Mark Blyth is my third favorite Scot, right after two brothers who are dear friends of mine. After his famous interview for Athens Live, every video of his released by the Watson Institute has pretty much been a must-watch, particularly his takes on "The Deplorables" and the Front Nationale.
I got his book "Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea" after it was praised heavily over at NakedCapitalism 3-4 years ago -- to me, there is no bigger compliment for an economist than praise by Yves and the commentariat over at NC.
His takes on the mercantilism of Germany are among the best, and by far the clearest. Bill Mitchell had some great pieces on it as well, but Blyth's capacity for facilitating understanding of these concepts is on a different level entirely.
So do I disagree with him on parts of his economic analysis? Yes, but only on the fringes where MMT/functional finance is concerned.
Check out the companion talk to his book:

ok....i come to you for your opinion on my new favorite political scientist.this is the man who predicted brexit and trump, and his ability to depoliticize complex political and economic dynamics is just beautiful.(or maybe i just like the fact that it sounds like i am getting schooled by shrek)
i have watched pretty much every one of his lectures, and i cannot find a flaw in his logic.he appears to have his finger on the pulse of our global economic situation.
but economics has never been my strong suit.i have always struggled with economics.so i come to you,hat in hand, and ask if maybe my adoration is misplaced.
totally worth the time:

President Trump: How & Why...
That path only leads to depression, my friend. If sexism and/or racism is the criteria, Berlusconi was in and out of office for 17 years. Victor Orban is in office right now. Marine Le Pen is a very real possibility next year. That's a lot of Trumpets if I may borrow Mark Blythe's term for it...
It's also a lot of people willing to overlook seemingly disqualifying characteristics. Which cuts to what truly fills me with sadness: just how pathetic of an alternative must the Left, of which I am a part, be providing these days if people prefer the right-wing alternative, no matter how ugly its face might be...
That is true, but I think a similar categorical statement can be made; everyone who voted for Trump was willing to overlook sexism and racism in a presidential candidate. That is very nearly as sad.
Stephen Colbert Is Genuinely Freaked Out About The Brexit
Sometimes I find Google hard.
I've only be able to find one pole that actually discusses the underlying reasons for people voting one way or the other, and it used wide categories. It showed that the biggest leave reason was to regain control over immigration policy, and the second most important was to regain control over law-making powers. Those sound like legitimate concerns to me.
I'm guessing their are more polls out there. Maybe you could point me at the ones you're talking about? I watch the related radx post (I could only find the Mark Blyth interview), but it seemed to support my current understanding of the situation.
I would argue that the UK would still have been better off IN the EU than out of it, but I fully agree that there are valid reasons to question the EU. Read some of @radx's posts... he eloquently outlines some of the fundamental problems with it.
That said, that's not why people voted to leave. Opinion polls show that people overwhelmingly voted to leave based on xenophobia and lies.

Seems like this kind of fits: "You're now something to be policed. You're now something to have your behaviors changed."
