No, who is the cause of the injury is not the point at all. You're attempting to rationalize away whatever it is that remains in you that's making you uncomfortable. I was able to predict forward the final result of the fellow's mischief- I saw it coming. And when the blocks fell I got no pleasure from it. I didn't find any humour in it at all. I cringed. Something of the human in me identified with the pain felt by another human being. It's called compassion.

You're suggesting there's a moral factor here in relation to the process of cause and effect. This implies there's an element of justice involved, and that the comedic impulse stems from the justice which is meted out by the laws of nature. I've stated that it's a sense of justice, and a punishment, that's twisted entirely out of proportion with the original action. So this "justice" is delivered by the laws of nature -- by which we are all at one point or another victimized -- and in this there is a certain dramatic element that is almost Shakespearian in form. But -- and this is the point I've made several times with Farhad and his war-porn: those are real people getting hurt and killed.

To lack compassion for them is to see a part of yourself die.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
