Can I piss on you?’: Ed Asner gets the upper hand

volumptuous says...

Lame.

No one has ever claimed that doing one thing will fix the financial situation of the US.

What is your point here? If it doesn't fix everything don't do it?

Bringing the top tax brackets to where they were (OH MY GOD ITS THREE PERCENT MORE!) before Bush cratered the economy, will help two entire shitloads. Taxing capital gains and other tricks as normal income will also help two shitloads more.

The math has already been done fifteen gazillion times and shows the same thing over and fucking over again. Mother of fuck, what is wrong with you people?

lantern53 said:

Do the math. You can tax the rich at $100 and it won't cover all the spending the gov't does. but if you want to send all of your money to the feds because you think they are better at deciding what to do with it, feel free. Let a bureaucrat run your life.

Hundreds of Fast-Food Workers Strike for Living Wage

shagen454 says...

Sounds like you believe what they want you to believe. McDonalds hamburgers are not cheap... For the same $6-7 quarterpounder "meal" that takes them ten seconds to make and costs them pennies to make(since the ingredients are SHIT), I could have made a completely organic feast for many in fifteen minutes, the amount of time it would take me to go to the mcdonalds down the street and back, while also spending gas. Organic food is not cheap either.

They dont have to raise costs, that is a hoax, a lie perpetrated by the business elite, all they need are a few good accountants, a smart business plan of equality and a corporate ethic that does not exude greed and massive wealth consumption (benefits at the expense of many).

A good example of fast food done alright is In N Out. They pay their employees better than most shit fuck corporate chains, they use some organic ingredients and I could get a much better "meal" for a couple of dollars less than McDs.

It is not the liberals who are winning... it is the fat cats. And it looks like that they have won you over with their think tanks and media propaganda just like the vast majority of the populous.

lantern53 said:

Ok, so pay the worker $15 an hour. But you then have to raise the cost of the hamburger to $10. Will people come in to buy a $10 hamburger. Not very many. Margins are thin. Soon, the restaurant closes. All the workers are laid off.
Perhaps the gov't will pay them to sit around...and the liberals have won again, hallejulah!

VideoSift 5.0 Launch! (Sift Talk Post)

Boise_Lib says...

Now that I used it for a while.

1) the eyestrain is killing me.
2) The dropdown list when I would hover over my name on the frontpage was always the first thing I did. I hope that can be brought back. Unsifted videos with the number of votes and comments, and the recent vids too.
3) I miss the list of stats on my profile page. Standing, Ave. Votes per video, and number of Top fifteen videos, Number One videos. They're still there--D'ohh!

Thanks for listening.

VideoSift uses a base 15 number system because I have 15 fingers. It's an interesting idea to move up to 20, but I would want to do it universally - so we would have the "Top 20" videos etc. as well.

damn.

I and my ten little fingers and one VERY BIG FINGER are going to cry in the corner at the thought of your fifteen.

LSD and Magic Mushroom Drugtest. English Subtitles

braschlosan says...

I wasn't sure if you were serious or not, but I'll bite -

Everyone was a slacker at some point. When you were a young child you did very little to help the family. When you did start to have responsibility you didn't understand why at first and only did the things because you were told to.
Its a gradual change into a person who understands that certain things have to be taken care of for, your own sake and, the sake of your family. To think someones life is automatically fucked up because they are a slacker is disgenuine.

Are you implying that between say 13-23 you didn't too stupid irresponsible things that would make others worry about you for your own selfish pleasure? I doubt anyone could deny they were more selfish than not during part of their life.

I am not saying drugs are required to make drastic realizations. If your daily routine has little or no changes you will always think in the same basic pattern and it takes some external event to change this. It could be a new job, a new love, a death etc. Taking certain drugs lets you control when these changes in perception occur rather than being a slave to fate.

No where in my original reply did I say anyone (myself or others) had to depend on drugs to make decisions. I stated two basic ideas - drugs can help you to make changes and that everyone should experience them at least once in their life. I also didn't say that the single time the person did them would create some epic change.

Something happened to you that caused a strong sensitivity to what I said. Maybe it was me telling you what to do, maybe someone you knew used drugs and became a loser, maybe my speech pattern reminds you of someone bad. I can't say what it is but if your strong reaction is genuine then I am sorry to dig up such anger.

Not all drugs are created equally. I would like you to view this chart http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a5/Drug_danger_and_dependence.svg Notice that LSD has a lower dependency than pretty much everything, including nicotine and caffeine.
Secondly the average dosage is between 60 and 180 MICROgrams. Do you understand how small that is? It is essentially impossible for it to be adulterated. You could mix it with drain cleaner and and the amount you are ingesting would not cause damage.
The industry accepted lethal dose is 15,000 micrograms, which would be FIFTEEN PAGES of paper you would have to ingest. I don't think you could fit that all in your mouth

I am not convincing you personally to take it but be aware that a significant scientific breakthroughs in business/technology/science have taken place while the person was on some form of drugs. You should also be aware that most artists (both audio and physical) use drugs to create the inspiration for the works you enjoy.
One time I figured out why fire on the head of a match is the shape that it is and how the flame is constructed. Months later I explained how I perceived it to someone qualified and they said even though I lacked the proper technical terms I had gotten it right. I was very happy about that.

Like I said previously, not all drugs are created equally. LSD does not make you feel anything extra, it only enhances what you are already seeing or feeling. It gives you the ability to super focus on details you overlooked previously or zoom out and take a large amount of data in at once then process it.

I think my reply will be lost on you but hopefully someone else is reading this and will gain something from it. If it means anything to you I have taken acid only twice in the last two years.

>> ^schlub:

Since when is not deciding to being a slacker a revelation? Your life/lives must be pretty fucked up if you depend on hallucinogenics to make your life decisions for you. This notion that drugs expand your mind or make you see things more clearly is complete and utter bullshit.
>> ^braschlosan:
Because of LSD my little brother had the revelation to start doing well in his final year of high school and try to make his parents life easier.
Then while in his first year of college he had the revelation about many parts of life and decided to study hard and play hard too. Now he has fun on the weekends and is getting great grades. The combination of the two has given him infinite self esteem.
During the summer break after his first year of college he had another LSD revelation about taking drugs. Now he rarely takes them (in high school he was a big pothead and E-Tard), when he does take them its planned out ahead of time for a special event. He's not even 20 yet and has a "wise" outlook on just about everything.
I have had similar life altering changes because of LSD that I'd rather not share here,
I agree with Enoch.
>> ^enoch:
for those who may be a tad uptight hallucinagenics should be mandatory.
if only once in your lifetime.

Aaron's Last Wish - A $500 Tip For Pizza

Waitresses never tip the kitchen.

My first job ever was as a busboy/dishwasher at a French restaurant. Waiters and waitresses all tipped the kitchen. Not a lot, but an extra ten, fifteen bucks a night was pretty awesome when I was 15.

I worked as a busboy at a casino buffet for a short time in between jobs (worst job ever btw). I guess because it was a buffet or a casino or both, but the waitresses had to pool tips and share a percentage with the other staff. Waitresses there also made minimum wage like everyone else, unlike at restaurants that pay lower wages to waitresses.

You have to ask yourself, if he's willing to lie about his education, what else is he willing to lie about?
I got about 10-15 minutes in and couldn't listen anymore. I like hearing a well-(in)formed counter-argument but this guy isn't even on a high school level of scientific understanding.

Not only that, but even in the first few MINUTES he already doesn't understand the very NATURE the way the brain interprets data and information. He's spending time talking about this important ability in humans yet leaves out ALL of psychology and neuroscience and what they have to say on the subject. Guess what they have to say? So he goes on and on talking about this WORTHLESS notion of design and doesn't understand that his brain is forcing him to BELIEVE this IS TRUE! All you have to ask him to disarm him is , "Why? Why does it look designed? Why?", then watch him splutter till his brain explodes, you know why, because due to psychology you BELIEVE it does, WITH BIAS--and it goes deeper too (much how you see optical illusions, why do those appear to be optical illusions? I don't know, why does that image appear to be designed?)--he will NEVER be able to answer that question, cause quite frankly he doesn't have the education obviously needed to do so.

His entire speech was over in the first few minutes, let alone ten to fifteen. Doctor my ass, "I" could lecture him into oblivion (as I'm sure a great many other people here could too).

This is why I've watched about three of shiny's video embeds (this being a semi-fourth as I only watched enough to know it was an epic failure). They all come from Christian based scientists that have credentials from said "Universities" or "Colleges" (next to public school, these are actually a step down in your learning experience) and are woefully unexperienced, have literal no knowledge IN THE FIELD they supposedly are talking about; or even worse they do terrible even IN the topics IN their field. This stuff works wonderfully for the religious media, religious politicians, the religious faithful, BUT you never see CERN, ITER, MIT, NASA, The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA's JPL), and the various host of scientific federation teams and organizations working on ALL sorts of projects. They are never together because the other side only presents LARGE quantities BUNK "science" and BUNK or JUNK "scientific" videos. They are rightfully scorned by the media and the true scientific establishment.

You have to understand that the nature of what this man was saying in his video, like what @xxovercastxx said in his post, it's complete garbage. You can't even listen to the first minutes of it because he's already missing the boat. NO ONE except for fellow Christians will come out in support of this man's argument. There will be no "HOLY SHIT, HOW COULD WE NOT HAVE SEEN THIS" moment, because the man is an idiot. While shiny will think it's just bias and bigotry at work on the part of media and "THE WORLD'S SCIENTIFIC MINDS" (that's a lot of people shiny), they'll continue to build us useful things like planes, computers, fusion reactors (2018 for the first one), rockets, satellites, medicines, gene manipulation (already here)--->cures to genetic diseases (around the corner), cars, buildings, bridges, machines, new limbs (2030-40; stem-cell research could go FAR faster depending on how much we help), never dying (this one is tricky; some say 20!, I'd say more around 30-40 years out, BUT who gets it and what happens when we do get it--it could get scary), dams, should I go on i could list ALL night and never stop--scientists have done SO MUCH for us and still do. They are literally are best chance for a better future. People like the man in video are dangerous. They cause distrust and give mis-information about the greatest men and women that live on this Earth (other than those that are TRULY selfless souls, looking out for others always). People like that create a "rot" a disease in society; it's the "depression you feel in the air here in America. I point MY FINGER at them as the cause. They WILL NOT let progress nor happiness win, they are only concerned with what they "think", and what they "think" is not right.

What will these Christian scientists make, invent, or create for humanity, to help? Dams, cars, trains, light-bulbs--no...more videos to show scientists they're wrong... What did you get taught in school?

Society's Contempt For Men And Boys

messenger says...

I noticed the media bias against men about fifteen years ago. It was a time when it was just starting to be inappropriate for any female character to be stupid, and that just left men, so just about every stupid character since then has been a male by default. It's especially clear in commercials where there has to be a smart character and a stupid one, it's always the man who's stupid. I don't think it's anti-male, just what we're left with when audiences respond poorly to negative depictions of female.
