CNN is a disgusting joke. These days when you visit their website it's goofy shit about viral videos and celebrity gossip. Burn in hell, CNN, you traitorous corporate whore.

Hey I noticed I did not have the option to downvote your comment, the one quoted in this reply.

So, DOWNVOTE....

symbolic is all, but a downvote is in order, and a downvote is what the comment gets.

CNN fails to comprehend basic concepts of journalism

Porksandwich says...

Gotta use strong words to help the public get their opinion. If the public opinion is opposite of what you want them to think, it makes it hard to build multi-billionaire TV programs people pay to watch (or at least watch enough that they help them get paid).

There's just too much information out there for people to process it all, and the news stations have learned it's easier to tell people what their opinions should be than give them enough information to form an opinion based on fact.

And what's worse is that a lot of the things they spend so much time on have very small chances of actually impacting the lives of the majority of the viewers and citizenry in general. Stuff that has impact on day to day lives is barely covered....they wrap you in so many useless topics that's all you can think about or discuss with people...because that's all they know......since that's all that's covered. It's like celebrity gossip, I really don't care (or shouldn't) if some rich white person has adopted yet another non-white baby or whose winning what dancing/singing competition. But that's what you find everyone discussing......because that's all they cover on the morning news aside from who got shot the night before or what burned down.....or how to drive in the snow for the 15th time.

TED: The Rise of Women

Lawdeedaw says...

My after comment explained what type of respect I was talking about.

“Respect in America” meant that women have lost respect in American society. American culture, not self respect or such... And that meant both men and women, in America, have less respect for the penis-less sex (;)

Respect was given to women, and in other cultures is still alive and well. However, it should be noted that respect and equality are two different beasts. Joan of Arc is a hero highly regarded by men for her valor--but she was far from equal in most men's eyes when she lived. The Virgin Mary, another figure--but see if she could vote or own property. Queen Cleo--a better example of equality and respect, but still comes up short, etc. The good housewife, respected... if not controlled.

The problem, in my opinion, is that we equate freedom and equality with good. Neither are good, just perspectives. Freedom and equality bring much---but they are cold, hard tools.

It used to be that nations fought nations for the sole purpose of women and their virtue. Slight a noble’s wife and die... Nowadays, men just replace women, and run their nations anyways.

But to answer an unspoken question--I think both sexes lost respect in this commercialistic world. Consume, buy, consume, repeat until death. Big tits, no brains... = wealth... Funny part is, this has always been a male concept for the most part, but now women have a vivacious appetite for this greed too.. Sad...

>> ^peggedbea:
respect in what sense? respect of society in general? respect of men? self respect? respect from other women?
i disagree that "respect" has always been the general attitude directed at women. >> ^Lawdeedaw:
I think women have come a long way in the cutthroat world of men, and more power to them. My only question is--why? I think all people have focused far too much on possessions though, so this is not entirely gender based. However, I do wonder why people seek and find, only to seek for more when they know it brings them little.
I personally think the woman used to have one thing men could never match up to--respect. Now, we are both equal since the bar was lowered...

i spent 8 years in an institution with mostly female executives. my department and the departments i worked most closely with were managed entirely by women, and let me say... they were all fucking awful. this may or may not have anything to do with their gender. however, the most specific things they did that i found to be abhorrent in a leadership role were very stereotypically "female" like gossipping and babysitting every single tiny personal problem and coddling bad behavior.
of course, a fair and just society requires that you educate women and allow them to rise to whatever occasions they chose. but i also felt like the hospital would have been less of a horrible place to work if there were more men balancing us out.
men and women generally do bring a different set of traits and talents to the table. and there are still professions that attract more of one sex than the other, but i think, like with almost everything else, the answer is balance.
i was listening to a talk on orchestras and how just a few decades ago a female orchestra member was a rare thing, until they started doing blind auditions. proving that no matter what anyone said, there was definitely some gender bias going on. but i think it goes both ways. i'd be kind of leary to send my kids to an after school program run by men. even though i realize that the vast majority of you aren't pedos and that women can be abusive too, i'm still pretty sure i'd think twice about it. even though i realize that's pretty moronic of me.

Seriously, more power to the ladies. I'm ready for them to have their shot at the top. Still, men and women are the same species. They may bring different skills to the table at the upper sociopolitical echelons, but they still may be just as bad as men are at running the show. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Lol just saw this 2 weeks later. I have no idea what kind of day I was having to write all that. I was probably in a trolling mood as usual because that's way too many words for me. I'm still not even sure what I was writing about. Sorry if I offended you in any way.

I'm trying to make out what I meant but I see purpose and work and I fell asleep reading what I wrote so I'm sure everyone else did too. I probably got cut off in traffic by a fat guy eating Doritos and nothing makes me more angry than fat people. However, Doritos are delicious.

Consider me lightened up! Cheers.

Wow dude. I think you're takin' the interweb a bit too serious..

I can appreciate that you're opinionated and aren't afraid to show it. I'm the same.
Tho you were sort of ..inarticulate.. there so I'm not even sure what your point is.

I'll just say:

1- I'm neither a musician nor a composer, Gallowflak is.

2 - The Sun is a tabloid paper.

She's not art. She's professional eye candy for a trashy gossip periodical.

3 - By meaningful work, I mean work that gives you the feeling of "purpose".
As in, "I enjoy being a firefighter because I help save lives."

Remember the adage "If you love your work, you'll never work a day in your life"

Plus, are you really suggesting any human could sincerely feel like they'd fulfilled their purpose or potential in life..

..by sitting around, doing nothing all day?

Lighten up, mate.
Cheers. = P

In reply to this comment by Stu:
Some humans engage in work to give themselves meaning. They have my pity. The rest of us engage in work to provide for a family, the family giving the meaning. A lottery winner that sits around all day could have a ton of meaning to their life and never work a single day. Your argument the simplistic view of a philosophical debate that you have twisted to fit to try and convey your meaning here.

Also by the time her "appearance" diminishes she might have moved on to something else, or maybe by the time it happens she'll be too old to care anymore. I'm sure you can't predict this woman's or anyone else's life. And the self-justification of your own work is so transparent to a point of hilarity. Composer make music. Music is art. This women is part of photography. Photography is art. Are you implying you art> her art? Every musician on the radio is a composer. When you cure cancer you can pat yourself on the back.

Hello gentlemen: the lady you wish your lady was

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Gunrock, what you still fail to understand or acknowledge is..

HER JOB is to be EXCLUSIVE WANK MATERIAL in order TO ATTRACT MORE EYES to the gossip in the SUN tabloid.

She's not offering her general knowledge of a particular subject.
She's not offering technical skills in a particular discipline.
She's offering her tits and hips for display in exchange for money.

She's paid to objectify herself. Meanwhile, most of us are taught that objectifying other humans is immoral.

So it doesn't matter if she's a rocket scientist that dicovered a cure for cancer, aids, alcohol & nicotine addiction, world hungry, global warming AND the lost city of Atlantis..

..if her job & what everyone knows her for.. is givin' handies behind the local bowling alley.

[Edit: I'm not equating prostitution with modeling. But it's objectification all the same.]

>> ^MarineGunrock:

"... just recently finished college where she achieved four A levels and an AS in psychology, theater studies, media studies, critical thinking, and general studies. "
Obviously she's not stupid and has more to offer than just her goodies. Maybe she actually enjoys what she does?

Charlyne Yi Vs. TMZ

geo321 says...

While I'm sure they have a website their main thing is a television show which hundreds of thousands of people watch. I respect that you don't watch television(I'm guessing). I've got a television two meters (6 feet for Americans) away from me right now and I haven't turned it on in several months. The medium of television should become extinct. You're given 2/3 of what you want to watch and 1/3 corporate propaganda (also included is when you should/can watch it). Fuck television. I'll stop ranting now. >> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

Didn't know what TMZ was, so I looked it up. It's an AOL affiliated 'Celebrity Gossip' website. Pretty lame content within. Stop giving attention to these nobody's Charlyne, or at least mock the fact that they were created by the antithesis of cool: AOL.

A Piano Lesson With Oscar Peterson

If only talk show hosts these days actually cared to present information rather than meaningless babble and gossip to fill up a time slot. The only thing that I can think of that was anything close to this on a general television show (Discovery and TLC aside) would be Mister Rogers.

David Mitchell on Who Do You Think You Are?

gorillaman says...

Oh god damn you. I'm going to have to waste an hour of my morning tomorrow watching this shitty show for gossip whores who are for some reason interested in who someone's great-grandmother was just because they're a celebrity.

Stick a picture of David Mitchell to a turd and I would lick it.
