You've got to give it up for Neil Peart. He is a legend and a great influence to any drummer that grew up in the 70's/80's/early 90's. That said, there has always been criticism of his lack of spontaneity. Most drummers will change up parts and fills from one performance to the next, but Neil Peart always plays the exact same parts, fills and open solos. Of course they are well composed and appropriate to Rush's elaborate songs, so there is a good case to be made for the strict consistency.

@RadHazG - Most of the time I feel the same way - and I play drums for a living. The problem is that it is difficult to create a moving musical experience with unpitched percussion instruments. Most of the time, drum solos end up being disjointed displays of virtuosity, which are technically impressive but lacking from an aesthetic standpoint.

There are some great drummers out there who really know how to emote. Elvin Jones, Jack Dejohonette, Vinnie Colliuta, Terry Bozio (Zappa knew how to pick his drummers) and Peter Erskine are some of my favorites in this category.

I don't agree with the statement that The US is giving a giant aid package to Egypt and looking the other way. I doubt the US is afraid of the Egytian security forces using "sticks, knives, swords, and Molotov cocktail's", as the main crowd control tools of water canons, percussion grenades, gas canisters, tanks etc. are USA made and USA bought for them. President Mubarak does the bidding of the US, even when the population strongly disagree, and if the population start to disagree physically, that's what the 1.3 billion dollars of military/security aid helps to fend against. The US supports puppet strong men over populations they don't trust.

That Lungcore show had this band with four tubas, three trombones, a couple of twins playing Baritone saxes, and a dude blowing into some kind of barrel with a weather balloon coming out of it!

ok, I can understand your point, but I didn't interpret him to be re-creating the song, I saw it as more of an addition to the song, like percussion. Following that line of thought, the method by which he chose to add that percussion line is (overly) complicated, but it's what makes it interesting

-edit - sort of like if you complimented a song by adding an original amazing drum track. The drums by themselves don't sound like a lot, but in combination with a pre-existing song, both might be enhanced.

I adore this soundtrack. Steve is known for his percussion and it's shown with some memorable tracks. You might of also heard this song being played in the new Avatar Trailer, except it was taken from the extended score version (2CDs) and the track was called 'I'm Lincoln (film version)'. Both versions are very similar.

I also recommend Sector 6, the ending rising climax is amazing.

Sorry, I just love movie scores, and movie music in general.
