Chaplin Dictator Speech

Architect Howard Roark's final speech from The Fountainhead

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I was just as arrogant and intolerant as you when I went through my Ayn Rand phase, but I eventually outgrew it. >> ^peretz:

Atlas Shrugged would make a great movie... Ayn Rand is my favorite philosophical writer. It's pretty much a hard and fast rule that if one doesn't like Ayn Rand that they just aren't smart enough to understand objectivism and they are one of the parasites discussed in Roark's speech.

Mohammed in Southpark

Selektaa says...

This was released on South Park Studios tonight. According to this, Kyle's last speech didn't even mention Muhammad. True or not, I don't know, but that's their story.

A Statement from Matt and Trey
In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it.

Putting aside the speech, I just have to say: I loved the fact that somebody shouted out "Hands out of my pocket!" Sounds like a politically motivated statement, but if you'll remember, that was loosely what was said just before Malcom X got shot at his famous final speech.

The Day The Universe Changed 04 - A Matter of Fact

colinr says...

Fascinating episode. It is almost like he is speaking to 20+ years hence viewers with that final speech about facts becoming fluid and removed from personal experience - did he know what was coming with Bush and Blair's 'dodgy dossier' of made up evidence about Iraq's ability to launch weapons within 45 mins :-D

It also reminds us of just how much of a revolution the Internet has been. The invention of movable type was a major revolution, but presses were still in the hands of those with the resources to produce. Now any monkey with a keyboard can add to the information on the Internet (as I'm proving right now!). Also see the Wikipedia for facts becoming fluid!
