Alpine Descents--Longboarding in Northern California

Longboard Dancing With South Korea’s Skating Sensation

AeroMechanical says...

I didn't know they put rubber wheels on longboards. I'm fairly certain the last time I owned a longboard (long time ago), it had standard polyurethane wheels skateboard wheels. Of course, the whole point then was to just go as dangerously fast down hills as possible, so you'd probably want harder wheels. Everyone I used to longboard with ended up in the emergency room at some point, lots of broken bones. They were all beaten by it in the end. I just decided it was crazy and stopped. Bombing hills in the city was asking to die, and though enjoyable, it just wasn't a practical enough means of pure transportation. I wonder if I still have my boards somewhere...

Almost Darwinned herself on a bicycle...

True, but at 20mph (about what I do in tight situations like that, maybe coasting to 15 for crosswalks), I would have had more time to see her between the cars--and I would have been looking for just that sort of thing. This isn't to say I wouldn't have hit her, because she was probably going too fast to see (my closest calls, have been with kids on longboards, facing away from oncoming traffic, wearing headphones).

Speed limit in most urban areas is 50km/h (30mph). Braking distance at that speed is ~23m(70ft). There's no way he could have stopped.

Even at a more conservative 30km/h (~20mph) braking distance is still 12m(~40ft).

Amazing New Electric Skateboard is Groundbreaking

...or dont be a pussy, buy a conventional longboard and just push it with those leg things attached to your waist. or just walk like spoco suggests. 1 mile is like a 20 min brisk walk and its good cardio. It looks like a cool toy, but I'm not buying this "future of personal transportation" bs, especially since their market basically seems to be people who will already have a longboard/skateboard and might just prefer the exercise.

Not sure why this isn't skillful... this is a skill like downhill skiing. I couldn't stay upright for 2 seconds on a longboard going that fast.

Oh well.. sorry 'bout the region block! I didn't know about that. Will look around but it's pretty obscure.
