ah, but I believe that if a person follows only one perceived "truth" to the point that they accept all the "answers" it has to offer, preaching said truth and rejecting outright all others, then it has become their religion.

I like this definition of religion:
“any specific system of belief, worship, or conduct that prescribes certain responses to the existence (or non-existence) and character of God.”
or this one:
"The sum total of answers given to explain humankind’s relationship with the universe."

For the record, I think all religions are a huge misguided effort at something good within us as humans, and I respect science as a method.

Science is not a group of claims about reality like religion is.
Science is a METHOD for testing claims.
Religion has no such method.
Therefore science is not a religion.

I would argue the communist states of yesterday and today more closely resemble Fascism in practice than formal communism. But whatever... that was Dictators, Communists and Fascists, not Atheists. The relevant factor is utter submission to the will of the state, not godlessness.
