top).
The original, moronic, quote was "People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."
Jesus, what sort of lies are they spreading out there? I mean, the actions of our utterly clueless government with their policies of neglect has over a period of what, 20-30 years? resulted in the NHS being dirty, understaffed and wasteful. But people talking about the NHS as though it's a place where people with a fag on (smoking a cigarette for my overseas brethren) condemn people to death or disfigurement over a heap of organs and body parts for any illness that can't be cured by tablets makes me a little bit agitated.
20-30 years ago, the NHS was an amazing system and i wouldn't have traded it for any other country's system. For the level of care and attention and competency you couldn't have been reliant on anything better.
The brutal fact is that we only moan about it so much because we're used to perfection. I'd still take the NHS over any other even today.
It's an horrific shame that politicians will lie so badly to their own people (in this case americans, but it happens all over the world). I could walk into my local hospital right now and get healthcare of an equal or better standard than the average american person with the average health insurance. It's still a brilliant service, it's just not perfect anymore.
I just had a wave of tragic angst that we haven't moved on. We're still like the tribes we used to be, with our great elected shaman stood on a mound in front of us, arms raised, telling us with religious certainty that the eclipse was because the sun god is angry and we must place more meat on the sacrificial altar tonight. Then later he has a lovely beef steak and his pick of the virgins. We haven't moved on, we're still being led around by lies and assurances from people who are as lost as we are.
So the shaman waves his hands and a million americans believe that the NHS is an evil boneyard.
Suicide Girls: Beauty Redefined
Gwiz..., I picking up what you are putting down. I never understood where they got the name from! Some EMO Angst I guess!
Kevin Smith's Views on Twilight
That idiot girl making retard comments the whole time is really fucking annoying. She's the kind of dumbass who likes to say stupid shit to show off to her friends how fucking COOL she is. I would be embarrassed to even be standing next to her. God how annoying. Every time she said something, I wanted to fucking knock her out.
Also - Never seen Twilight; don't intend to. Therefore, I probably cannot identify with this guy as well as some of you, which maybe explains my angst over some dipshit in the crowd being able to ruin the enjoyment for me.
Zero Punctuation: Ghostbusters The Video Game
I'm starting to get tired of Yahtzee. Sure he's ball-busting funny at times and has taken the place of Dennis Miller with all the esoteric references and other errata, but he's gotten too "damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't" for me. For this example, the game revists the old areas of the movie and faithfully recreate the proton streams, he bitches. If the game didn't do those things, he'd bitch because it didn't. I guess he's figured out that sells to his angst-ridden fanbase, so milk it for all it's worth.
Zzzzzzzz.
Beulah-Don't Forget to Breathe
Just as I like it, a shnitzel of rock, covered in melted piano and spiced with angst.

Lyrics:
Mitternacht!
Mitternacht!
Wenn die Gondeln Trauer tragen
Und es hallt der Toten Klagen
Tief im Nacken das Grauen sitzt
Wenn die Uhr beginnt zu schlagen
Kalte, dichte Nebelschwaden
Berühr'n dich sacht
Mitternacht
Loca in ferna in nocte
Loca in ferna in nocte
Animae in nebula
Mitternacht!
Media nox obscura nox
Crudelitas animarum
Campana sonat
Duo decies
Mitternacht
Media nox obscura nox
Crudelitas animarum
Campana sonat

Mitternacht
Gefriert das Blut dir in den Adern
Schnürt dir Angst die Kehle zu
Hörst du dein Herz und die Glocken schlagen
Ist es Nacht
Mitternacht
Loca in ferna in nocte

Animae in nebula
Mitternacht

Midnight.
Midnight.
When the small gondolas carry the mourning
And the crying of the dead resounds,
Up to the neck the gray sit.
When the clock begins to sound
Cold, dark clouds
Touch you lightly.
Midnight.

Your blood freezes in your veins.
Your fear catches in your throat, too.
You hear your heart and the clock strike.
This is night.

Coldplay are shit
Downvote for the title.
A bit too teeny angst.
"omg coldplai iz so gayz, mY cHeMicAL rOmANcE ROX!!!!"
I also like the shredded idea better, that only the instruments showing on screen are played.
Fox News - Food Police for Obama
I'd be mad at Fox for wasting time on this, except I don't watch Fox.
It's just the news cycle...you can only point out the nearly 10% unemployment rate and half-a-million jobs being lost per month so much, facts which I'm pretty sure if a Republican were in the White House would be bellowed non-stop along with undisguised blame and angst.
Speaking of media, why do all the other media outlets besides Fox even bother competing? They all work for the Obama White House, spewing the exact same propaganda!
Bleach AMV - 30S2M's Attack
my so called angst
war protester gets run over by a car
Maybe they shouldn't take out their teen angst on random innocent people.
The Passion For Destruction Is Also A Creative Passion.
Pfft, anarchy, what a teenage angst of a political theory.
So Battlestar Galactica is Over. Thoughts? (Scifi Talk Post)
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
I'm deliberately not reading this post, as I'm still working through season 3, but I'd just like to say that BSG is cheesy schmaltz most of the time. If I have to see Adama and Apollo hug once more to swelling music, I think I'm going to barf.
The Terminator series is much better, at least I'm only dealing with teen angst.
J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Trailer (3/5/2009)
Captain kirk is a man's man, and making him all angst-ridden just doesn't seem right.
Still, it looks like it has some cool effects, and I'm usually down for anything that has lots of spaceships crashing into each other and planets blowing up.
Steele: Rush Isn't The GOP's Leader
>> ^quantumushroom:
This Rush is more important:
The president is presiding over economic failure. The president is watching it, doing nothing about it. He's watching unemployment grow; he's watching the stock market plummet; he is watching people sign up for unemployment. The president of the United States is doing nothing to stop the downward spiral of this economy. He has no economic recovery plan. The truth is, the president of the United States and Rahm Emanuel, who, remember, said, "Crisis is too great a thing to waste." What does that mean? They want you suffering, they want you miserable, they want it worse, they want you rejecting conservatism. They want you rejecting capitalism. They want you turning to them in fear and desperation and angst for an immediate fix to the problem. They want you thinking you have no ability to fix your own problems. They think you have and they want you to have no ability to take care of yourself. So as the stock market now approaches minus 2,800 since Obama was elected, the statement today is to speed up the economic recovery, we're going to focus on health care. Ask yourself how that is going to get you your next job.
Why do I get the impression that that quote and that opinion about that quote comes from a conservative blog? I don't know what he meant, and I could not be bothered dredging up a link for something so irrelevant but if I had to guess it would be something along the lines of creating an opportunity to fund the development of massively underfunded and otherwise crumbling infrastructure by employing those who would have been otherwise left jobless by the layoffs in the construction industry.
How could you possibly think that worsening the situation now will cause people to blame conservatism. They will blame interventionary policy for failing. How could you possibly say that the US president has no recovery plan, have you been living under a rock? You may disagree with it but that does not disprove the former.
How has complete not-intervention combined with consistent tax cuts on the wealthy worked out for you in the past 8 years?
Let me turn your last point back around, how does improving health care not create a more dynamic and competitive work force in the long term and strengthen economic growth?
