I have been accused of racism(anyone against obama racist?) (Politics Talk Post)

longde says...

Define "race card". What is the benefit of a white man (olberman) to play the race card?

I sure don't see how it benefits Obama to 'play' it. His major problem has been white resentment. In fact, I don't know anyone outside of media figureheads that benefit from accusing people of racism when it's unwarranted.

Rachel Maddow - Billionaires For Wealthcare At 9/12 Rally

Considering the hundreds of thousands in attendance, I'd say her criticism is both specious and inaccurate. Then again, this IS MadCow so it isn't surprising... I lump her, Olberman, Hannity, O'Reilly, and Beck in the same bucket of noisy infotainers who are more interested in venting than informing.

According to estimates provided by the Washington, D.C. Fire Department there were 70,000 people.

Nice try though Pennypacker. What's about venting vs. informing?

Olbermann Slamming Glenn Beck Again

gwiz665 says...

I'm getting Tired as Hell of Olberman's kindergarten variety show. Yes, Glen Beck is insane, do correct him at every turn. But this is like a terrible, terrible Daily Show. It's not news, it's a travesty.

Fox News and segments like these are exactly the same. Ugh. Rise above it, Keith, you're better than this.

TDS - Glenn Beck's Operation

It seems to me kind of like 18 months ago Glenn Beck got stuck in traffic and built a show around it, and now he's making a show around not letting the government change our highway system. Really not as hypocritical as this clip might lead one to believe.
Its obvious anyone on TV every night can be made to look like a fool by isolating some pieces of their shows and playing them side by side. Jon Stewart (who I like a lot) is fortunate nobody really views him as someone who's opinion matters in any serious debate(yes, I know a huge percentage of people get their "news" from him) or he could see himself in a similar smear.

Are you kidding? So a person on TV with millions of fans following his every word has no obligation to be truthful, or at least consistent with his message?

I suppose that in the infamous "Obama has a deep-seated hatred for white people, but oh no, I'm not saying he doesn't like white people" statement, in which Beck contradicts himself within the timeframe of 2 minutes, he was being an upstanding journalist with impeccable integrity?

When a person on TV has to add a disclaimer to every statement he makes, saying he "doesn't really believe" it, he should be called on it. Few examples:

The Rise of Right Wing Hate

bluecliff says...

>> ^Stormsinger:
Can't this also apply to Olbermann? A person who has a daily segment titled "Worst Person In The World"

Does he depict them as less than human? Does he call for them to be strung up? Does he say, when one of his targets is killed, "He got what he deserved?"
I think there's a definite difference between Olbermann and the wingnuts.

No he doesn't. But than that's why I some like right wingers. They SAY what they want to do to people. The knives of liberals come out later than those of the conservative nuts. That's the reason I'm sometimes amused at the sheer idiocy of Fox News, while people like Olberman and Rachel Madow often just scare the shit out of me.

Keith Olbermann's "Worst Person in The World"

I'm getting a little, nay A LOT sick of Olberman advocating that Homeland Security needs to pay people like Scheuer, Beck, Limbaugh et al for their nutbar views that Bin Laden or his ilk need to blow up part of the United States in order to allow a more thorough police state to be set up.

If you are advocating for the free speech rights of the likes of Beck and Limbaugh, or anybody else who wishes that the USA would be attacked by terrorists, you have truly lost your way.

For Olberman's part, it smacks of hypocrisy and poor consistency of thought to say that in order to prevent a Police State from being set up, the Police State must visit those who advocate for a Police State.

Michael Jackson Pronounced Dead - June 25 2009

notarobot says...

Thanks, Rougy. It is for Olberman's comments that I posted this particular news story. It's the only one I've seen that tried to give context to the Jackson''s life. The others just lay down the facts as if being the first to announce the story was the most important thing to do.

Olberman's words give pause, and make the man into a human, not just a fact to report on.

Obama Bashes Fox News

jdbates says...

I watched the fox live newsdesk and it is about as normal as the other networks, But, the fact that they leave the fox news logo up during this show and several others, which are really opinion piece's. Fe.. O reily, hannity. I think that makes some people think it is news. To be fair and balanced, analagy intended. olberman seems a little hotheaded as well. I can;t even watch these shows anymore. To stay in a positive mental attitude I definetly avoid these shows. They just complain all the time, they are meaningless to any positive growth in this country. When things do get better for the country, they won't have contributed in any way.

Shepard Smith Calls Out "Frightening" FOX E-mailers

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

The majority of posters on videosift seem to regard Fox News as non-journalistic and non-professional (including myself). This video is nothing new. What is new, is they are admitting the sort of individuals who email. The ones that are very hateful, vengeful, and psychopathic. The ones who could make Oklahoma City Bombing a cherry bomb in comparison. Fox News, has been goading on this sort of individuals since before GWB was president.

And do you hold the same opinion of CNN? MSNBC? ABC News? CBS? The AP? Newswire? Newsweek? TIME? The point I'm making is that FOX is not alone here. Every "news" agency today is overflowing with the exact same level of hate, vitriol, slime, bias, and lack of professionality. Why are you cheering a vid that wants FOX to tone it down, while at the exact same time you guys cheer at the EXACT same stuff when it comes from Olberman, or Maddow, or all the other guys that are 'stoking' hatred?

All during the Bush presidency the same stuff was coming from the neolibs and the other liberal news sites. It was angry, it was bitter, it was hateful, it was vile, it was coarse, it was despicable. And yet, that stuff gets top votes on the Sift. Why is that? The only possible explanation is that you guys are bunch of flaming hypocrites. In one breat you want to shut down Fox news for being jersk. In the other you are giving a BJ to other news channels for doing the same thing.

Pathetic. Typical, and pathetic.

Bill O'Reilly Goes After 'David After Dentist' Video

KamikazeCricket says...

>> ^HollywoodBob:
I can't help but thinking that the only exploitation of David's trip was Bill-O making a stink about it.
It'd be one thing to blame the father of exploitation if he was giving the kid drugs in order to film his reactions. But chronicling an innocent experience and then sharing it with the world because it's funny isn't exploitation. Where was Bill-O's outrage when Bob Saget was hosting a show made entirely of these sorta home videos?
I'm starting to think Keith Olbermann's suggestion of quarantining Fox News isn't such a bad idea. I wonder how much we could get donated to build a FOX news jamming satellite and put it into orbit? What am I saying, it'd be cheaper to just build one capable of vaporising all FOX news-tards. Then when their cast of loons were eliminated we could retask it to blasting Rush Limbaugh off the planet as well. Well maybe not Rush, I don't know if there's enough energy in the sun to blast his fat ass off this rock.

Careful. That kind of language could be interpreted as incitement to violence. Exactly the thing that Olberman wants Fox quarantined for. Besides, if you start that whats stopping the right wing nutz from building their own to take down all the pinko liberals? Then you have satellite wars and it just turns into a big mess. No, its best to eliminate them through not buying their shitty product, which is lies and deceit.

I just wanted to drop a note thanking you for rational discussion. It was pleasant. We don't agree on everything and that's just fine. Glad to have you here.

I have a tendency to leave snarky and smartass responses. I use my navy time as the scapegoat. I'd like to apologize for my past responses and will keep my responses to you civil from now on.

Have a good day!

In reply to this comment by Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
You obviously feel a connection to the discourse on videosift... in a way that makes me think you are an alt of someone on here, or perhaps even the new BillO.

I am no one's alt. I enjoy watching videos. I like funny ones, old "Whose Line" clips, and other stuff. However, to my dismay, Videosift (and others) have been co-opted by far-left neolibs who use sites as an increasingly private sounding board for negativity towards anything they don't like.

Case in point. A solid 30% of the vids here today are liberally slanted garbage. Between Bill Maher, Olberman, Madcow, atheism/creationism threads, and so forth there are at least 5+ 'neolib' threads on the top 15 at any given time. A strange trait for a 'fair, tolerant, and balanced' population, eh?

These neolib threads are typically far-left screeds. They are vapid in content. They eggregiously violate logic. They are blatantly baised. Intellectually, they aren't fit for the dung heap, let alone the 'top 15' list. And yet there they are. Every day. And the comments are universally filled to the brim of what can only be described as neolib cheerleaders bleating about how great they are, and trampling any different perspective.

I lean conservative on many issue, but liberal on others. Above all I detest the practice of presenting only one very biased side of an argument and then acting as if it one has made a valid point. It is an odious tendency, that results only in stroking the egos of its participants.

Therefore I feel (occasionally) that there is intellectual value to injecting a reasoned, logical, non-profane perspective into a topic that would otherwise be the metaphysical equivalent of a neolib circle-jerk.

I simply find that I am - sadly - the only person on the sift who is able to provide this much-needed counterbalance in a way that is not inflammatory at its face value. QM is too profane and 'angry'. I prefer the cool balm of reason, logic, and common sense.
