noam chomsky on social darwinism-clip from four horsemen

Yogi says...

>> ^marbles:

Chomsky: "Suppose it was discovered tomorrow that the greenhouse effects has been way underestimated, and that the catastrophic effects are actually going to set in 10 years from now, and not 100 years from now or something.
Well, given the state of the popular movements we have today, we’d probably have a fascist takeover-with everybody agreeing to it, because that would be the only method for survival that anyone could think of. I’d even agree to it, because there’s just no other alternatives right now."
I'm looking forward to the documentary, but Chomsky is just a willing dupe with the same agenda as the "rich and powerful" he preaches against.

Uh huh...having followed his career and actually UNDERSTOOD his arguments, I'd have to call you a fucking idiot.

Well said Deano. Don't forget Fox 'News' and the BSkyB takeover that will let him dictate the message to 40% of (dumbass) brits, or the murdoch cancer spread to asia.
A british judge with the power to summon and hang is going to get a crack at him if his right wing political friends can be shoved out of the way, so we'll see if he can be beaten. Lets hope they can find all his Horcruxs.

Thanks so much for reporting this. I managed to get a screenshot and have taken care of it. At first I thought I took care of it a couple of months ago when I wrote this:

*****,

I have disabled the takeover code from ****. Can you please make sure this does not appear on VideoSift again.

The results are a train wreck on our front page - shrinking our actual content down and basically making the site unsuable. There are not even any frequency caps. Poor execution, and our visitors are pissed. http://wtf.videosift.com/talk/OK-Ok-Ok

But then tonight I was all:

****,

Your takeover reskinning is breaking our site again. I thought we cleared this up last time and these would not appear again. (see history) Please see the attached screenshot. I have removed all **** media from VideoSift until you can reassure me these won't show up again.

President Obama's Statement on Osama bin Laden's Death

chipunderwood says...

For RedSky:-"If this was purely a GOP deal, then to revert on it this far into a Democratic presidency seems entirely arbitrary."

Your statement infers that there is some fundamental difference in either party (a wholly critical and objective look at their workings reveals a common bond and lineage merging at the inception of The U.S.) All I have seen from studying the past 100 years of world affairs and living in almost half of those is one war after another as empires are shaped, with the arms to affect these being produced by the same families or now, corporations. This is a form of genocide if you will or perhaps eugenics would be better terminology to use to describe it.

for YOGI:-I'd venture to guess that if you were to suddenly know those who were working behind the scenes to affect sudden and sweeping population control measures or who have been slowly eliminating the mental capacities and health of billions of people through chemical and pharmaceutical manipulation, you just might need to purchase some explosives to carry out the task of killing, quite a few Wealthy Deranged People. (WDP's)

We are all being duped.
Try to wrap your heads around the idea that what you think you know, is all wrong.

Here's the good news-Everything is unfolding as it is and the universe has a long time to go before it collapses in on itself or falls into some black hole or whatever it's supposed to do. Smoke a bowl.

"Ding dong, Bin Laudanums' dead, ding dong, the fascist bitch is deeeeeeead!
Bring a piton for his head, ding dong, the Muslim witch is deeeeeeeeead!"

It happened on Obama's watch, "OOOOOOOOOhhh! Now those who will have to vote for the guy who killed Osamas' numbers will grow! NEWSFLASH!!!! SOME of them will be so-called republicans, other so-called democrats. ALLLLLL OF THEM WILL BE BEING SOLD A BILL OF GOODS to ensure a relatively tidy corporate takeover of the whole damn globe.

Keep watching your televisions- sorry, telescreens.

Economy Professors Debate Debt and Recession

ghark says...

What amazes me is how there are so many people with considerable influence in America that can do nothing against the corporatist takeover. I would have thought at some point, some individual with some inside connections would have stepped in and whispered in Obama's ear - hey, that's enough now.

By the way, who should be considered the true culprits here, the lack of transparency at the trilateral commission/Bilderberg meetings, the CEO's that head the most influential corporations, do we look directly at the campaign contributions and point fingers? It seems like it's quite difficult to pin it down to any one list of name's or companies, but it seems that such a list should be made, else there will be no place to start when it comes to making fixes.

Imagine If All Atheists Left America

gwiz665 says...

No, I don't think it is.

Christianity actively "filters" its content to only portray the nice parts; the golden rule, be nice to others, don't kill; that sort of thing, but it hides the gay bashing, slavery, misogyny and all the other bad stuff.

It has an intentional consequence which is sinister. Libertarianism, to follow up on your example, is on the other hand not intentionally evil, it has unintended evil consequences, such as corporate takeover of a "free" market, disregard for people's wellbeing when compared to the money-focus and so on.

Pure libertarianism is bad because it is too naive and thinks to highly of people to know and act "smart" and to make the right choices by themselves. At its core libertarianism seems like a good idea, to each his own, make your own luck, free markets etc. but when you think of the consequences, then it's a bad idea taken to its extreme.

Christianity is bad because it sells itself as something its not. It is explicitly bad when you look at its holy book, the idea of hell and redemption is bad, and it tries desperately to hide its bad sides as "part of the times" or to essentially pick and choose what it is. At its very core, even if you pick and choose like crazy, the idea of God makes no sense. You only have to read the bible to become an atheist.

Christianity is sinister, in that it guises itself as a good thing "do unto others etc", but in reality it is a means for people to control other people - not just enslave them, but control their minds, make them willing slaves, and that to me is even more scary than just being oppressed.

That's kinda a generic fill in the blank rhetoric for any ideology you don't like. For example:

Libertarianism is sinister, in that it guises itself as a good thing "you own the product of your labor etc", but in reality it is a means for people to control other people - not just enslave them, but control their minds, make them willing slaves, and that to me is even more scary than just being oppressed.

It's basically true of any moral philosophy. For people on the outside, they're transparent schemes to get people to lash themselves to the yoke. From the inside, it's a guiding principle that gives their lives meaning.

Regarding power points for dead fixes (Geek Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

Incentives drive the world. Even the most liberal people know this, that's why there's social engineering. "Fat tax" is just an incentive to buy healthier food, because it's cheaper. Smoking tax is just an incentive to stop smoking and to rake in money. All those social engineering "Do as we want you to do" taxes are incentives. They understand. They just apply it poorly.
>> ^blankfist:

Incentives? You mean like greed? What's going to stop the corporations from taking over VideoSift once they've amassed a thousand power points and hire an army and kills us all?!
No, I think we should force people to fix their fair share of dead videos under threat of expulsion. It's the only protection we have from a corporate takeover.

Deutsche Boerse to take over New York Stock Exchange?

notarobot says...

You're right, a merger is not a takeover. The Deutsche stock exchange buying a controlling share in the NYSE is a takeover.

"Deutsche Boerse AG is in advanced talks to buy NYSE Euronext in an all-stock transaction that would create the world’s biggest exchange operator. (...) Deutsche Boerse will own about 59 percent to 60 percent of the joined entity." /source.

I am not calling for Palins head, nor anyone else's. The fact is though that while there are crazy people in this world, and crazy people will always do crazy things, public speeches encouraging revolution and violence (even if it is indirectly) create an environment in which these people have a much easier time rationalizing such things. Even non-crazy people who are just fed up and getting angrier and angrier at what they are being told repeatedly is the tyrannical takeover of their country will eventually reach the point where violent lashing out seems the only alternative.
This doesnt mean everything has to become all "PC" or whatever, thats just another swing in the extremist direction.

And I'm not saying words have zero effect, I'm saying "they're just words!"

A lot of people here seem dangerously close to arguing for large scale censorship, particularly when it comes to those other people who are always wrong.

I'd expect a phrase like "society failed this man" would resonate with a bunch of liberals and, instead, you all go off hunting the arctic dodo.
Ultimately, I'm not so gung-ho on following the blame trail. Jared Lee Loughner did this and Palin is no more responsible for his actions than John Romero and Marilyn Manson are for the actions of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.
Palin makes a lot of comments in poor taste (not to mention poor grammar, poor spelling, and poor intelligence) but it's not possible to speak in a way that's guaranteed not to set off someone who is completely detached from reality.
Calling for Palin's head is the same sort of fear-mongering the Republicans are making a living off of right now and all you hypocrites don't seem to agree a whole lot with them when they do it.
