Giger was a true genius . If you have never seen Necronomicon or Necronomicon II, Google it - the art is awesome and so original! Have a look at the furniture he designed it's totally amazing.
ALIEN is a fantastic movie, although the tech looks a little dated now, but I love ALIENS - such a great movie, one of the few films I never get tired of watching!

Necronomicon, you here it all the time in movies and TV. Probably one of Love Craft's most enduring creations besides Cthulhu.

Despite the name of the teacher, what reference is there to Mr. Lovecraft?

Many. The last names of the students reference some of his tales: Noreen Dunwich (Dunwich Horror) Larissa Insmouth (Shadow Over Insmouth) and Jimmy Pickman (Pickman's Model). The principal's last name is Peters, but my knowledge of Lovecraft is not specific enough to pick up on a common name like that. Anyone? Bueller?
Also his stories are almost always first hand accounts which usually end up revealing the doom and/or madness of the story-teller. Several notable creature names/aliases were spoken during the incantation.
Finally the method of descriptive prose used in this piece is heavily inspired by Lovecraft.


I think there are some Call of Cthulhu references too (it looks like an octopus)...

I just started reading Necronomicon: The Best Weird Tales of H. P. Lovecraft and it is an AWESOME book.

marduk and tiamat are first mentioned in the babylonian text the "necronomicon" (book of icons).

it is a creepy book in a "this is batshit insane" kinda way but the book of solomon was even more creepier.
lovecraft referred to the necronomicon as "the book of the dead" but actually it translates to "book of icons".
;ovecraft,in my opinion,was far ahead of his time and is the only author that used malthsien(sp?)story telling successfully.
