Morgan Freeman On Black History Month
I don't know about you guys but I appreciate black people and culture. All of my favorite music was copped from a black man take for instance the original dub music which was called "Blue Beat" into the genius that is Lee "Scratch" Perry which was copped by every little white guy with a strat and suit to create shit-ska, or even much before that - Bukka White slapping his steel string guitar which was copped by many a mountain crooner - Can't forget the crazy zany and otherworldly Sun Ra Arkhestra of which many a neo-post-rock project wish and try to copulate; or how about the little-known noise/trance/congotronic Congolese group I rip off a lot named Konono No. 1? And I mean I didn't even begin to speak about Ethiopian music from the 60-70s (check out Ethiopiques or just try on Muhmoud Ahmed - f'n amazing).
But, outside of music even though there has been a black history month for a long ass time now kids just don't understand Dr. King! Listen to his damn speeches, oh young and flighty ones - he didn't just speak about his dreams he spoke about "RADICAL ECONOMIC RECONSTRUCTION"! As history repeats itself it is evident to remember to pay attention to your local black community; they know what is going on!
How Do You Pronounce Your Screenname? (Howto Talk Post)
eh-vile dee-ska mon
More complicated than it looks, but hey, that's how I pronounce it.
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - Pride of Lions
There are people who don't like Ska, and those people are wrong. Objectively wrong.
Bob Marley - Iron Lion Zion
Something snapped in my head that makes me hate Bob Marley now. I think it's because of the ska thing.
Manu Chao with Les Ogres de Barback - La Ventura
I love Manu Chao, but I've never heard of Les Ogres de Barback. This really works. I love how he's comfortable singing English, French and Spanish.
Ska! (Been awhile.) Damn, I love these genre blenders.
Ska Cubano - Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
*kill this old one and let it try again as http://www.videosift.com/video/Ska-Cubano-covers-TMBGs-Istanbul-Not-Constantinople
Sonseed - "Jesus is my friend"
Jesus touched me down inside ... he always gets his man ... he loves me when I waste my time by writing silly songs.
Jesus ska, now I've seen it all.
Who says Christians can't rock out.....
Christian ska?
Were we ever this young? (Blog Entry by youdiejoe)
>> ^rottenseed:
I was gonna say I dig the ska-checkered vans. Were you a rudie ydj?
That would imply that I was cool enough to know what rudies were at the time No, I was just your standard southern "new wave" misfit.

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)
Jake here, 27 this week, Pennsylvania.
working on my Ph.D. in Genetics studying Herpes Simplex Virus 1. About two years to go, then post-doc work, then hopefully teaching at a small college or working for the CDC in the field/over-seas. No ropes tying me down right now except my will to finish this whole grad school thing.
I like WoW and some other games. Just bought and finished Portal in the last 2 hours and loved it. I tend to read Sci-Fi and Fantasy mostly... other-worldly stuff, escapism in other words. (Currently reading: The Chronicles of Amber, The song of Albion, Paradise Lost, Why I am a Christian, Romans.) I LOVE scrabble and play it online regularly. http://www.isc.ro/ I like fishing/golfing/martial arts/
Play piano and sax, learning guitar. Played in or directed 6 jazz bands, 1 jazz quartet, 2 concert bands, 1 marching band, 3 contemporary church bands, 1 dixieland band, 1 pit orchestra, 1 stage orchestra, 2 ska bands, and an assortment of short-lived, one-time other this and that. DJed trance, drum'n'bass, and deep house for number of years in college. Produced some trance and Drum'n'bass
I get one social night a week most weeks and I go to a local pub/restaurant Wednesday night with a group of good friends for "trivia night." We almost always win. Our trivia guy is obsessed with the Peanuts cartoons.
I'm moderate, conservative, libertarian. I think right wingers are too afraid of change...and a tad too cold and impractical. I think left wingers are more DEgressive than they are PROgressive...and a tad too whiny and naive. I think our government is far too large, too nosey, too expensive, and should declassify about 90% of all that crap they have stored away in some salt mine somewhere. Also, Block Votes are bullshit.
I'm Christian...made the real choice in college. I'm not Catholic, but I don't think they're unsaved. I respect Judaism and Israel most of the time. I respect my Islamic friends, but not radical, imperialistic clerics and their followers. I have Buddhist and Hindu friends as well, but they hardly practice.

!!!
I chose this new avatar because I spend 90% of my waking hours around academics and "thinkers" who don't do much else in life and really don't get out enough.
Final thought: The internet needs a new meme STAT.
Goldfinger - Here in your bedroom
I was so upset when I got this album during my little Ska phase only to learn that the rest of it sucked and was nothing like their 1 hit.
The Gladiators (in studio)
it's amazing how that small island made such an impact on music. I don't mean just the generation of ska, rocksteady and reggae from the mimicry of rock from the states and the UK, but from dub which is the grandfather of the modern day DJ/turntable combination.
