Seth Meyers Opens 2018 Golden Globes
I actually didn't think this was Seth's best work. I'm a big fan of his "Closer Look" segment, but I don't find him that funny with his one-liners.
Also, genuine question: why did Oprah win the Cecil B. de Mille Award? I mean, she's undoubtedly a successful person, but her filmography is pretty mediocre.
The last few winners were:
Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Jodie Foster, Woody Allen, George Clooney, Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep.
There's no way you could argue that Oprah belongs in that company. (not really sure why Clooney is there either, TBH, also get lost Woody Allen, you creepy old fuck).
But still, upvote for the sentiment if not the execution.

Are those not the two kids from the Old TV show "Family Affair?"

The boy is [Johnny Whitaker] but not the little girl. It is an adolescent Jodi Foster [though it's difficult to tell through the subtitles].

No, Tilda Swinton!>> ^A10anis:
Great to see that Maggie Thatcher's oratory style lives on. Oh, and I think Jodie Foster could play this woman perfectly.

Twitter Rape Victim Punished
Listen, I am not trying to take anything away from this girl or the situation at all, but she was 17 years old, at a party, drinking to black-out drunk levels and got in a bad situation.
Why was she there at all? Where are her parents? They should be just as guilty as anyone.
Rape sucks. My wife was date raped before we met so I am not making light of it. I say this with all due respect for rape victims out there. People hear or read the word rape and picture Jodie Foster in The Accused every time. Legally, rape at the core level means "sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse, which is initiated by one or more persons against another person without that person's consent." -Wikipedia. Here's the issue. If she is black out drunk (which she was), she could have easily offered consent willingly and later not been able to recall consenting in the first place, therefore placing the boys in serious trouble. Them pleading guilty was probably their lawyer's work, pleading guilty ends the case and seals the charges in juvenile record as they were not tried as adults. Now, I am not saying that happened here, but it is possible.
They are assholes for taking advantage of the situation and especially for taking pictures and spreading them around school. I am glad they were found guilty and they absolutely deserve it. We'll never know what their punishment was and I am quite sure it wasn't enough for this girl or her family, nor would any remotely realistic punishment be enough, honestly. The judge tried them, they were found guilty and punished according to the judge's application of the law. Case closed.
Her tweeting their names and violating the court order was stupid, but I am glad they didn't seek to punish her further for it, she's clearly been through enough.
All that being said, these hack-job video "hosts" are just making it worse for everyone, especially this girl whom I sure would rather have it all behind her instead of cramming it down everyone's throat like this morons did.

She reminds me of a young Jodie Foster. She's great.
Anthony Hopkins on Hannibal Lecter
>> ^renatojj:
Wow, if he stayed in character all the time, I bet he'd be chewing on Jodie Foster's ribs before the end of the movie. That's how amazing this actor is.
Yeah, fair enough but I still prefer Brian Cox's take on "Hannibal Lecktor" in Manhunter. Hopkins likens his performance to a children's monster tale and he's right- his lecter has the characteristics of a classic movie monster. Cox on the other hand was chillingly real.
I've always wondered why Brian Cox didn's reprise the role in Silence of the Lambs, he refuses to comment on it.
edit: Okay, he has spoken about it, if anyone's interested this is a very good interview http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1075052/brian_cox_interview_manhunter_hannibal_the_cannibal_adaptation_michael_mann_and_brett_ratner.html

Conservatives Create Violent Atmosphere
>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:
Don't forget Joe Stack, Tim McVeigh, the Unibomber and whoever sent all that anthrax though the mail in 2001.
I think that's the first time I've ever heard anarchism described as conservative.
I suspect that because some of you are heavily invested in your political identity, that you forget the majority of people are not. Just because the target of the attack was a Democrat does not mean that was the reason she was targeted, nor does it mean the attacker was a Republican.
Cenk mentions John Hinckley, the guy who shot Reagan; he's a perfect example. He didn't give a shit that Reagan was a Republican; he had originally been stalking Carter. He wanted to shoot a President because he was convinced it would impress Jodie Foster and that she would love him.
Calls to tone down the violent rhetoric, metaphorical or not, are welcome. However, by making the assumption that this shooting was caused by that rhetoric and tying your entire argument to it, you run the risk of having your argument thrown out if it turns out Loughner just really hates bleached-blondes or sailors' wives.
Guess Who This Is (Sift Talk Post)
My immediate thought was Jodie Foster, then Edward Furlong and I suddenly thought WOW Hepburn?!
Letterman Interviews Kristen Stewart And It Is Painful!
I am pretty sure she was in Panic Room with Jodie Foster and she was pretty good there. I am not sure that you can blame her for a completely empty vacuum of a character from those books/movies.
