NYC sanitation workers destroy a Ford Explorer

kceaton1 says...

>> ^Payback:

What I really find telling is, the driver of the loader has NO IDEA how to drive it. One of the FIRST things you learn is how to crab-walk it sideways.
Bucket down, front wheels up
twist, move rear wheels forward
bucket up, front wheels down
twist the other way, wheels back
Repeat.

Thank you... Same with the mention of chalks. Same with the mention of using the bucket. Same with the comment that lets people know that THESE are usually the things you call in to pull/winch someone stuck. Same with the realization that everything happening in the video = tax payer money being used (paying both state workers-maybe three-to screw this up; although, that may be a utilities truck "trying to pull him out").

It completely confuses me how they haven't taught basic maneuvering on how to get these things unstuck or get things unstuck--I can almost guarantee that most farmers (whether they've been in the snow or not; at that weight mud might be worse than snow) that use one regularly know what to do.

I also must give @jmd an honorable mention for saying what I was thinking the whole time. If you see something like that get on the phone to the local PD and get out there and get the information (trust me; that driver may be hard up for cash, but that is no excuse to "possibly" cause mayhem with their work/payments for months). Also, the lady across the street is yelling just fine what the hell is his problem? He's basically muttering the whole time until his last sentence (then decides to either go out there and get dressed or goes back to sleep). Maybe that street has great acoustics.

As for the firing bit. Look at the complete negligence shown in this video. To me it shows: no common sense, can't ask for help (as said way up top--I'm sure they'll handle him gingerly for most likely totaling a vehicle--or he could have asked for help), gets a second car involved, HUGE waste of tax-payers money from this one stupid event (I'll wager that this little event will cost anywhere from 10k low -if the SUV frame is pulled to far out of alignment- and 30k high--most likely this is about 16k'ish, overall) and one more if he didn't call the cops himself. If you need the job, do IT RIGHT. You can't EVER use that as an excuse to not do the job given to you; especially so when it concerns near pre-meditated negligence all caught on camera. The fact that they did do the initial, possibly no damage, bumper hit should have been the stopping point. When they decided to keep going and said "fuck it", that is a fire-able offense. On the spot .

Last part that I find funny. That thing is heavy as hell. I'm not too sure what those guys thought they'd accomplish by trying to "pull" it out. Winching it out is at the least what you would do. Instead, what really frees the heavy-machinery is it using that SUV as friction for the tires. All they did was pull it sideways into it.

This made me think TSA employees are acting well-reasoned in bad-conditions...

(Longer than I wanted what I wanted it to be, oh well. BTW, this did go national atleast on CNN and the Weather Channel. ....So many things you can do to get yourself in that situation: salt/sand/gravel mixtures in front & back, shovel, metal/rubber tire wedges, @Payback's comment, @ridesallyridenc comment, @BoneRemake's comment, @Porksandwich's comment, it goes, on, and on, and on, and on.... )

Shep Smith on First Responders "How do they sleep at night?"

I would love to see that video. Please share it with me if you find it. And btw, the fbomb video you shared with me was priceless. I'm beginning to like Shep myself

WOW! I can't believe this was on FOX news!

Shep is a good person. I remember when I started to like him. It was right after he got back from a field reporting for the most recent Hezbollah/Israel conflict. He got back, and the latest story on the headlines was Mel Gibson doing his first Jew bashing thing. As the shot was fading away for a commercial, he muttered as an aide something to this effect. "There is a war on, people are dying, and we are talking about Mel Gibson". It was a striking moment of caring and candor which will forevermore crystallize in my brain that he is a good and decent man. Let me see if I can dig up that clip.
Also, the bits where he drops the fbomb on torture is worth a gander.

You're always sheeple once you're old. We've all been beaten down one too many times. It has to start with the kids.

Nah, I don't mean now that we're ageing. I mean ever since. During my stay at university, germany introduced for the first time a tuition (from the state gouvernments, not the universities. And the income goes go fill the state coffers gaping holes, not to supplement the struggeling universities budgets). Then the university system killed the diploma system and moved to a bachelor/masters system which everyone thought was a bad move - except for lobbyists and politicians (its cheaper and moves students through the educational system faster, imparting less knowledge on the way, but hey...).

In both cases students all around me muttered and complained, but next to noone showed up at the demonstrations. My generation either doesn't get it or doesn't want to fight. Not sure which.

Tucker Carlson Attacks Jon Stewart Over Jim Cramer

Oh, Stewart, Please go after Tucker. Oh please, oh please, oh please.

Stewart already effectively got Tucker fired when Crossfire was canceled almost immediately after Stewart went on the show and destroyed it and Tucker at the same time. Tucker is the TKO'd boxer lying on the floor muttering incoherently about how could have won if his coach had let him go back in.

The Weakerthans "Sun In An Empty Room"

calvados says...

http://lyrics.wikia.com/The_Weakerthans:Sun_In_An_Empty_Room

Now that the furniture's returning to its Goodwill home
With dishes in last week's papers, rumours and elections, crosswords, an unending war
That blacken our fingers, smear their prints on every door pulled shut
Now that the last month's rent is scheming with the damage deposit

Take this moment to decide
If we meant it, if we tried
Or felt around for far too much
From things that accidentally touch

Hands that we nearly hold with pennies for the GST
The shoulders we lean our shoulders into on the subway, mutter an apology
The shins that we kick beneath the table, that reflexive cry
The faces we meet, one awkward beat too long, and terrify

Know that the things we need to say
Have been said already anyway
By parallelograms of light
on walls that we repainted white

Sun in an empty room

Take eight minutes and divide
By ninety million lonely miles
And watch the shadow cross the floor
We don't live here anymore

Filling the Alan Colmes token liberal vacuum at Fox.

His views are not so easily rendered in any one light. I have a fair amount of respect for him though. He went into Israel during the whole Hezbollah thing, and when he came back the "Mel Gibson hates jews" things was the top order of the day. As they transitioned to black, he muttered something to the effect of "Ya, there is a war going on and people are dying, but lets talk about Mel Gibson, that's important". It was so sarcastic that I can't convey it in text

Gou Miyagi - Overground broadcasting skate video

highdileeho says...

we need more sakte vids! this guy rips it with some nice original lines. It's nice to see a skater who hasen't been raised in a park. It reminds me somewhat of these guys in that they have fun, and would skate the same with or without sponsors or a camera:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7zC-m1fz70

as for the other guys comment: who cares about what other people are doing. If you need other people to keep you interested in skating, then stay the fuck out of my way, i'm ripping past. you can mutter whatever you want under your breath as I skate to live and you skate to judge.

Stick it up your ass!

EndAll says...

Some much needed context:

(AP) WASHINGTON — Show me some civility, Republicans cried Friday after a Missouri congressman speaking on the House floor was caught on microphone apparently cussing out a fellow Missourian.

Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, D-Mo., had just finished addressing his Republican colleague Todd Akin Thursday.

Skelton then turned to the side and muttered "stick it up your ass."

The comment was just audible on the C-SPAN tape of the proceedings and was not included in the Congressional Record, the official record of speeches on the House and Senate floor.

Skelton's spokeswoman, Jennifer Kohl, said the comment was not intended to be broadcast and was "said out of frustration in the heat of debate." She said Skelton, a veteran lawmaker known for working well with Republicans, planned to apologize to Akin.

The dispute arose over opposition from Akin and other Republicans to inclusion in a major defense policy bill of a provision extending federal hate crimes law to include violence against gays.

Akin, a member of the Armed Services Committee, had spoken before Skelton, saying the hate crimes measure was "poisonous enough in fact that we refuse to be blackmailed into voting for a piece of social agenda that has no place in this bill."

Skelton, in his on-mike reply, said he wanted "to remind my fellow Missourian" that the Senate had voted for the defense bill, with the hate crimes provision, by a vote of 87-7.

Akin's spokesman, Steve Taylor, said the remark was "shocking and not characteristic of Skelton's behavior." He said Akin, who has a son going to Afghanistan in three weeks and is normally a strong supporter of defense legislation, was "very disappointed in the personal digression."

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Tom Erickson issued a statement that "Skelton needs to apologize, not only to his colleagues in the House, but also to his constituents who shouldn't have to put up with this sort of behavior from their elected representatives."

Both parties have complained recently about the lack of civility in the House, the Democrats after Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., yelled out "you lie" during a speech by President Barack Obama on health care legislation, and Republicans after Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., said on the House floor that the GOP approach to health care reform was telling sick people to "die quickly."

Fox News Reporter Accuses White House Of Breaking The Law

American girl flips the bird, throws drink in dudes face...

thepinky says...

Why has almost everyone come to the conclusion that this woman is a bitch?

If you listen to the very beginning of the video very carefully, you can hear her say, "...[indistinct] a hotdog?" I'm thinking that whatever these guys did to her probably wasn't very nice and involved some sexual harrassment. Did you also notice the other guy's hand on the back of her neck? Her next comment is immature, but then he starts moving toward her AS SHE WALKS AWAY before she even flips him off. And then he makes some unseen gestures at her and mutters something, she says she doesn't care, he calls her a bitch, and then flicks his hand at her face. He deserved everything he got and that woman was just reacting, trying (and failing) to keep her dignity, and defending herself from those pricks.

I can't believe that anyone could think that the leg sweep was justified.

Cop Refuses 911 Call over F-Bomb - Man Almost Dies

LordOderus says...

Well since the officer in this case is so offended by the word "fuck", I'm going to see how many times I can work it into this rant. Please forgive me for any lack of grammar or punctuation this rant may suffer.

ahem...

If my father was lying on the floor having a seizure because he just had FUCKING brain surgery, I think I would be a bit freaked out. If I then called 911 and no one answered, I would be pretty FUCKING stressed out and pissed off the second time I called. I could definitely see myself muttering "What the FUCK?" to myself while waiting for someone to answer the FUCKING phone at 911. When the officer finally does pick up, and decides to chastise the girl instead of doing his FUCKING job and helping her, he crossed the FUCKING line. The fact that this dumb FUCKING cop, then hung up on her for getting confrontational is insane. She is a highly stressful situation, which the cop should assume since she called FUCKING 911! Do you honestly expect her to act rationally? The fact that she got so FUCKING desperate to help her father that she ran to the police station shows that she was in a pretty panicked state. To then arrest her on a FUCKING made up FUCKING charge is FUCKING insane and makes me want to FUCKING stab someone.

I mean...FUCK.

what is that 14? not bad.

Poem of the Week (Art Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

That was really nice Rougy.

I really enjoyed the recent stuff I heard from Oz - http://www.videosift.com/video/Oz-The-Poet-on-Cigarettes

For me I have always held a love for the poetry of T.S. Eliot, the first poem I ever read and was to recite to class was Rhapsody on a Windy Night. I still love it to this day, an extract:

Half-past one,
The street lamp sputtered,
The street lamp muttered,
The street lamp said, "Regard that woman
Who hesitates towards you in the light of the door
Which opens on her like a grin.
You see the border of her dress
Is torn and stained with sand,
And you see the corner of her eye
Twists like a crooked pin."
