I'm perplexed that no-one here is pointing out that the original PKD story was really short.... and had alien mice, and was called 'We can remember it for you wholesale'. The Total Recall movie took the tiny nugget and spun a whole thing from it.

Depending on whether this is more based on the movie or the short story it can veer off in all sorts of directions.

But being that it's directed by the Underworld guy and Beckansale is in it, it'll be crap

Once, meeting some friends in Melbourne city one night, they'd stopped off at a place called Lord of the Fries and gotten some "chick'n" nuggets. And they swore blind that it was real chicken no matter how much I tried to convince them that Lord of the Fries is 100% vegetarian. Mind you they were drunk.

I had one of their "burgers" before noticing the big sign saying there vegetarian. No sir, I don't like it. Good chips and fantastic sauces, though. Had an limited time "Obama Sauce" which was jalapeno, ketchup and pineapple. Was awesome!

I'll take this over the celluloid diarrhea that Hollywood has been pumping out for the last two decades. Yes, occasionally there is a golden nugget of corn, but that's been the exception, not the rule.

yahtzee is becoming an ever increasing twat. So MW3 and BF3 are THE worst games of 2011?? REALLY? What exactly is so bad about them? That they are sequels? That they make tons of money and are not "original"? They also have great sound design, great graphics (at least BF3), solid single player campaigns (although BF3 still trails behind) and great multiplayer gameplay (even though, contrary to what most people believe, they are two very different types of game. One is twitchy, fast and completely unrealistic, the other focuses more on cooperation, realism, and overall giant maps).

I understand perfectly why he may dislike both MW3 and BF3, but disliking something doesn't automatically make it the worst of something.

By Yathzee's unbelievably moronic standards, both MW3 and BF3 are incomparably worse than Call of Juarez. Which, by the way he somehow forgot out of the list of the worst games. Think about that nugget for a second. Not to mention MANY other shitty games (and shitty by all standards. Bad graphics, bad gameplay, bad sound, buggy, etc).

i now have a clearer picture in what you were trying to convey,and if i have your stance correct:

1.you found this video to be a glorification of drug addiction and not the religious aspects.

i disagree and your previous comments do also.i disagree that this was a glorification of any kind but rather ones mans courage to put himself out there and explain where he was and what helped him walk away still breathing.nobody goes around and broadcasts how they are an addict and have lost control of their lives.i feel this video is more of public service for those who may suffer and silence and feel they are alone,which is quite common among addicts.we can disagree on this...our perceptions just differ.as for the religious aspects may i just point to your last paragraph.notice anything?

you are free to chastise this man for his conversion to christianity and putting his recovery on giving himself over to jesus.that is not only your choice but your right but please dont say your premise was not influenced by the religious aspects when it obviously was.you said so in your own words.

i can agree that "recovery" is also an apt term to use but it does not convey in a complete sense what "redemption" conveys.
you dont "recover" from guilt and shame.
you are "redeemed" and this does not have to have anything to do with religion but it does has EVERYTHING to do with brutal honesty.to have the courage to face oneself with eyes wide open and accept the choices...AND consequences.this is a process that needs to happen to start the healing process which can only begin with forgiveness.
to forgive oneself.
this does not,by implication,necessarily mean that jesus has to come in to your life.
or buddha.
or allah.
or the great spirit.
but usually for addicts it is something outside themselves.this could be a person you greatly admire and respect which could help fascillitate a similar outcome.

why would somebody find a video where a man admits,on VIDEO,how he almost killed himself due to his addictions and lost that which was most dear,and his consequent "recovery",be perceived as a bad thing?
and the only conclusion i could come up with was the "jesus" factor as being the bitter pill.
just look at the views to votes ratio.you are not exactly alone my friend.

would you feel the same way if this man had started recovery from meeting a distinguished scientist? or philosopher?
who helped him see the world differently and hence gave him the courage to face what he needed to face?
i presume (falsely maybe) that you and many on this site would have cheered this man for his courage but since this man gave his life to jesus and credits jesus for his recovery he is relegated to the silly bin.

this is mainly where my "nobody can do it alone" comment was inspired.because a junkie cannot get clean by him/herself.their self loathing is too dominant and the desire to numb themselves from their own past too strong an impulse to ignore.

so when you see a junkie you may (rightly so) see a person who has made some bad choices.maybe you hope they will seek treatment and get better but they need to accept responsibility.
i agree with that, but you judge them while not understanding THEY have already judged themselves and their judgment is so much harsher than you could ever imagine.they believe themselves to be less than nothing and execute that verdict with a raging self-hatred everytime they use.which then becomes a never-ending cycle of guilt and shame.

i attempt to break that cycle for those who seek to become healthy and whole again.sometimes i succeed but more often i fail.
so if jesus is a part of somebody finding the strength and courage to face their demons then who are we to judge?

Enjoying a meal is more than just taste, it's sight and smell, texture in your mouth and also the subjective attitude towards the meal.

There's a slight difference between finding out you're eating offal when you've previously espoused to dislike offal intensely, and finding out that the nugget you are eating is a homogenised waste product that is chemically treated, flavoured and dyed to work around the massive bacterial load. I'm wondering what the profit margin is on those offcuts once you take out the cost of "disguising it's origins so human's will accept it's 'chicken'".

the debate/discussion concerning politics can be boiled down to one simple question:what should we do as a society?

i could go in to much further detail but that would make a comment in to a small novel and i am much more interested in your concluding statements.

you seem to be advocating a theocracy based on biblical principles to establish a religious based government.
the idea of something like that frightens me more than dealing with any single despot or tyrant and history has shown that theocratic rule is anything but righteous,fair or benevolent.

the crusades.
even as recent as ireland in the 70's and 80's.
when the church dominated the politics of europe,before the reformation,there was more :murder,rape,torture,oppression under an iron-fisted authoritarian rule than any despot could even HOPE to match.

freedom of religion is one the best and all encompassing tenants of american society because not only does it give you the RIGHT to worship how you choose but gives your neighbor the RIGHT to either worship under a different doctrine,or not at all.

and i have to say that i dont fully believe your sincerity when you say jesus would not choose sides,because you know full well that christ walked,talked and ministered to the underbelly of his society at the time.he broke bread with pagans,oracles,the diseased and unwanted.he railed with a savagery against the dominance of the church in his time,the aristocracy and the money makers.
he offered a hope and a freedom.a salvation from those who oppressed.
he pointed to the hill of those in power and told the disenfranchised "my father does NOT reside on that hill.you are NOT forsaken.it is THEY who pretend to hold the key that are lost...but YOU can be found.but not through them but rather through me".(paraphrasing of course).
he was the way and the light.

what makes jesus even more intriguing is that,contrary to a common misconception perpetrated by the church (of course).jesus came from an affluent family.
yes..he did.dont argue.
a carpenter now may be seen as common labor but back in jesus's day a carpenter was a craftsman.the ability to build things not only was held in high regard but was usually someone of affluence,wealth and influence.
how humbling is that?
jesus walked away from wealth,power and influence to bring truth to the poor,oppressed and enslaved and started a movement of his own 2000 yrs ago that slowly and totally underground became one of the most powerful messages even to this day.

now of course over the years those who sought power and influence saw the potential of jesus's message and took it over,perverted it and sold it as somehow being divine.
so not only do i think jesus would stand with those at OWS (and all over the world for that matter) i think he would rebuke the church as well.

oh the delicious irony if that ever really happened.it tickles me to no end.

I'm a lefty and I hate Islam as much as any other religion. Probably more. Still, I'm pretty sure 99% or more of Muslims will see these acts as totally immoral, so I don't really see how relativism comes into this at all.
