Slavoj Zizek on They Live (The Pervert's Guide to Ideology)

Babymech says...

Counterpoints:

1) The character's name is not John Nada, it's Rowdy Roddy Piper. Nobody who saw that movie thought of the character as 'John Nada'.
2) The fight sequence is 8-9 minutes because it's awesome.
3) You would have be spectacularly self-limiting to come so far as he does in his analysis of ideology and then pretend that any person's goal should be to "escape ideology" and get to "the truth," when in fact the only constructive thing to do is to take responsibility for your ideology, criticizing and defending it, and turning it into something useful.
4) GODDAMN I thought all you Matrix-referencing, sheeple-labeling, sophomoric soporifics died out already, what the hell.

Whose gun is it, anyway?

I like how this was shot. There's some cuts but it's not so quick as to confuse the viewer as to the action happening. I can actually follow what's going on as opposed to say, the Bourne series fight sequences.

ok, the "please don't make the sound effects" part was pretty funny

Actors always make weird noises on set. I don't know why, but anytime they need to press something or move something (anything that doesn't have a physical sound but will have one added in post) they have to play on-set sound designer. My favorite thing they do is faking hit sounds during a fight sequence. They're adorable.

Schoolgirl Fight

For me the best attack out of that whole fight sequence was the first one, where the girl on the right gives her friend a whack with her school bag. That had me laughing harder than all of the ridiculous over the top "martial arts" that came after, though the shadow puppet move at 1:46 comes close.
