I would not point a gun at this guy

NordlichReiter says...

I see sankyo, yonkyo, nikkyo, and kotegaeshi. These technique work on opponents stupid enough to be in your circle.

They work good on people who are angry uncontrolled and all around not trained attackers.

They do work in barfights, because drunks are easy to give a beating to.

Ill reiterate this, these techniques work, because they have been around since the samurai. The advent of the gun nullified the need to train regularly in this sort of fighting because it keeps your enemy at a distance (Last Samurai). But the same principles behind hand to hand and weapons can be used with firearms.

Haiuchi(mutual destruction - any one speaks Japanese please tell me if that's the right word) still happens even with firearms. The majority of the shootouts that took place in wild west were done up close with hands on gun and tussling.

We could argue all day about this, and we could go this way, that way. But no one in this world can prove to me that they can be sure that they can kick any one's ass in a situation akin to this. We cannot be certain that we will prevail, that is the main reason martial artists say try to run away.

But if the victim will fight them then that person had better fight them with every ounce of life they have in them, because it comes down to life and death.

The Bridge

NordlichReiter says...

"Like those trees, we are all dying. The future is an illusion, our plans are an illusion, our fears an illusion. We live life in every breath. Now. Every cup of tea. Every word we write... Every blossom we hold. Every life we take. A beat. Life in every breath. That is bushido." - Katsomoto The Last Samurai

You can try to stop this, but it is the Human Condition, like the desire to see others suffer, the desire for sex, or the any other desire that you can compare.

But, as certian things are scientifically discovered (this is not a scientific article http://www.oxytocin.org/oxytoc/love-science.html) they may find that all things that happen in a brain is a chemical reaction. Love is a chemical induced euphoria, glee also. If depression is a chemical imbalance, then the will that most humans have to keep them from self harm can be altered by chemical reaction.

The happening is a movie rendition of the belief that a chemically induced stupor can make the brain kill itself.

Completely OT, but that's an odd interpretation of Secretary. I saw it primarily as a love story - the dom/sub thing was really nothing more than a literary device to tell a great love story - not unlike The Last Samurai.

Shinto Ryu kenjutsu School

Yep, i agree with you on the need to train with resistance. I tend to cross train in boxing, and wrestling. I almost never use the Aikido standing techniques, because they might work, but probably wont because you cant flip a resisting attacking it would result in a stalemate.

But i read in the kung fu magazine with Chen Bing on the cover that many advocates for training see the same stagnation.

I looked for a sparing item for kenjutsu, but i think the closest i can get to that is Last Samurai when Cruise spares with Ujiro.
