Top Ten Viral Videos from the Ancient Internet (Pre-YouTube)
Ok, this list didn't marry with my experiences at all (but them I'm older than her, so I guess it wouldn't).

6. Badgers and mushrooms... nope, no idea never watched it
5. Yatta? nope, never seen that
4. While the song, and Eurovision itself are hardly unknown, that video itself... nope never saw it
3. Nope, never saw it
2. Ultimate showdown IS an awesome video/song
1. Homestar runner is fricken awesome, and my wife and I even made a trogdor t-shirt for our first born
So, I knew 3 of the 10 videos. And she doesn't even like the best one of them... this is continuing to remind me why I've stopped watching videos on thatguywiththeglasses.
That and youngens like her talking about the recent past with a nostalgic fog, as if they're the elders remembering a time long past, gets a little grating.
Video Challenge: Nostalgia (Sift Talk Post)
The following makes me nostalgic for times earlier in my life, and times earlier on the sift:

So...I'm confused and I blame the wine so please be patient.
Should the video submitted make us ache for bygone days with the Sift community or just be nostalgic in general??
You can blame me if you want critical_d ... I read the following as a VS community past kind of thing:
"Share a video that makes you ache for bygone days with the community"
Soooo ... I'm confused too @xxovercastxx
May we get a clarification on this please? I need to know if I should pay more dues =oD

Dammit ... I haven't been here long enough to be nostalgic ... which means I must be part of the problem [assuming there is one]. I got here as quickly as I could though. =oD
You Forgot To Hit Pause...
This made me really nostalgic. Not just the pixel art, but the music too.
Playing the SNES in a video game haze to a background of melancholic 90's rock, buoyant punk and grunge apathy; smoking too much; drinking cheap beer and vodka (and whatever else we could get our hands on).
Waking up on an old sofa chair bathed in dimly flashing colours and quiet, looping chip music.
Super Metroid; Prince of Persia; A Link to the Past; Secret of Mana; Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Kart.
Spider-Man and Wolverine comics, and Kerrang! on the floor.
And an otherwise, abject poverty.
Seems like another life now.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria - Cinematic Trailer
The two warships duking it out followed by orcs vs humans made me nostalgic for Warcraft 2.
High-brow music - For the NPR crowd

Two guys in a pizza joint cover Toto's Africa, brilliantly
That's so cool, the first time I watched this it made me nostalgic for the pie>> ^observer144:

I swear to god.. all these years I've thought it's "I catch the waves down in Africa!".
I cringe to think what other songs are butchered in my head.
Funny, I thought it was "I miss the rains down in Africa".
Lets do an informal Google poll based on total search results:
"I catch the waves down in Africa" = 48 hits (sorry)
"I miss the rains down in Africa" = 8970 hits
"I bless the rains down in Africa" = 237000
...
Maybe I'll struggle to come up with some more alternatives:
"I piss in drains down in Africa" = 0 swing and a miss
"I kiss the rains down in Africa" = 68
"I took the train down to Africa" = 2
"I list the brains down in Africa" = 0 strike 2
"master race down in Africa" = 1 - Wow, Google's crawlers are fast, @dahauns
"I miss the plains down in Africa" = 22
"I guess the rains down in Africa" = a surprising 826
"I swing a mace down in Africa" = 0 strike 3, too much Skyrim for me
I may be unique in this (google confirms this), but I always heard Bob Marley's Get Up, Stand Up line "It's not all that glitters is gold" as "It's as hard as pizza that's cold".
Which is its own sort of interesting koan.
-r.
As a kid I always thought he said:
"I guess it rains down in Africa" = 4,470 hits
Perfect that they picked one of the rare rainy days in Utah. That background made me so nostalgic. If any of you are ever in the Salt Lake valley, you can't choose a better pizza place than the Pie.
Carl Sagan - The Humans

I was with the message for the first couple of minutes, but the final minute or so of the dialogue seemed to be suggesting "okay we screwed up with Earth, bugger it, let's find new planets".
Now I'm entirely for space exploration, getting to Mars, building a base on the Moon, baby steps in the grand scheme of exploring the universe, but necessary steps. However I would always put the priority of Earth first, would never abandon its well-being. We humans are nostalgic, and if we don't repair the damage we've done we'll forever be a lost species wandering from planet to planet, looking for places that are never quite the same as the Earth of textbooks (or should I say ebooks?) of old...
I guess what I'm saying is that this video could do with a bit more of a positive attitude towards fixing the problems we've created
What? I've watched this video 5 times and have no idea what you're talking about. I completely agree that space travel is no antidote to sustainability but there's nothing about this that implies we should abandon Earth. It merely states the fairly obvious fact that prosperity is a state of mind; one brought on by collective action rather than stagnation and depression. Exploration is the nature of our species and we could better address the little, petty problems we have here by imagining ourselves elsewhere than by pretending they have some crippling significance.

Happy 6th Birthday VideoSift! (Sift Talk Post)
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
So, six years is it? Hard to believe, really. I don't want to toot my own horn too much - but it feels pretty weird to have been doing anything for more than six years. Minus a couple of days where I have been in the boondocks, I think I've been on VideoSift everyday for those six years. That's about 2,190 days of me on VideoSift. I know some of you have been on close to that much too.
It's hard for me to see the forest for the trees after six years, but here is what I know:
We are due for a refresh however, a new look at how all the components are put together to make our community. Expect some big changes in the coming months. Expect us to update how we deal with our hosts, mobile and other shifting technologies.
Expect us to be here at 10 years, with me feeling nostalgic but talking about the future.
Thank you to all the Sifters who willed VideoSift into existence and continue to breathe life into us.
Sh!t Real New Yorkers Say
My assessment of this is "Real" New Yorkers are generally more racist and nostalgic and...OH I think the word is Worse.
