I’ve always thought it was a horrific decision, but not at all because of the immediate effects or massive death and destruction they caused in Japan….they fucked around and found out and deserved everything they got (and I was unaware the Russian Manchurian offensive timing, but it’s even more reason to not drop a second bomb or even a first if we knew it was coming).

I think it was horrific because we had no idea what the long term effects of even minimal fallout might be, and in fall/winter the jet stream runs from Japan directly to the highly populated West coast (which we knew well thanks to balloon bombs), so some portion of the fallout was guaranteed to fall on millions of US citizens. We lucked out that it wasn’t deadly a year later, and didn’t cause horrible birth defects with near zero exposure…we had no concrete idea at the time though just guesses, and still don’t have a clear idea of how much it contributed to higher cancer rates in the US.

Keep in mind, we had no idea what discussions the Japanese were having amongst themselves , so no idea how effective our bombs nor the Manchurian offensive were at persuading them to surrender. Hindsight is 2020, but at the time we were flying blind.

The uncertain risk there of possibly killing millions of ourselves or gimping or sterilizing or even Cronenberging entire future generations for the comparatively minimal convenience of not using conventional bombs, to me, is no where near worth it. There were just too many unanswered questions about too many factors. I’m sure the soldiers fighting at the time would feel differently.

Nice…disbarred and broke Giuliani has been fined $90000 in sanctions for refusing to participate in discovery and may get contempt charges and go to jail in the defamation case filed by Ruby Freeman and Shea Moss, who he slandered and libeled, lying to MAGA that there was some evidence they cheated the 2020 election by creating/counting fake votes (proven false) and eating ginger candy he claimed were thumbnail drives I suppose they were plugging into their mouths, leading to hundreds of death threats and serious damage to their reputations.

The judge has given him an order to produce documents in May but he claimed he couldn’t afford to, then said he found the money but still didn’t produce anything. Since he claims he has no money, and still isn’t participating, the plaintiffs claims will be considered to be established quite soon, maybe today…he’s going to lose by default and they’ll just move on to the damages portion of trial….just like the criminal nutjob Alex Jones that tried to not participate in his own trial for abusing the parents of murdered children and sending his nutjob army to attack the parents…didn’t work out so great for him…neither will attempting to hide his assets.

That’s a good indication Giuliani’s going to lose another case, which will cost him millions he doesn’t have, and he will be in contempt for refusing to participate.

Can Hollywood either write or at least read some new stories, for adults, and not keep rehashing or prequelling classics…please? There’s plenty of excellent, unique books out there to draw from, and tons of history that seems more fantastical than the silliest fiction. Read some mythology, or old school fairy tales. Ancient religions are more interesting, action packed, gory, and full of unexpected twists than the best action movie ever…and done well you could teach people while entertaining them.

D’oh! Twump lost another case, this time his attempt to remove his cases from New York State court to a federal court under a Trump judge, but his inept lawyers provided no evidence and only one witness that had no material information about the case and lost the appeal/motion. Can you remember the last time Trump’s team was successful in court? I can’t..certainly not after he was tossed out of office (except the one activist judge that was reversed and reprimanded).
