Moviebob reviews Pacific Rim
.. it felt like watching a live-action cartoon in the very best way. Ron Perlman's character design and the loving shots of his shoes are straight out of a Madhouse anime (Animatrix, REDLINE).
I might potentially go back to see this one a second time. I hope it has a surge at the box-office..
Pacific Rim - Official Wondercon Trailer #2
It's a trailer dude. Let's check out the film first! Then we may begin the true judgement upon Del Toro (a SPANISH director making this Americanized film), as we have in the past: he's contributed a good deal to film that is both good and bad.
Also, he helped with the writing, so I wouldn't jump to the "blame the writers" crap. If it sucks, blame the man himself because he has his hands in a lot of it. And he continues to use Ron Perlman in his films, which is a plus because he's used Perlman even before we knew who he was. Or Del Toro for that matter.
Ultimately I look forward to seeing his movies, even if they're not all greats. He wrote all the Hobbit films, though maybe that misses the mark with you, as well.
I'd recommend Cronos, Devil's Backbone, and Pan's Labyrinth. Those are great flicks, though on the horror side of the spectrum.
And ultimately, let's be clear on this writer/director/producer: Not a run of the mill American jockey.
That wasn't my intent. I only wish that those who provide our entertainment were allowed to represent and function at the peak of our potential.
Though I'm sure I've failed in this as we all do from time to time, for a long time I've made my mantra to be "the moment you profess your intelligence/greatness/worth to be greater than another, the instant you lose any trace of it, along with any reality the proclamation might have had".
Pacific Rim - Official Wondercon Trailer #2
Why the two pilots? It seems kinda pointless.
But on the other hand, Del Toro, Ron Perlman and Stringer Bell? Sold.
Dirty Laundry - Thomas Jane returns as "The Punisher"

Why is nobody freaking out about Ron Freaking Perlman being in this?"!
Also, that's one durable bottle of Jack.
It's a special bottle JD produced during the LA riots.
NOT A DROP MUST BE SPILLED!!! Unless it's to, you know, barbeque someone.

Well that sounds like fun Speculating wildly, since I totally lack the experience for an informed comment, I would expect that the ipad might be a little like water colour painting, in that a looser approach and taking what you get might work well but if you try to get every pixel exactly right you would be better off with another medium... and also that a few stray splotches or rough edges might not hurt the final product. Do you use a big touch pad on your main computer?
As for what they were smoking in the 70s, well in my parts it was only a few extremely mellow hippies in the hills, smoking so much weed that they hadn't realised the 60s were over In terms of animation though, I wonder if the 70s were the result of digesting the trippy LSD inspired experiments of the 60s and reacting to them, without perhaps actually being chemically enhanced. I wasn't yet 10 when the 70s ended though, so it's yet more wild speculation on my part.

Hey thanks! What a blast from the past (what were they smoking in the 70's?!) This reminds me of another whacky animator chick, Janet Perlman. Fun stuff.
I've been away from my computer way more than usual -- still checking in to watch sone of the new stuff now & then. I got an IPad 2, which I've been trying to learn digital painting on... It's fun but a little tricky so far.

Fusionaut posted this 70s Sally Cruikshank animation, which I thought you might like (and, as you don't seem to have been around, you might otherwise miss it!) http://videosift.com/video/Make-Me-Pyschic

Why do we have to beg videos like this one? Jesus Christ.
Maybe next time if you add an election tag or atheism tag it will go to the front automatically. >_>
I must have missed this one but if added to my Great Unsifted Bravo Playlist I'll get them through, and this one would have been sifted ages ago, I can guarantee you that.

Itzhak Perlman talks about why he opposes Prop 8
Well put. Prop 8 is Hate. I'm begging my fellow Californians to send a strong message to the religious conservatives who preach hatred instead of universal love, to join with me and enlightened thinkers such as Mr. Perlman, to reject the notion of "Separate but equal." "Separate but equal" was already proven to be a fallacy by the Supreme court - Separate inherently means unequal.
No to Hate. No on Eight.
