TF2: How to play the Scout (Part 1)

Crosswords says...

Some of the people he demonstrated against seemed to be less than competent players, but good stuff nonetheless. I've got great movement with a scout, unfortunately I can't aim with poop with them. I think I'm fooled by my own erratic movement.

My favorite class is pyro, and scouts are indeed annoying. Generally they're pretty hard pressed to get in close to me without getting a taste of flame, and as soon they're out of range you gotta pull out the shottie. Even if its not enough to kill them, you'll certainly send them running for a medic or medkit and out of your hair. Still one or two point blank scatter shots can end your day pretty quick.

TF2 : How to Play the Spy

AnimalsForCrackers says...

Definitely a good guide for starting spies, by far my favorite class, of which I have the most points in my Best Moments. Just remember, these are rules of thumb, not written in stone by any means. Spies can do some amazing things given the opportunity. Very situational class and spotting your opportunity before the window of that opportunity closes is half the battle. Like he says, cut your losses if the plan fails to execute. Also, it's a pretty good idea to quickly change disguises after you flee from someone who's spotted you, once you find some cover. I tend to automatically disguise as the last person I've killed to avoid being spotted as a dupe. There are those who pay attention to who's dead and whatnot though so even then it's not a guaranteed strat. You can sap a level 1 SG from the front without much trouble after taking out the engi as well...any higher than that and they push you back real fast. Don't underestimate the Magnum either, many a time has that saved my life after a failed attack and the enemy moves out of range or even fleeing from a p'oed pyro.

Happy tactical espionage'ing!

Pen Spinner Gets the Shock of His Life

MINK says...

not fake... this is exactly how exsoviets approach dangerous situations... with their bare hands and a total lack of fear.

so maybe this particular video was somehow rigged with very convincing pyro but it is a scene repeated across the former soviet union daily.

conversation i had in lithuania:
"shall we turn the electricity off?"
"no, it will be ok, the screwdriver handle is plastic."
"riiiiiiiggghhht." exit MINK

NIST engineer denies the existence of Molten Steel

jwray says...

I spent years as a pyro in boy scouts, so I know what I'm talking about.

I can make a fire hot enough to melt aluminum cans with just charcoal a few coffee cans with the tops and bottoms removed, and a steel grate. In a large-scale fire you could get hotter by pre-heating the air intake. Then you could pre-heat the air intake to the inner pre-heating fires and make the center even hotter... and so on in as many stages as you want until your inner apparatus melts. I suppose this sort of thing could occur naturally too.

The firefighters who thought they saw molten steel had no way of knowing it wasn't molten aluminum, anyway. Glowing molten metals look the same. There was a huge amount of combustible material in the towers, like paper, furniture, cubicle walls, etc etc. The maximum temperature a fire can reach depends on its structure, and the temperature and oxygen content of the air coming into it.

F-15 Strike Fighter Bombing Run

CrushBug says...

To me, that just looked like an F-15 flying by the ground and someone on the ground setting of some pyro. If this was an airshow, that's how they do it. They don't use live ordanace around the public.
