Crazy awesome fight scene from THE RAID
>> ^Sarzy:
I like Ebert, but he is way off on this one. I have noticed that in recent years, his tolerance for movies with a lot of violence and death has gone down -- perhaps it's an unwelcome reminder of his own looming mortality. It's unfortunate, because this is a superlative martial arts film, and Ebert has shown a fondness for these types of movies in the past.
And shuac, I think comparing this film -- which has some of the most intricately choreographed, beautifully violent and skillfully shot/edited action that we've seen in years -- to "Ass" is, to put it bluntly, idiotic. It's also condescendingly dismissive of 50+ years of martial arts action cinema, in which this film is easily a milestone -- a culmination of the types of films made by stars like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Donnie Yen. I can agree with Ebert that the characters are (intentionally) thin in this movie, but to imply that there is no artistry or craft at work here is, again, idiotic.
I am going to promote this, because it is awesome.
One question for you, Sarzy. You say this film is a milestone. I'm sure you're right. Can you tell me why this film is a milestone?

Ron Paul's Message to Occupy Wall Street - END THE FED!
@ Marbles -
you have contradicted yourself with your first & last statements about Paul's healthcare view's
1) He's the only candidate that supports universal healthcare.
2) he believes people should be able to make their own decisions about their health and their children's health--not the government.
As seen in America when private interest involve themselves in the healthcare industry ALL do not get covered thus it is not UNIVERSAL, so how can he be 'for' people making their own choices when either government is not allowed as a viable option and private business keeps them from treatment?. BTW governments are very efficient at providing this essential service as can be seen in numerous countries outside of America's borders.
just because as you state Paul wants the federal government out of marriage all together, does in no way mean that he is in favour of gay's to marry that is just a red herring.
how would ending the federal reserve help? & can Paul secure the economy and our standards of living by doing so?, and ending the fed does not erase the debt America has accumulated, especially regarding that the rest of the world will still be utilizing it. just like how although America gets the majority of its funding from China they do not get paid in Yen.
'government agencies continually fail', you do realize that Paul is a government servant don't you?. so apparently they CAN do somethings right to you. and the protection of air, food and climate causing emissions would not be lessened by corporate businesses (who do you think is funding the anti-climate change policies?).
as you stated: Quote 'So he believes in a creator and is unconvinced of evolution. Big deal'. this is a BIG DEAL to me, if you want to run as a rational idea politician and believe in a invisible friend this clearly means that you are not as rational as you think and it may effect future policies. do you also believe that Sarah Palin would be a good president as she also believes in a divine creator?. and this also denounces that they do not have any understanding or appreciation for science and what it has given to us, would president Paul allow government supplied vaccines in a future epidemic?, probably not and this is part of what makes him so dangerous. freedom to choice cannot be allowed if that very freedom is ofset from the very start.

I concur with you assessments of the movies I mentioned and welcome your recommendations with great anticipation. In fact, I intend to search out copies this weekend. Thank you again.

I am unfamiliar with the two films mentioned and look forward to seeing then. He has done some of the most beautiful films. Curse of the Golden Flower and House of Flying Daggers are stunning.
If you were looking for things similar to "Curse of the Golden Flower" in the 3 movies I named, then you'll probably be disappointed as they are very different. To me, Zhang Yi Mou is much better at depicting characters than big fighting scenes (though I think his direction of the Beijing Olympic opening was awesome).
"House of the flying dagger" and "Curse of the golden flower" were just too superficial for my taste. Sure they have pretty pictures and actors, but they lack the essence of humanity that's present in his other movies.
Another one of my favorite movies of his: "No one less" is terribly slow and uneventful from the first glance, but at a certain moment in the movie, the viewer couldn't help but to feel the raw emotional connection with one of the main characters, and I literally couldn't hold back my tears. It's the only moment in the movie that makes you feel that way, and it only last a few seconds... but it's all worthy.

This movie got so panned, and I could never understand why, it's one of my all-time favourites!
It was mainly because of it's none too subtle pro one-China/communist message. But nevertheless it is one of the most visually beautiful films ever produced.
Watch the baddest fight scene you've never seen!

That is indeed Kentucky Fried Movie, but myself being a gemini, I never know what to expect *thwack, arrow shoots in gut, slump over*
If you haven't seen it, watch it. It's funny! I believe that's from the movie at the end "Fist Full of Yen!"
