the pillows, Asian Kung-fu Generation, Ellegarden, etc. I just saw Ellegarden at Kyouto Taisakusen, it was SO FUCKING GOOD. I'm not sure how to describe it other than I've never been to such an intense concert.

Yeah, I love the acoustic songs! Stare at the Sun acoustic is reallllly tight too. I wish they'd go back to their roots a bit though and stop trying to be artsy with the whole elements theme going on. Nothing good ever comes from being artsy. .____.

Which Japanese bands? I'm more or less slowly turning into a weaboo anyway

Yeah, I love Melting Point of Wax, So Strange I Remember You especially as well as virtually anything on Vheissu. I&II was fairly good, thought they captured water brilliantly, Night Diving especially with the way they conveyed dripping water, and the tranquility of deep sea diving. Fire, eh not so much. Could see they were going for a sense of chaos and distortion but just didn't feel like it came together melodically, Flame Deluge was excellent though. Agree Red Sky EP was excellent, especially their acoustic renditions, particularly Of Dust and Nations, really wish they'd do more of them.

Yeah, I've heard a few of the songs, but haven't really gotten around to checking it out fully, for some reason. Been too busy with new releases from my favorite Japanese bands, I guess. I thought Alchemy Index vols. I and II was pretty solid, with some tight songs, but definitely not quite up to par with the other stuff. Still, "not up to par with the other stuff" still translates to "pretty damn good," so I can't really complain too much in that department.

I wish they had a music video for T&C, A Torch to End All Torches, Melting Point of Wax, or So Strange I Remember you, because it's always hard to find truly good live videos of songs like that. I was very surprised to see them release Red Sky on that EP thing, but totally dug the coupling tracks.

In reply to this comment by RedSky:
Heh, yeah it was a bit of a giveaway before, now it's more subtle

Reminds me, I still gotta sift that song too Pity that they never released their better songs as singles though.

Sample the album on their myspace if you want, it's not anything groundbreaking by all means but still a solid album all around. Not nearly as good as Vheissu but still, have to give them props for branching out and experimenting with different styles.

After Forever - Energize Me

Lola Angst - Am I dead?

Eklek says...

Quite a dark melodic groovy layered track all in all. The text is quite provocative and ambiguous, reflecting a dark Weltanschauung.

Lyrics:

I went one step too far,
Now I'm Dead.
I´m lying in a white room
I think I'm getting mad
Black girls everywhere
Where is the door
Let's go to the dance floor

I'm gonna burn in hell,
Will never hear the angels bell ringing
or some angels singing,
Hear god speaking friendly words to me
there are so many things I will never see
So come on mister lucifer
Let's enter the black paradise
There is nothing to choose
I wanna see all the girls,
Can I choose between leather or lace
And lick a high heeled foot.

Its ok, maybe all I need is hot evil chick
to treat her bad and to fuck with
We would always be together
Burning in that hell forever
And I ´ll never be alone
But it would always be dusty but warm
And I ´ll never be alone
But it would always be dusty but warm

So come on Lucy
I will ever stay evil
Even in your slavery, Yes I will!
Lying, stealing, killing, fucking
If you want even sucking
I've got nothing to lose
So I'm gonna use all my might
To keep on staying like I am
Thank god I'm going to hell
Hell is my paradise

I went one step too far,
Now I'm Dead.
I´m lying in a white room
I think I'm getting mad
Black girls everywhere
Where is the door
Let's go to the dance floor

Opeth - Porcelain Heart

RedSky says...

Yeah, I was a bit underwhelmed by their new album although it might grow on me like Blackwater Park did. I mean I appreciate acoustic and progressive just as much melodic death metal but I always found Opeth at their best when they merged these with unbridled intensity, something incredibly jarringly. New album doesn't really do that for me, still on the whole a great album though.

this is the most awesomely awesome badass game evah. I actually came to the Sift today with the idea to submit a video like this-because I just checked the game out.
so, cheesemo and others, I can provide some advice, because at first I felt like what you described, too:

in general, the best tracks to enjoy are, quite surprisingly, rock. I tried pretty much everything else apart from classics and hip hop (pop, lounge, trance, etc.) and rock really gets you going the most and seems the most melodic and "in tune"; also, I would STRONGLY suggest everybody to use the double-car setup character, because with it one really finds the synchronous feeling of music and game that you're trying to attain. and yes, it also scores more points

nice melodic songs. so um, what's wrong with indoctrinating kids before they know better? the younger they are the more sucess you'll have. I've taken a que from scientology, if my kid blinks while watching her episodes of this I start the dvd over.

while i vowed in a previous comment to quit writing comedy, I didn't say anything about irony!

btw: Did you see that suggestive wink by Stacey in the opening credits? too saucey for me.

Andy McKee - The Friend I Never Met

snoozedoctor says...

Very nice. Sounds heavily influenced by Michael Hedges. Andy ranks up there with the best of them, although I still prefer his tunes with more melodic movement rather than the tapping drone notes. He has some beautiful melodies. Stephen Bennett still gets my vote for the "man" on harp guitar though. If you're not familiar, check him out.

Nice sifts with those Justin King posts. The guy has some massive talent, and he's a great musician all around. He's currently doing music in a very melodic light rock band called Justin King and the Apologies. You should check them out.

Radiohead - Scotch Mist: a film with Radiohead in it (52:31)

legacy0100 says...

They're starting to get their old groove back, but still has that bad psychedelic shit.

They still need to work on the songs. I thought the vocal part lacked melodic variety. I think this is a painful repercussion from the KID A era (repeating words/melody over and over and over and over).

Still way too bland compared to The Bends / OK computer Era. I keep getting bored every time I listen to one of their new songs that's been made after OK computer.

And I can say this because I've been a Radiohead fan since middle school and bought the first 3 albums by saving up mah lunch money.

Beautiful and Professional Hang Drum Solo

Rotty says...

I am more impressed with the melodic beginning and ending parts of this video. As far as costs go, you have to be CRAZY to pay that kind of money for one of these. Worst case, you could travel there and hand select one for the prices I see listed here. Actually, I can't beleive nobody has "reverse-engineered" this and selling them.

Sure, I sifted it ages ago when there was no gay channel.

I had already voted for your video.

Hey Farhad.. any chance you could add that clip to the gay channel? And while I'm at it.. can I shamelessly plug another vid of theirs I just sifted (which I thought was on here already, but can't seem to find)?

Many thanks.

Sigur Rós are an Icelandic post-rock band with melodic, classical and minimalist elements. The name is Icelandic for "victory rose" and is pronounced "see oor roce". The band is known for their ethereal sound and lead singer Jónsi’s falsetto. Some of the band's contemporaries include múm and Amiina; both of which hail from the same creative and vibrant Icelandic post-rock music scene.
