What happens if you reverse sex roles in advertising?

EvilDeathBee says...

I upvoted for the hilarious fake ads, not for the stupid message at the end.

If women responded to men as men responded to women in the same undressed way, they would use more almost naked men in advertising (if they're trying to sell something other than tampons, yoghurt or cleaning supplies to women). But an attractive man in a well tailored suit is eye candy for women like an attractive woman in lingerie is eye candy for men.

EDIT: I don't mean there's no sexism in advertising. Those stupid Axe/Lynx ads are exactly that, but just an attractive half naked lady, I don't think is

Dirty Banned German Sprite Commercial [NSFW]

spoco2 says...

*lies because I fricken HATE these bloody things being labeled as 'banned' ads when they fall into one of the following categories:
* Never was banned
* Never was intended to be aired
* Not actually a real ad

And which does this fall under?

Well.. all three actually, it's a fake ad.

New York Times: Thinking Positively?

Trancecoach says...

Disinformation collaborators The Yes Men are at it again with another great media prank!

This morning, New Yorkers were offered free copies of the New York Times--which happened to be fake. One reader reported, "After taking it, I realized that the date was 7/4/09, and the headline read 'Iraq War Over'. It's full of fake articles, fake ads (even a Dr Zizmor 'Clean up the mess in the Iraq' ad), and a clever twist on the Times' slogan reading 'All the news we hope to print.'"

Here's an image of the real fake Times website and scans of the real fake Times above the fold and below the fold.

More here.

Sexy/Sexist Guiness Ad

spoco2 says...

Oh, and it is a fake ad.

From the youtube poster (DESchatz) himself:

It really isn't real. I shot the ad with no intention of sending it to Guiness because of the content. IT was meant to either make people laugh or get really disgusted. I rather people felt the former because that's why it was made. Just for fun.

and
Oh and it only cost $320 for the ad. My equipment, 300 for the actress, and the rest for food and a six pack of Guiness

Woman streaker scores a goal

spoco2 says...

No upvote for a few reasons:
1) It's a fake ad by a company called The Viral Factory
2) The current embed is a crap quality version of it that's horrible to watch and listen to due to it being a re-encode to strip the intended viral website address from it
3) You go and get another version in lower quality, presumably to have it not point to their website any more, but end up promoting another site that's hijacking the original ad.

I can't believe the shit people will believe though, really... how many people have completely lost the ability to question what they see?

I think you'll find that that is actually the most dangerous thing on the internet: A collection of both real and fake ads.

For instance the Puma one: http://www.adrants.com/2003/03/puma-ads-not-for-the-squeamish.php

Fake

The one that you've posted above even has an address to thecitydesk.net, which when you go and look at their site it's described as "Fictional urbanism. Semi-regular items about a city."

I'm going to call fake on this one too.

Look, back in the day there were many amazing claims made about things that we know now to be blatant lies. The Camel ad for instance is real (they had a
whole campaign around the slogan
)

But this one just rings as being a little too unbelievable... much like the 'is it always illegal to kill a woman' ad on there... what is actually supposed to be advertising if it were a real ad?

Yeah, thats just what we need, FAKE ad-placements.. just great.

And I hate "movie poker", where everbody has all "superhands" all the time. why cant a movie hero win with something like 2 aces over 2 kings or something, its ridiculuos with this "My house is bigger" business, that happens like.. never..its about as silly as Movie Computer experts(tm) that can make high resolution face shots of CCTV cameras filming from across the street.
