Chomsky says pick the lesser of two evils

10128 says...

In simple terms, a republic protects the rights of the minority by instating a constitution that gaurantees them certain protection regardless of the consensus will of the majority. In a true democracy, a majority vote could divy up the belongings of the minority with impunity. Very mob-like.

Republican and Democrat are names of political parties trying to push certain agendas, they have no correlation to the lower case government types. They both have historically shown on-and-off regard for the constitution. FDR confiscated gold, LBJ went to war without congressional declaration. Bush suspended rights of suspected combatants to due process and also failed to declare war (the reason we have that is because it enables total subversion of the whole rights thing. Want to arrest a political dissenter? Why not label them a terrorist?).

Not to mention the hundreds of programs created by both that are not authorized by the constitution as government functions. Although, to some degree, I have to agree that our constitution is poorly worded in many places and has numerous loopholes. For example, it bans "cruel and unusual punishment" without defining it. The 10th amendment is cast aside as a truism from its wording even though it was probably intended to restrict federal powers to those expressly given by the constitution. That was a real barn burner. Document just got way too fancy, many libertarians have made a dream constitution to replace it. Most of them start with "THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHALL NOT..." haha. Try slipping around that wording.

Are you saying that the Healthcare program is not a plus to an economy? Why not look at it in the reverse and look at how liberal spending on infrastructure has allowed Republicans to have tax cuts and live on depreciating infrastructure.

Democrats don't engage in costly wars? What was World War 2 then? What was LBJ with the Vietnam war?

^You're half-right. Truman's first inauguration is represented by only a photo but they follow it up with his second which has video. LBJ was audio with a photo. I've clarified/corrected the description.

LBJ is the one with only a photo, in this video.

I wouldn't include the "so help me god" part. There's nothing in the constitution about putting your hand on a bible, either.

Short memory on the reversing of campaign positions there I think. You don't have to go back far to see back pedaling on politician's campaign promises. To be fair and include both parties, Bush Sr. promised no new taxes with his famous line... right before raising taxes. Same with Clinton. Clinton ran on a platform promising tax breaks right before causing what some called the largest tax increase in history. Although that isn't true, it was still a 180 on policy with a very sizable increase.

Another famous Democrat reverser would be LBJ. Running on a platform to pull out of Vietnam, he ended up sending more troops. The basic point is that campaign promises are garbage. You have to look beyond their words and see actions. How have they voted in the past and what do they really support? I've seen Obama's record and I don't like it. I am hard pressed to find anything I can agree with him on outside of a troop draw down. Some of his more moderate and reasonable sounding positions now are contrary to his political history. I think he has very socialist ideals and is very much in favor of a big government. McCain is also full of shit in his campaign platform. He knows conservatives don't want to vote for him and he has to pander to them for support. His voting history is just as contrary in many cases to the things he pretends to favor.

Republican Hypocrisy Lives! Larry Craig still kicking (Politics Talk Post)

Whoa, simmer down there boiling water. Fiscal irresponsibility and nation-building are Democratic "things", too. Democrats have proven to be interventionists. Have we forgotten about Wilsonian interventionism? Woodrow Wilson believed every man had the right to self-determination and further believed it was America's duty to protect democracy throughout the world. Wilson sent troops to Mexico to proclaim martial law during a revolution. He was quoted saying his efforts were to "teach Latin Americans to elect good men." And, let us not forget his interventionist role in Europe which aided in the Versailles Treaty. We know how that ended for us.

What about Franklin Roosevelt? Hey, tell me which right-wing mouthpiece publication is responsible for this quote: "Franklin Roosevelt relished his nation-building" Fox News? Nope. The New York Times did in regards to his interventionist policies in Haiti. FDR even said "I wrote Haiti's Constitution myself, and if I do say it, it was a pretty good little Constitution."

What about Lyndon Johnson in Vietnam? The Vietnam War has been categorized as LBJ's war. But, our involvement with Vietnam started during the cold war, which started to be realized when Harry S. Truman tried to contain communism in Southeast Asia in the 50s. And, hell, JFK was guilty of increasing financial aid and advisory assistance in South Vietnam. He fully adopted the National Security Action Memorandum 52 which was left over from the Eisenhower Administration that read in regards to South Vietnam: "The U.S. objective and concept of operations stated in the report are approved: to prevent communist domination of South Vietnam; to create in that country a viable and increasingly democratic society, and to initiate, on an accelerated basis, a series of mutually supporting actions of a military, political, economic, psychological and covert character designed to achieve this objective."

Will that do or should I continue?

Clinton wasn't so bad. But if you're older than 8, that means you're not into Bush or Clinton. If you don't like Bush you probably don't like his dad or Reagan. Then maybe Jimmy Carter was the last respectable president? If he's not good enough for you, then you probably don't like Ford, Nixon, or LBJ. Kennedy was a big war hawk like Bush, with the bay of pigs fiasco and other attempts to set up puppet governments in foreign countries. And kennedy escalated the vietnam war. Eisenhower raped Iran and replaced its growing democracy with the Shah because of the red scare. Truman bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So.... Maybe you think FDR was the last respectable president?

I personally think Clinton was OK. At least his hawkish foreign policy worked and didn't get us into any long-term quagmires. He made some mistakes:
1. Failure to veto COPA
2. Failure to veto DoMA
3. Falure to veto DMCA
4. The welfare-to-work bill.

The Cover Up: How It's Done

rougy says...

I have seen a video with a recording between Hoover and LBJ regarding the Kennedy assasination - I'll try to find it. It's pretty clear that the two of them are talking to each other in a kind of code. In essence, LBJ is making the point that certain things must not become known.

Also, we've recently discovered that Hoover had a plan to arrest 12,000 people in 1950 and imprison them on charges of disloyalty.

Who would believe that our government could keep a secret like that for so long?

Evidence of Revision: JFK news footage

MINK says...

from the google description:
This is the mindblowing 5-part video documentary series Evidence of Revision whose purpose is to present the publicly unavailable and even suppressed historical audio, video and film recordings largely unseen by the American and world public relating to the assassination of the Kennedy brothers, the little known classified "Black Ops" actually used to intentionally create the massive war in Viet Nam, the CIA "mind control" programs and their involvement in the RFK assassination and the Jonestown massacre and other important truths of our post-modern time. The U.S. Government's Orwellian "Office of Public Diplomacy" has been in existence in various forms and under various names since World War ONE. The union of American governance and American corporate interests began in Abraham Lincoln's day and the massaging of "public truth" began even before the Roman Empire. The more you know about "real history" versus "official history", the better equipped you are to see behind the lies of our times, even as they are told to you. Evidence of Revision sweeps "official truth" into the dustbin of history as it may be revised even as it is being written. Each part cca 100 min. long, 8 hours all together. A must see for everyone

Part 1: The assassinations of Kennedy and Oswald as never seen before

Part 2: The "Why" of it all referenced to Viet Nam and LBJ

Part 3: LBJ, Hoover and others. What so few know even today.

Part 4: The RFK assassination as never seen before

Part 5: The RFK assassination continued, MK ULTRA and the Jonestown massacre... all related.

This is only $20 for 5 dvd's... if you dig it, you should buy it! http://www.wingtv.net/evidenceofrevision.html

Who wrote this anti-US propaganda film? The same rats whose descendants are trying to sabotage Iraq.

Who really lost Vietnam?

LBJ.

Traitors like W. Kronkite.

The evil communists went on to commit genocide in Southeast Asia to make Hitler proud. That blood is on the hands of the appeasement weasels.
