Ron Paul is Even More Out-Of-Touch Than Expected (Bruno Related)
I was expecting an interview on Austrian economics. So, that didn't
turn out that way. But, by the time he started pulling his pants down,
I, What is going on here? I ran out of the room. This interview has
ended.
When this all gets out, I'm probably going to have to apologize to my supporters because I think most of them are going to figure out why in the world didn't I sock this guy in the nose?
SLIWA: You ran out. But, did you actually see the original Borat film where he pulls these kinds of stunts?
PAUL: No, no. Movies I used to see are 'Sound of Music.' Tonight, I was sitting here watching 'Gone with the Wind.' So, I don't watch that kind of stuff. And I understand he makes a lot of money. But, if he makes a lot of money, I have to permit the market to do this.
I don't like the idea that he lies his way into an interview. That to me is fraud. But, the fact that he has raunchy material and people buy into it, it's sort of sad that that is a reflection of our culture. To me, it's a real shame that people are going to reward him with millions and millions of dollars for being so crass."

"the sound of music"?
"gone with the wind"?
And oh noes!!! It's "sad" that one of the funniest guys on the planet right now can make money off of being so "crass".
I guess to the grea Dr.Paul, Bruno should be following Andy Griffith, or some old-timey, good natured, talkie comedy genius like Cal Stewart.

Wait wait wait... was Ron ever in touch at all?

He wants to personally regulate the comedy industry.
so wait a minute, you're calling this guy out of touch because he wouldn't degrade himself before an audience? So democracy works like this - the morons who get elected must pretend to be similar to the morons who elect them?
Yes, bluecliff. You are so right.
That's it. I'm going GALT!!! SOMEONE GIVE ME A TEABAG QUICK!
thank you. you can also buy my new dvd - "stop doing that you piss-ant"

This is such a brilliant and hilarious line.
I can't wait to see this scene in the movie..
The market permits a lot of 'crass' behavior. If only all of it was Sasha Baron Cohen style, as opposed to basically swindling people out of billions.
Ron Paul will be 77 years old in August of 2012.
Wow, people really do find Borat funny. New one on me.
Some prefer a political and economic leader who spends his time studying, reading, and writing about politics and economics rather than following the latest pop culture...
I guess thats why you vote for people like Obama who exploit pop culture to manipulate your feelings and actions; and then expand the wars overseas, fail to legalize drugs, support the RIAA levying $150,000 fines for mp3s, fail to support habeas corpus, fail to take a stand against torture, fail to stop millions going to CEOs, etc. etc.
If you want someone to laugh at Sacha Cohen with you, try finding people in your town rather than the voting booth. Obama doesn't give a shit about you or your life, but you may be able to find a few in your town who do.
Doesn't sound out of touch to me at all. Sacha Baron Cohen can be funny but it's almost always at someone's expense.
"Some prefer a political and economic leader who spends his time studying, reading, and writing about politics and economics rather than following the latest pop culture..."
It wouldn't kill politicians or intellectuals to understand mainstream society. If they have time to watch 70 year old movies, they have time to stay in touch with the culture.
^Doctor, Engineer, Scientist. In what ways does understanding pop culture enhance their job performance? Why do you think a politician or economist should be any different?
Before your doctor prescribes you medicine, do you show him youtube clips of Borat and see if he laughs?
Last time you went to a job interview, do you recall having to field any questions about Borat?
Even if Paul did recognize Borat, what about every other aspect of pop culture? It would take a full time job (i.e. watching TV six hours a day) to even keep up with the latest crap. What kind of leader would he be if he watched TV six hours a day? Look at any famous or successful person in history and undoubtedly they will have been more "out of touch" than the regular person because they don't spend their time using they spend their time producing.
The culture he is in touch with is the culture he lived while he was young. He is 73, do you think you are going to care about pop culture when you are 73? He has authored 19 books, and freqently gives talks and lectures. Ron Paul doesn't watch TV he is ON TV. I don't know how many books he has read but it has to at least be in the thousands.
Try writing 19 books, getting a M.D. , delivering thousands of babies, serving in the military, being a grandfather, a US representative, and running for president and see how much time you have to watch MTV news.
Just because you (volumptuous) don't expect something doesn't mean its unexpected.
^People form their ideas when they're young and then they stop learning. 'Science advances funeral by funeral.'
Do you want to be like all these old people who don't know how to send email? Does Ron Paul does know how, or do his handlers do everything for him that involves any technology created in the last 20 years?
I can see one problem with isolating oneself from technology and the zeitgeist. Fiscal libertarianism appears to be on the wrong side of history. Obama's going to be in the White House for the next 8 years. After that, the voters might still not have forgiven Republicans for the Bush administration. The de-regulation of the past couple of decades is now seen, rightly or wrongly, as a mistake. The demographic future of the US (differential fertility rates) and thus the will of the voting public is predominately in 2 groups: non-white groups who lean toward socialism, and white religious conservatives who primarily care about things like abortion.
The course of history will be fine if you believe in technology. Placing all your eggs in the basket of a minority economic doctrine doesn't seem very productive.
I hate to be on the side of the stubbornly ignorant, but in this case the righties are correct. A man's knowledge of current popular entertainment bears no relation to his ability to lead and make wise policy decisions.
You may call him out of touch, I call him unencumbered.
