Acronyms are a means of reducing the amount of effort required to convey something, right? Being lazy enough to say lolomgwtfroflwaffle, but interested enough in linguistic convention to capitalize, seems inconsistent. Does that matter? IDGaF

The closest I can think of as a completely positive spin on the future was 2010. Since it was all Cold War bullshit but the scientists worked together and that whole THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS EXPECT EUROPA ATTEMPT NO LANDING THERE.

Star Trek is sorta the gold standard of positive futures for humanity. It's really the only sci-fi universe in which humanity really seems to have advanced as a culture.
Most other stories assume we'll be essentially the same as we are now, or worse.
Also, a Mars colonization story wouldn't be that hard. Just adapt Kim Stanley Robinson's Red/Green/Blue Mars trilogy.
Considering how conservative Hollywood is these days, you'd think they'd have started to do adaptations of some Hugo Award-winning sci-fi novels that're newer than, say, 1970 or so.
Even sticking to apocalyptic themes, there are some really good ones that haven't been tapped yet. It's almost a crime that they haven't made a movie out of Larry Niven's Footfall, for example.

Yesterday, I missed Irma Thomas' birthday. Today is the birthday of Tony Iommi, John Frankenheimer, Nicolaus Copernicus, Smokey Robinson, Karen Silkwood, Jeff Daniels, Falco, and closer to our generation, Justine Bateman. My queue is full, so you should do something about these 2/19 births.

Steel (1979)

A.J. Bakunas died doubling for George Kennedy in a fall from the Kincaid Towers in Lexington, Kentucky, for the movie "Steel". Bakunas had successfully performed a fall from the ninth floor of the construction site, but when he learned that Dar Robinson had broken his record high fall for a non-movie related publicity stunt, Bakunas returned to perform the fall from the top of the 300-foot (91 m) construction site. Bakunas performed the fall expertly, but the airbag split and Bakunas was killed.

Love Serenade (1996)

During the filming of a scene on a grain silo, stuntman Collin Dragsbaek (doubling actor George Shetsov) died when he fell onto a faulty airbag.

World Wrestling Federation event

Professional wrestler Owen Hart died in May 1999's WWE/WWF PPV Over the Edge 1999 after he was scheduled to glide down from the rafters for a ring entrance. This stunt was botched and Owen fell 78 ft (24 m) to the ring below.
