Trump Holds Rally Amid Aftermath of Family Separation Policy

newtboy says...

Funny, following the law isn't important when it's environmental law, or international law, charity law, fraud law, tax law, etc.....or when it takes effort to follow American law. That's why he spent money on building and running child jails instead of immigration judges, who could solve the problem 100% by making the application process last under 3 weeks.
Democratic politicians have tried to solve this repeatedly, but obstructionist republicans couldn't let any Obama laws pass and kicked it down the road to where we are now, where democratic bills stand zero chance of consideration, much less a vote.

Trump intentionally caused this with his presidential order to move to zero tolerance and arrest asylum seekers in an effort to force the political issue while Republicans only need to stop Democrats from filibustering, but enough Republicans balked at his monsterousness that he actually needs democrats votes now, something he won't get.

Since it's so often American policy and American drug trade that has made their homes terrible places, we owe those who our actions have displaced an opportunity for asylum.

It's like I come to your home, break in, take your valuables, burn the house down looking for more, then deride you for needing help, deny you shelter, and tell you to get your shit together and stabilize your life while my other gang members pick through the rubble of your home, then we dump you in Reno, your wife in Oklahoma, and your kids.....somewhere, not our problem, you find them.

There isn't some sudden rush of immigrants like Trump and oan/faux claim, the rate is still fairly steady.

Also, contrary to the lies you've repeated, no party advocates open borders. That's as true as saying Republicans are advocating the destruction of families and murder of children. Democrats have tried to fund rational immigration controls and have been stymied, but Republicans just want to lock the door and only let in those with connections and money.....like the Bin Ladens.

To think otherwise is just ignorant of the facts.

Trump is doing the right thing. Following the law. This need to be FIXED this has been kicked down the road for decades. Politicians promise to do something then don't . They enact laws and then don't enforce. Trump is being non political and will try to fix it. Obama, Bush, Clinton all kick the can down the road as did the house and senate. Now 30+ million illegals and thousand every month coming. THIS NEEDS FIXED.

I sorry these people come from terrible places. The solution is not open boarders but to stabilize their countries. THEY need to get their shit together.

To think otherwise is foolish.

Brake Cleaner Fluid Vs Monster Energy Drink

moonsammy says...

Mountain Dew would be the best choice of the three - it's the citric acid in Monster that is doing the job here, and neither Coke or Dr Pepper would have that (while Dew has orange as an ingredient). I would think something like 7-Up or Sprite would also be fine, though I'm not sure how much citrus those actually contain. Lemonade?

So, like, does Doctor Pepper or Coke work too? I don't care for Monster, but I can drink the rest of the Doctor Pepper. Mountain Dew if I have to.

I usually just sort of use whatever is to hand. Butane, rubbing alcohol, gasoline, carb cleaner, but these are all pretty flammable and/or toxic (WD-40 is good for some things, but then *that* is hard to clean off). If Monster works, that sounds good. So, like, does Doctor Pepper or Coke work too? I don't care for Monster, but I can drink the rest of the Doctor Pepper. Mountain Dew if I have to.

I wonder if there is a 1 - 2 punch of brake cleaner, then Monster drink?

moonsammy said:

Had doubts about the veracity of this due to the can being open already at the beginning, but per Snopes it's plausible. Basically brake cleaner is an organic solvent while Monster has a high level of acidity - they can both clean things, but would be useful on completely different types of grime.

Anatomy of a Scene -- A Quiet Place

Using a white board or having a character flat out say the information are both bad storytelling. A better filmmaker would have been able to convey such information organically. At least the saying it flat out approach could have been worked into the movie as an old emergency warning broadcast, or early on in the outbreak when people could conceivably still be ignorant.

Also, I didn't think the weakness to hearing aids was that blatant. It was certainty better than the water vulnerability of the aliens from Signs. It just felt silly that the all the world's militaries with all their armor piercing weapons couldn't do much to these monsters but a wounded mother with a shotgun and her child could.

Sarzy said:

Yeah, the whiteboard wasn't the most elegant way to convey that information, but it's quick and efficient, and it's still better than having one of the characters flat-out say that stuff even though they'd all know it already.

As for the second issue, as greatgooglymoogly mentioned, they're only able to shoot the creature because of the dumb luck of the frequency of the hearing aid weakening it and causing its armour to pop off. Deus ex machina, maybe, but the film spends enough time planting that seed that it doesn't feel too blatant.

The face part opened up, but the "ears" pop open and uncover whenever they're trying to listen closely.

I any case, armored just means they have some resistance to small arms fire, like the bugs in Starship Troopers or xenomorphs in the Aliens universe. Unless the monsters in this movie are covered in adamantium, I find it hard to believe that they can wipe out the world's militaries in such a short time.

Also, they would have to defeat the world's armies first, as securing the food supply would be one of the top priorities of any army. No military is going to sit around waiting to slowly starve to death.

greatgooglymoogly said:

More spoilers:

I think the movie tried to show that they only opened up and became vulnerable when they heard the feedback sound from the hearing aid.

The movie didn't really go on about how they defeated armies, but really they only have to kill the farmers, everyone will eventually starve if they can't grow food.

Since we're in spoiler town, any guess what the creatures were meant to be? They seem too dumb to be Aliens. Maybe subterranean bat monsters from the center of the earth?

Anatomy of a Scene -- A Quiet Place

I didn't really like the movie. Certain parts of it was well done, but there are some glaring issues that ruined my suspension of disbelief.

For example, early in the movie we got a shot of John's character's workshop, and there's this whiteboard with the most basic information about the monsters written on it in large bold letters. Your character has masterfully survived for over a year under constant threat from these monsters, and you have to write down that the creatures are blind? Who is this even for other than the audience? It's such a lazy way of conveying information and disrepectful of your viewer's intelligence.

Also, the ending was pretty ridiculous.

*spoiler warning*

The fact that these monsters are susceptible to small firearms (even if they have ARMOR as the whiteboard reminds us) makes the premise that they overran all the world's militaries in a few months pretty unbelievable.

MiniDOOM - Launch Trailer, play now!

JiggaJonson says...

Idk, kind of not in the spirit of the original game at all.

The whole thing with Doom was it was alarming to turn a corner and have a monster RIGHT THERE in your face. Gameplay was FAST too, which added to the feeling of immersion.

I hear the pew pew pew of this plasma rifle that's firing anything less than 20 rounds a second and weep digital tears.

Response to Trump's Video Game Montage - #GameOn

moonsammy says...

As far as the inclusion of violent games go, I didn't see any here where the object is to kill other humans. There were some where you fight monsters, or corrupted humans (The Last of Us), but I didn't spot any that actually feature / primarily focus on people killing other people. I'll admit to not being familiar with every game featured however.
